Dont they test Chinese guns before they ship? I believe the AA L85 is a direct clone of the G&G one. So it should accept the upgrades that you'll require over time.

I'm into pistols, and this'll probably be my first "proper" AEG, so can anyone recommend upgrades to boost the FPS?

China's quality control is far worse then Japan. I'm sure most are tested, but that still doesn't mean you won't get a lemon.
Just because some manufactuers say its a 'clone' doesn't mean it is, however mechboxs are usually safe to say so.
Get a tighter spring, and metal bushings if it requires, chances are the stock battery isn't too good either. Most likely it will need to be shimmed and regreased so if you don't know what your doing, send it to someone who does.

The only problem I had with mine was a weak spring and mag release. Get yourself a tighter spring and weld a guard around the mag release and you should be good.

Also plan on binning the battery, it wears out pretty quick.

I wouldn't recommend it for a first gun. I spent ever a month trying to get mine to work reliably, and eventually said fuckit and traded for a nice reliable TM MP5.

As I've stated numerous times in this thread, if you want a project gun to put work into, by all means get an AA L85. Otherwise, spend the money on something more reliable.

Also, before doing any modifacations on it, unless you are really familiar with AEG's have a read of the thread at Arnies.

The best retailer is this website.
However its buy and sell section can only be accessed if you are the age of 18 or over and have completed a process called age verifacation. Please see this link in order to find out how to get verified.

Do you have the link to Arnie's review? Im searching on the site, and I can't find it.

So should I wait another month or so and buy the STAR version?

wgc has STAR guns half the price, is there anything wrong with their products?

Haha Snake, if you order from anywhere but within Canada your gun will get seized, get verified and check our classifieds for L85's.

Please head over to the FAQ section of the forum and have a good long read. In a nutshell, you can't order guns from outside of Canada, which is why they are so expensive here. Note that many retailers WILL ship to canada, the gun will just get seized by CBSA. If a foreign retailer tells you they can ship here no problem, it's bullshit. They can't.

The classified section on this forum is the best (pretty much the only) source of airsoft guns in the country. In order to access it, you must meet in person with a representative from this website and show photo ID proving you are at least 18 years of age. For more information, please see the Age Verifacation thread in the FAQ section.
