I cut my paintball mask just below the googles and reattached it with some elastic (my wife's hair elastics to be exact). The lower pushes out enough for me to sight down my gun and stays in the stock position the rest of the time. While the lower is pushed a couple centimetres to the side by sighting my teeth are still covered.

I have been shot in the teeth once with a PTW running a gold cylinder....taken a few others off the face, but still no lower face protection. Haven't lost any teeth or chipped any.

The mouth guard idea has crossed my mind from time to time.

During this critical juncture while you are being actively shot at Please demonstrate how you call your HITS while mouth is tightly closed against incoming BB's?

If you play with out tooth protection you knowingly run the risk of Chipping your teeth, $400+ of repair and suffering a root Canal for removal and replacement of your Chompers $2500+

I Hosted a game, wore a Shemagh, and had my tooth shot out. Lucky for the $350 repair bill and my wife let me keep playing. Many players get dragged out after a financial hit like that. Spend the $20. or wait for your dentist to give you the bill.

I made one of the mesh straps a velcro strap so i can realease the mask to talk etc during safety brief and between games and also to drink.

Notice the Velcro on the right cheek on the above photo.

im far too good looking to risk losing teeth. If i was ugly i suppose missing a few teeth wouldnt change much.

ALWAYS protect your teeth. Should be a no-brainer! A 15-20 dollar steel mesh mask will save you hundreds/thousands in the long run!

ive gotten a chipped tooth through a closed mouth before. i guess the bb hit me in a good spot and went between my lips. so its not perfect protection, but it helps.

going to try wearing a mask all this season though.

This is pretty much exactly my setup and it works well.

The one thing a lot of these "should I protect myself fully or not" threads miss is the effect it has on the person who chipped your teeth / hurt your eye / broke your gun / etc.

The older and more financially-independent players amongst us need to take special care when making public recommendations to players who are either younger or less financially able to cover dental bills or less able to weather calamities that might disrupt their lives outside of airsoft. In addition, some of the younger players may have parents who may have a very different view on a chipped tooth than the actual player.

Maybe I play without protecton so I'll eventually have a reason to wear braces. Maybe I'm just too hideous a creature to care? Who knows? I'm not an astroneuroloist.

The bottom line is this:
- if you are worried about it, do something about it.

Things that work:
- tie a shemag around your face (folded up in layers...one layer of cloth won't do much)
- use a PB mask
- use a mesh mask
- use part of a mask
- use a mouth guard

I don't know much else that you can do.

Personal opinion
- getting your teeth shot out is a real risk...won't happen with every hit, won't not happen on a dumb-luck shot
- it does not have to be a hard shot
- keeping your mouth closed doesn't do it...I've had one push through and I ended up swallowing it
- avoid the games that are spray-fest skirmishes without adequate protection...there's just so many shots flying around that the risks go up fast. I don't enjoy those games anyways.

That's BS to some extent. The guy asking is the one asking/concerned...he asked the public for an opinion, he got them. It's up to him to filter through that an apply it to his needs/wants/situation/etc...

If we were to filter advice so as to sure to potentially please his mom...then the advice should be, "Don't play".
