The radio is able to send under one frequency and receive under another. The way we should be programming should only allow us to enter 1 frequency. You know you're in Duplex when you have to program the same frequency twice.

But I think if you put the same frequency, it should still work.

Don't know if you still need the answer to this, but I found the problem:

You need to go into menu, scroll to step, and dial it down to 2.5k in order to have the more fine tune adjustment needed to set these channels.

Thought I'd add this to the resource pool. Goes over manual programming of the UV-5R pretty well and is relatively clear and easy to understand. Also has some other relevant info which might be helpful regarding the radio.
