That is also a very likely candidate, it would take the heat very well.

The white colour definitely makes it look metal. A drill handle would be very hard to fit on, since most of them are rigid metal or plastic shaped to fit the drill. An oil wrench, as mentioned, is certainly possible.
It might even be a steel band, like from a large hose clamp. That would attach easily, though it would scratch the hell out of the gun.
An oil wrench seems most likely ....

Ohhh my mistake I misinterpreted the text as you stating that it was simply a strap of some kind, and you were then posting a picture of said strap. I'm just waking up, excuse me!

I really don't think they'd give a crap about that

I wouldn't think so. But modern re-enactors might!

I have a book, SAS At Close Quarters and it states the MP5 forward grip was a hose clamp and modified pistol grip off a rifle, and chunks of broom handle were mentioned too. This mod was used up til the first Gulf War, where they used mostly the Minimi pistol grip.

I work as a mechanic and I have yet to seen a oil filter wrench taht locks in such a way. they are designed to tighten the grip on the filter as you turn.
