If I crank the hop to max I get 465 FPS... My thoughts on this is that the BB gets held in place longer so more pressure builds up behind it... but other than that It's a head-scratcher.

You don't have a gas bolt installed, do you?

Nope, 100% spring.

I've noticed the same as Sha Do has. Depends on the gun, set up and ammo I guess. I was able to get my 360fps w/0.20g BBs MP5 to print a bit bigger than man sized clusters of 0.28g BBs at 200ft using a Guarder clear a couple years ago, and that was with the stock TM inner barrel.

Very nice, Im pretty much around the same area.

380fps w/.20g is doing a little smaller than a man sized target at about 200ft with 0.30g using a guarder clear and a stock TM barrel.

0.9 inch at 40 feet, that was with G&P hop up rubber with Laylax Strike Chamber. Honestly Firefly lacks the consistency in shots

Which Prometheus Hop-Up Rubber Sleeve were you using, hard or soft?

Enjoy trying to field that gun at your local games, 440-450fps with 0.25g BBs is gonna net you around 470fps w/0.20g at the chrony.

I'm not planning on gaming with this gun at all. It's just a crazy project gun of mines. I normally game with my TM SIG 552 which shoots about 355-365 FPS on 0.25g BB's.

So really, which hop-up rubber sleeve should I get for my SG 556-Sniper? I want more accuracy over distance.

Would the Systema Hop-Up Rubber Sleeve be any good?

CDN_Stalker February 16th, 2009 15:26

Why not just try out different brands and types? You've seen enough suggestions above to see what's out there, and also have seen that some rubbers work better in certain guns than others do. Since you are asking us what hop up rubber will work best in your SIG 556 at the fps you want to run it at................... it'd literally take someone who has done the same to the SIG, which is what you are asking for. I've tried a few rubbers out in my M24 at close to 500fps, Guarder Clear and the RH65 both work well for me. But you have an AEG with a totally different hop up unit than other guns......

That's true, I'll go and try the others out and see what works best for me. They don't cost much anyways.

What about the hop-up buffer rubber/h-hop? Would that make a difference in gaining more accuracy?

No idea what that is, but the SIG I've found to be one of the most accurate guns I've played with (in the basement of course, I test fired one after installing a tightbore and 360fps spring, etc.). So don't expect the hop up rubber to make it any more than what you have already. Just try out a Clear, any others you feel like, then get back to us. Besides, it's an airsoft gun, don't expect amazing accuracy past 150ft, you'd typically be able to hit a person that distance, but don't expect 8 out of 10 shots on a pie tin though. All airsoft guns share the smae problems at longer distances, just because we are sending a light BB with a back spin on it through a really variable medium known as air.

The buffer rubber/h-hop/fishbone is the rubber piece that gets pushed down on to the rubber sleeve.

I know that I will never get pin-point accuracy out of an airsoft gun, I just want to be abe to get small groupings from abot 150 feet away.

But I'll get back to this thread after trying out other hop-up rubber sleeves and post up my results.

I've tried several different hopup rubbers, and of all of them, the Guarder clear one has given me by far the best range and accuracy. My MP5 had decent range - average for such a short gun. Installed one of the Guarder clear, and I couldn't believe the range I was getting. Test fired it at Border Wars 2 last year, and the guys who saw it couldn't believe I was consistently able to accurately tag a target about 150 feet away. As for range, I don't know.. The BB would just continue travelling in a straight line and out of sight...

And of all the ones I've tried, Systema have been consistently the worse. I got better performance out of a stock JG rubber and bucking than out of Systema. Haven't tried the Prometheus or Firefly yet to compare. I jsut stocked up on a bunch of Guarder because I know they work.

You're like the fourth guy saying that the Guarder clears are awesome buckings. That must really say something about it. I'm deffinately going to try one out.

Were you using a stock buffer rubber?

Crunchmeister February 16th, 2009 17:28

I used the Guarder ones that came with it. Haven't tried with alternate ones.

Now high velocities will wear out the soft rubbers a lot faster, but IMO, they're so cheap and easy to replace it's not worth it. I grabbed 8 of them so I would have spares. Worth every penny IMHO.

Prometheus soft, it will raise ur FPS by a bit as well
