thats not a bad idea at all; although i'm sure many of us would like to have the donation system back so we can get "special" tags haha.

G'day,

The catch to a percentage fee would be financial involvement in what is at best a quasi-legal selling system. If/when the proverbial shit hits the fan, ASC goes down with everyone who bought/sold here.

Not sure how practical it would be but since ASC is a major buying/selling marketplace a percentage (1-2%) of all sales should be claimed by ASC.

Sales tax? What are you Liberal?

I miss the draws where $20 could win you 1st prize gbb and other cool stuff.

Them's fighting words....lol

I was thinking more along the lines of a finder's fee...

That'd be so hard to inforce though... Sales are done through paypal and EMT... and cash... Doing that will just add another step to the transactions..

I say if they need money, a donation system is the best bet.

Thanks for the support guys. Sometime in the near future I will be changing the hosting relationship here, to reduce costs. I'll have a better idea of what the financial future of ASC is at that point - thanks for bringing up the ideas though, ever since we closed ASCA it's been running on savings, basically, and I should do something about it.

*cough*

I'd toss $20 in for a snazzy Silver Member bar. Not sure if I'd use the space or not though (maybe).

PaCHeKo! July 8th, 2008 21:48

Maybe we should give 20$ each so ASC can buy a container in HK so we can bring a shitload of AEG and GBB :) *dreaming*

ColtFarmer July 9th, 2008 00:20

I also wish to contribute, and would use the webspace to set up games.

Might as well throw in my two cents

Another board i am a member on ran into financial trouble and they turned to adsense. To be perfectly honest it hasn't made much of a difference at all. They did it in a very unobtrusive fashion and it hasn't degraded the quality of the site at all. They used adsense for about a year and then moved on to other forms of revenue. They now get retailers to pay for ad space and again it works very well.
The site

I would be happy to support this website, but before doing so I would like to see tighter under 18 year old features

Drake July 16th, 2008 04:52

I still think AdSense or something similarly unintrusive would generate good revenue given the volume and diversity of the traffic here: this could easily be combined with a user donation system to remove ads for those who still wish to contribute and/or don't want to see ads.

At least with advertising everyone is contributing some form of revenue, in one way or another. No free rides, more fairness for all.

I don't know all the stats from ASC (including operating costs) but I'd hazard an educated guess it could generate $50-100/day in revenue, possibly more (guessing from stats from my own server, hosting pics etc which I posted here).

It could potentially not only pay for hosting and related expenses, but also for some form of compensation for staff and/or occasional draws etc.
