ESS NVG Profile venting

I've been looking into a new pair of goggles the past couple weeks. Was debating over Smith Optics and ESS. Recently, been leaning towards ESS NVG Porfile. I've seen many reviews of these goggles but still have a concern regarding the size of ventillation and whether or not it is a hazard in BB prevention.

If users of these goggles (or a Smith Optics OTW) could confirm that BBs can not enter the goggles through the vents would be appreciated.

Here is a photo of the ESS NVG Profile with foam removed :

I don't have much doubt on the lower part of the goggles, but the top seem to gap pretty wide. I'm worried about a ricochet being able to cause damage to my eyes.

Yes, i've been using Profile NVGs for about 5 years now (for work and play) and a bb will not enter the vents with the foam off.

I use ESS turbofan goggles, and have removed the foam on the top - very similar in profile to these. As I usually wear a ball cap, or Kepi, the BB would have to strike me in the forehead pretty hard to bounce through the vents. My guess would be that it would take a lot to get a BB through those openings.

You'll be fine with no foam over the vents, for the most part.

I had one stray end up in my goggles two weeks ago, but that was after being lit full auto, in the side of the head, from around a corner, about 5 feet away (I wasn't happy). It was likely just a fluke that one ended up in my goggle, probably to do with the angle and very close proximity.

BB most likely wormed between the goggle and your face.

Thanks for confirmations. I don't think I ever have, or foresee, taking hits at such an extreme angle as top of the goggles inwards to force their way in. I was concerned that the gaps themselves were already larger than size of BB. Thanks for clearing all this up. I think I've found my pair of goggles.

Keep in mind that the rubber is compressed when it's against your face. Plus do you seriously think this thin, low density foam would do anything to prevent a BB from entering? Hint: it doesn't :P
