But that did happen, makes no sense why, just came to terms accepting that it was a dying battery

A dead battery or a freshly charged one won't have any impact on the velocity of the BB... whatsoever. There must be other factors at play.

the veloicy reducer doesnt look bad, easy to use.

OK, so doctor doctor gimme some help!

What....? No don't do that! You must be joking...

Illusion already told you what spring you should use as well as if you scroll up I linked you to a site.

I was giving him an option that doesn't involve opening up the gearbox since that can be daunting for most people.

I don't want to sound mean and it can be an easy fix and I like duct tape but:

If I knew a guy who did that at Defcon Paintball I would not let him play until he is using a proper spring, a proper spring tends to give you a more predictable range of FPS

yes and they are ineffective on full auto

Gunny_McSmith December 7th, 2008 23:10

A cheaper solution would be to fire a couple of round in full auto so your piston (and also the spring) is pulled back and let it stay there for about 3-4 weeks it should lower the velocity by 10-20fps....

Dexst December 7th, 2008 23:13

well, i can get a spring, but real how tough is it to swap it, im sure i can do it

lemegacool December 7th, 2008 23:15

www.mechbox.com you can do it, it's not that hard. just watch carefully the vids before

cbcsteve December 7th, 2008 23:17

Yup its not hard at all since you are not re-shimming any gears you should be fine

As long as you keep in mind the spring and watch that video you'll be a spring swapper pro

lemegacool December 7th, 2008 23:17

just realized that you have a vesion 6 gearbox in that YouTube - DIY: Thompson M1A1 gearbox assembly guide this is your mechbox!

cbcsteve December 7th, 2008 23:19

You are in luck V6 Gearboxes I found the easiest to swap.

I messed around with V3s and V2s and you usually have to worry about something flying out, but with that V6 its was easy, things may still fly out but I found it easier to hold it down.

Oh and be careful when opening it, last time I opened my V6 gearbox for the first time I found my Tappet plate snapped in half

Hmm I'm surprised Styrak wasn't here to post his usual one liners on question threads, you are getting lazy my friend hahah

lemegacool December 7th, 2008 23:21

WHY does every gearboxes are not conceived like the m249 ones it would be so sweeeeeet! clic clac spring changed...

1. You are very wrong about your battery, the only thing a battery affects is trigger response and ROF.
2. Thompson's are not threaded, so suggesting a velocity reducer is a moot point, besides the fact they suck.
3. Changing the spring is probably the best course of action.

Sorry, not a one-liner.
