happiness comes from belt fed weapons! lol

This is pretty much my favorite photo of me and A&K m249-para. This was taken on Vancouver Island on our trip to play with S.I.R. last fall.

Well might as well add my baby to the pile. Started life a upgraded M249 that I got a few years back. It kicked around for a bit then I got serious about it an started rebuilding it and changing it in to a CDN C9. Here are some Pics and a link the my rebuild project. Thought that I would document everything because when I was rebuilding it I had almost nothing to work with so I thought that I would help the next person that want's to rebuild a TOP M249. Full metal with the only plastic being the handguard and real stell where I can find it and add it on. FYI does anybody have a good source for small thin O-Rings. Need to replace some but can't find any for the life of me and it's giving me a low FPS which is driving me mad.

Where did you find that rear grip attached to the butt stock?

Thats a nice and dirty beast you got there.

jakster January 8th, 2009 21:16

Found it right here on ASC about 2 years ago, luck of the draw. And thx for the comments, she is a beasty with a good rate of fire and a nasty sound when used, there's even a good recoil on her.

since this is SAW thread i figured this was the best place to post a couple mods i made.

with the lack of space for a large type battery on my para i was left with minimal options. taped to the outside of the weapon works but is an outright sin as far as appearance goes, same for battery bags. so i decided to mod my box mag to fit the battery. my classic army shell had a damaged tab where it locks onto the weapon so i opted to use my A&K shell and swap the classic army internals.

*mod will not work on A&K box mags as there is not enough room*

first thing to do is remove your internals from the shell. you will see a fairly large tab that is easily removed with a pair of pliers. depending on your battery size this may or may not need to be removed.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...d/CIMG0968.jpg

next, fit your battery into this void and make sure the assembly slides in smoothly and doesnt "bow out" the sides of the box mag or your ammo will fall into this area.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG09691.jpg

upon reassembly this is what you should come up with.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG09701.jpg

next thing to do is make sure there is safe passage for the weapons wiring harness. you will need to do some more notching of the handguard to keep from slicing your wires.

There you have it! A large type battery inside the box mag. Oh i might as well add this is well...This is to make mag changes faster..

box mag pressure switch mod

i found it very cumbersome and slow to reach under the box mag to push the auto feed button. so i have come up with my own conversion to a remote pressure switch, along with a pictoral how to:

(disclaimer)
remove box mag battery before disassembly. batteries not included. some parts not for use with some sets, field sold seperately. (lol)

remove ammo cover and remove the two small screws holding the feed tube.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08911.jpg

gently squeeze the two halves together and slide them upward. only needs to be high enough to clear the feed tube.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08921.jpg

remove the two screws on the bottom of the box mag that holds the switch assembly.

slide the internals of the box mag out. it will look like this.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08941.jpg

you will notice that the switch assembly is only held in place by this nut.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...g/CIMG0895.jpg

remove the nut and simply snip off the switch.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08961.jpg

i used a tac-lite bladder switch i bought for about $13.00 dollars for this project. simply expose the wire on both the bladder switch and the wires from the box mag switch and attach them accordingly. i opted to hold the wires together by hand and press the switch to make sure i had the right combo. your finished product after soldering and shrink wrapping should look nice and clean.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08971.jpg

here is what it looks like after re-assembly.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../CIMG08981.jpg

I have routed my wiring, including the battery wiring through the top ammo feed trap door. All nice and clean looking.

Nice Mod Six4, I'm thinking of doing the same thing with mine but I have a question. Waht is the biggest differance power, ROF, battery life, etc..between having the normal "AUG" type battery in the forestock vs. the larger battery that you installed in the box mag. Thanks
