TriggerClumsy May 8th, 2006 21:08

TriggerClumsy May 8th, 2006 21:09

I finally had a chance to test side rail with r/s PSO1 scope. It doesn't fit. Rail construction is slightly different from r/s or Guarder rails. So if you want to use r/s optics or RDS than you will have to replace the rail.

Edit, apparently PO scope (civi version of PSO1) fits ICS AK. I just found some pics of the gun with PO scope on it. Doesn't make any sence to me since both scopes are made for the same side rail as far as I know.

Accessories Questions: which one fits ICS AK-74M ?

Since ICS Ak74M is a very new product,I am a little confused about what accessories are actually usable with this gun.I would like to know what works and what doesn't.

1.Cobra Red dot sight.
which version of Kobra sight fits ICS AK-74M?Anyone got a chance to try it?
this one??
EKP-1S-03M
http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/media/x03M_02.JPG
http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru
OR this one??
EKP-8-02
http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/high/G204.jpg
http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru
2.Which bayonet(airsoft ones, real steel bayonets won't be allowed in any game :banghead: ) fits ICS AK-74M?

3.Which Grende Launcher fits ICS AK-74M?
G&P AK GP25 Grenade Launcher
OR
STAR GP-30 40MM Underbarrel Grenade Launcher

Can anyone with experience with these products help to answer my questions?

Thanks!
Update:Both of them should fit.I just got mine Kobra sight a few weeks ago.

freeman May 24th, 2006 15:33

anyone??

Droc May 24th, 2006 18:44

have yet to scrim with mine, but I added a MS120sp so I should be around 400fps. Chronied it and im sub 200fps. word has it, the hopup is 3mm to far forward and needs a washer to seat it against the mechbox properly. Will report back when I get it right.

Ok,I will answer one of my own questions here,so other people could get the correct information.

STAR GP-30 Grenade Launcher will fit ICS AK74M with very little modification.

Just replace the small screw on the front fixing with some longer ones, then you are done.

problem seems to be the air seal. i took apart the mechbox again and check the piston head...not the best quality and it was dried out...same with the cylinder head. I lubed them up and FPS flew right up to 400fps. Still, I ordered a new piston head and nozzel.

Battery?

I’ve been wanting to get the AK-74M for a while and am going to order it as soon as I know exactly what I want to get with it, I was just wondering... Would an 8.4V 3600mA Large Battery work? Or should I go with one that is less powerful?

Thanks

Dallas August 8th, 2006 02:47

Hi i jsut got my ICS AK 74M and the screw holding the grip covering the moter was loose but i didn't notice it. The screw is long gone, so i took one from were the stock is held on because it seemed to be ok with jsut one since the stock snaps in. after i screwed that in it and hook the battery back up and shoot. the thing makes a wired noise and just stops. so i took the motor mount apart and the motor looks ok but there is a tiny plate that falls out and i soon find that the onld screw holding the grip over the moter had been stripped right off and i had screwed the stripped piece right up and this is what i beleive happened since there were scratch marks on the little plate. so then i soon find that i have blown a fuse, i thought my motor was fried can any one explain this to me??

Apparently it's a little smaller and thinner than the real steel one, but with some adjustment on the scope itself it will work. Also, in the review thread on Red Alliance, there is a picture of one with a PK-AS mounted on the stock rail.

I have a theory that ICS may have fixed the rail in the recent batch of guns.

I found an 8.4 3600 nimh fit with a little persuasion, 9.6 large was out of the question though.

Thanks, so I'm guessing that it would be less risky just getting an 8.4V 3300mA instead? Or is the 3600mA still the way to go, exactly how much persuasion are you talking about? :hammer:

Greylocks August 9th, 2006 19:25

If you find an 8.4, 2000mah battery, it will work. Even a 1700mah will work. No need to go overboard.

When you reach that much MAH capacity, sometimes the cells of the battery pack a a bit larger, so they dont fit well inside the stock. 9.6 volts wont fit at all.
He means he had to force his battery in there.

Before you go on a spending spree, go through the age-verification process. And there are two gaming sites in the region you can visit.

Yes.Mine fits very well with a little adjustment.

Droc August 11th, 2006 09:19

i heard it just needs a tiny spacer to fit

Prowler August 11th, 2006 10:27

Got mine a couple of days ago and love it, whats the best lowcap magazine for a good fit into the ics body?

No major gripes so far, just waiting for a good game day to test here in BC but it's been kind of slow recently.

kalashnikov August 11th, 2006 10:54

So does this gun take the STAR 30 roud clips or not?

Myrrlyn August 11th, 2006 11:33

I recieved a coulpe of Star mags from Mac when I bought his....Haven't tries em out yet cause I got a crap load of others. The mag does fit "nicely" into the mag receiver though.

JimmyP056 August 11th, 2006 14:00

Glad I got mine! :-D

mcguyver August 11th, 2006 14:14

When I had that one Myrrlyn, it fit Star, CA, Marui AK-47 lowcaps and CA SLR105A1 highcap. All mags fed well and fit well.

Sure, you may not have the "exact" 74-105 series of mags, but I doubt the guy at the receiving end of your barrage is going to care. But he will care that you don't have any pesky hicap failures like jamming or unwinding as your mags feed flawlessly.

Jesse_Kazzz August 11th, 2006 21:22

yeah i like the review but i am having problems. when I attempt to fire my gun it sounds like gringing scratchy sounds and I tried adjusting the allan wrench adjuster under the handle grip at the bottom of the motor but i cant get it working. How can I get the motor gear lock in to the other gear so that it works again?

mcguyver August 11th, 2006 21:53

You probably have a stripped gear. Recently, I've had 3 ICS guns with stripped sector gear teeth. It could be the problem you have here. One of these was the new AK-74M.

Gears for ICS should be easy to get in the U.S. though.

They are a tight fit but they work.

Jesse_Kazzz August 11th, 2006 22:10

ok, should I get all new gears or just one of the three. If one, which one and what are they called exactly and where can I find them (where do you recommend buying them)?

Myrrlyn August 12th, 2006 01:56

If you know how to take apart a mechbox then take it apart and see what gears you need then order 'em (its not like you can use your AEG anyway right?). If you don't know anything about mechboxes...find a gun dr. or someone experienced and see if they can help/show you.

Jesse_Kazzz August 13th, 2006 14:46

yeah i know how to do most of the stuff in the mechbox, i just hope this is it becuase its like 70 $ at airsoftatlana to buy the gears. The first time it happened I just had to tighten and loosen the motor with an allan wrench until it worked but I think from doing it too much I slowly stripped it like mcgyver said so I guess I'll just order the gears.

When I get the gears though, how do I know how far to tighten the motor so that it works properly withought stripping?

mcguyver August 13th, 2006 23:29

You tighten the motor adjustment screw until the pitch becomes much louder and "screechier" than when you started. Then you back off the screw 1/4 turn. You should do it in semi firing twice per adjustment. When you do adjustment, don't move the screw more than 1/4 turn per trial.

And $70 for ICS gears in the U.S. is robbery. I used to pay $59 Can. for them. Go to Airsoft Elite or Airsplat as both carry ICS (AE is the U.S. distributor). And you can't use anyone else's gears unless you change the bushings as the axle holes are different diameters.

Jesse_Kazzz August 14th, 2006 10:36

ok on airsplat i can buy them seperate and they are all called ics/classic army bevel gear for 9.95 usa each. could you look to make sure that would be right to buy before i do it please?

thanks for the help

Vivisector August 14th, 2006 14:19

Okay, brought it out through its first skirmish today. It got some VERY rough treatment.

1) Way too big for CQB. Banger the flashhider off of several walls. Not a scratch on it.

2) While running hard, I tripped and fell very hard onto the gun. Heard a loud crack. Stood up in horror, only to find nothing wrong with the gun, and a broken stick about 4cm wide which I broke with the gun. Again, not a scratch on the gun.

3) Just one weird quirk: Switched from safe to semi really fast and the trigger wouldn't pull. It was locked into place as if it were still in safe. Flicked it back to safe then to semi, worked fine after that. Only happened one time.

Overall, it's the best stock gun i've ever held. Built like a T-72, amazing performance. Very fast firing rate and the best range i've seen on a stock gun. I think i'm in love :)

Tankdude September 1st, 2006 10:37

This is a nice nice nice gun.

Feels better then any other gun I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few.

All the parts are made with precision and are tight.

I don't like how the hicaps get taken down for cleaning, but you get two so it off sets that.

Nice box. :)

Time to eat my own words...

I bought a POSP 4x24 for my gun, and it doesn't fit. The rail isn't wide enough, even with the tension on the scope's mount being all of the way on. In addition, the ICS rail and the real steel rail's mount holes are in different spots, so they aren't readily interchangable.

HOWEVER, I found that making the mount bigger by simply gluing a small piece of sheet metal in a certain spot on the rail will let the scope fit tightly and comfortably, with no wobble whatsoever.

I'll make a picture post in the AEG solutions forum when my camera is around, detailing the required mod.

Berkut September 13th, 2006 18:46

Myrrlyn September 13th, 2006 19:26

Well its tough to get a perfect gun right the first time. As I see it, the only two compliants I have are the side rail and the butt stock (not solid enough to butt stroke someone).

Stonewall September 16th, 2006 08:11

Excellent review. Very complete. Wow! you know your stuff. I picked up my ICS AK 74 and love it. It's not a sniper rifle, but I'll tell you it did the job when it came to picking off opponents. At Flag Raiders in Kitchener, Ontario there is a wooded perimiter around the field, with buildings beside. I was making hits in areas where I only had, maybe 6 inches to hit my target and was making these types of shots consistently. Unfortunately, I lent it out and the person using it had a fluke fall with the AK 74 taking the weight of a 6'3, 180 lb body. The butt stock absorbed the blow but broke off two plastic stabilizing pieces that left it slightly wobbly. As well the butt plate was damaged. The AK74 still functions just fine, Duct tape keeps me in the game but I would prefer to get a new stock.

I have had a very difficult time finding a replacement stock and have looked extensively for several weeks at manufacturer web sites and sellers web sites. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Said and done I love the ICS AK 74. Finally, whats a good source to talk to about upgrades? Really appreciate reading the evaulation. Thank you for taking the time and effort to post it. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Regards, Stonewall, London, Ontario

Haven't got around to taking pics, but yes. What I did was I glued a small (just under 1"x1/8") piece of sheet metal to the bottom of the rail. The metal was about 1mm thick and was just enough to create a tight fit.

Hey,
I just popped open my AK for a look, and was disappointed that I, too, have the turbo 2000 version.

Can I ask what's the difference between the earlier and later releases? Is it just the motor?

Do I have the other goodies?
eg. Precision cut reinforced motor pinion gear and bevel gear, steel bushings?

Thanks

Tankdude October 8th, 2006 16:53

I stripped it down and am now having problems removing the mechbox. Being very difficult and annoying. It just doesn't want to slide out. The selector switch is holding it there and I don't see how it would come out at all.

On another note. My flash hider looks like a monkey machined it. Uneven passes and the holes don't line up. I compared it to a friends ICS a few weeks ago, he has the first batch while I have the newest and we were noting differences. The rear site was different and my bird cage was fubar.

And I found a way to make the gun fit in a very very small briefcase.

Vivisector October 8th, 2006 22:28

I think the selector comes off like a TM one. Try popping off the cap at the base of it, and their should be a screw. That will let you slide it off.

kuchervano October 14th, 2006 02:06

Had defective gears in the stock gun, guess lemons, and the Star lo-caps are not feeding unless i pull them back to engage the catch in the magazine holding down bb's.
Other than above very happy with the gun!

Myrrlyn October 18th, 2006 11:02

In regards to the selector switch...yes...remove the covering cap on the side and there will be a screw there.

One addition to note is that the stabalizing tabs on the stock break off making the stock wobble a bit. Stock still seems fairly strong but the wobble will loosen the conection screws.

It is also provided in a handsome non-reflective black hammer finish! This model also uses the fully adjustable and extremely popular "V" base which is designed for use on AK rifles with standard military style stocks. It is guaranteed to fit all variants of AK including Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian AK-100 and Saiga, Vepr, MPK/MTK-01 type side rails, and more. NOTE: Heavy duty rings are now available."

ROFL! sorry Vivisector, but I don't suppose you are aware that there is an adjustment system on the siderail of your scope itself for just that purpose? Check the manual that came with your scope, assuming it's a real steel russian scope.

Vivisector November 19th, 2006 10:47

Not that I see. The scope is a 4x24 POSP. The siderail is a solid block of milled metal with only the tension clip for adjustment. Nothing else as far as I can see. My manual came in Russian, but the other manuals i've found online describe nothing what you are talking about.

EDIT: Yeah the method we described to each other in PM is the same one on Tantal's site. Still can't clamp down enough ;)

Pip January 1st, 2007 02:28

Ok, so i am now a proud owner of an ICS AK74M, and all i can say is...woah...the gun feels solid and has an excellent matte finnish that gives it a real "killer" look.

In addition to the two hicaps, i also got my hands on a box of the 30 round STAR AK47 mags. The hi-caps fed reasonably well with only one or two skipped bb's, but with some good winding they managed to keep up. The STAR mags also fed well, but again, a few skipped rounds every now and again, but a small mod would be easy to make these mags sit just that little bit higher.

The gun shot nicely and had good accuracy once the barrel had been cleaned and the hop up set.

My only gripe is that after a few days worth of shooting, i had the trigger jam up on me in semi, so i flicked it to full and away she went. But now she fires in full when the selector switch is in either the full or semi positions. Safe still works. I haven't taken her apart yet, but i was just wondering if any one else had had a similar problem?

Anywhoo, up until this little issue, the gun was absolutely amazing.

*EDIT* ok, so i figured out why she was firing in full auto. i had bought an 8.4 3600 mAh, and it would seem that its just too much for her...she works perfectly fine with my 8.4 2400.

And just as a side note, if anyone has an M14, the 3600 gives her one hell...and i mean ONE HELL of a ROF lol....

Skyone - Scope mount & suggested scope

Skyone. Very nice. Would be greatly appreciated if you could advise where to send away for the AK74 mount. You have been where I was about to go. A good scope also. Happy gaming. Let me know when you are coming up London way. I'd like to see this piece in real time.

Feeling like a babe in the woods. I have also found it difficult to find ICS AK 74 parts. Looked everywhere for the last 4 months (need new stock and butt plate. Sight fell off). Anyone come up with a good source. Thanks.

Regards, Stonewall

pip could u explain how u modded the star mags, im having a problem with them aswell, just wonderin how u fixed the problem..

Pip January 4th, 2007 17:15

I'm working on it now, but there is a link somewhere with pictures. All i'm doing is using some 1mm thick sheet styrene from a hobby shop (the type ppl use for model railroads etc) and cutting a small piece to fit on the underside of the mag catch on each magazine. Glue it in place with something solid and file down the edges to give it a smooth action. Spray it with some black or wtv and away you go...

I'll have a look for the link..

I purchased one of these a few months ago and love it. It was easy to install and gives the AK a totally new look. I've had it on the gun without any problems and can now mount anything to the rifle. I purchased it from the US at AirsoftGI I think. I have some crappy pics here: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=36430

This mod goes well with my load out and the contractor look I was going for.
Not many around and the company was sold out when last anyone checked.

well do all ak style mags fit this gun?? are there any good mid caps for it??

WalterDekter April 24th, 2008 20:28

Dogg, you're gonna have to do more of your own research or the ASC Cranky Old Ladies' Brigade is gonna rip you a new ash-hole.

Start with Google, then *search* this site and only then post a question. If you don't do that there are a lot of people here who will gladly and eagerly make you feel bad about yourself.

LOL
