Here's a series of pics I just did to illustrate the slight size difference. The pouch shown is a Tactical Tailor 3 AR mag pouch.

Three AR mags vs. 2 clipped G36 mags. you can see when I stacked them end to end, the G36 mags are just a little wider then three AR mags. That stabilizer lip near the top is a pain as well when getting mags in and out of tight pouches.

sorry for the necro. But i was just wondering if you find it worth it to keep the clips on your G36 mags because they make it such a hassle to get in and out of pockets.

you could always use the Pmags with the adapter, that should look sexy and still fit in M4 pouches.

I have Sig 552 which has the same plastic clips as the G36. My advice is to get rid of them. From my expirience, having the mags clipped together just makes the gun more bulky. Not to mention that the clips dont do the best job of holding the mags together. One of the biggest problems I find though is that the clips get caught on the lip of the mag pouch and anything else that may be in its path. To remove the clips unscrew the little circilar end and take the c shaped clips off with a sharp chisel and hammer. Its the cleanest way to do it and doesnt leave any scratch marks on the rest of the mag unlike a hack saw.

M4 mags are much better in terms of comfort and accessbility .... I had huge mags for my G3SG1 and i can barely put 1 mag into 1 pouch..... I tried M4 mags and i can put 2 of them. But if you have big pouches and plenty of it and you don't care about whether you fit more or less mags... then go for G36's ....

Those King Arms 95 Round Mags fit Wicked awesome in the SRC's G36's.

They fit in tight, And don't have much wiggle. If you place it in the gun with about 6mm-8mm left to push in, And just slap it in with your hand, they work beautiful!

Due to the cost of re-equipping another gun with mags that are awkward and hard to carry, I'm seriously considering the magwell option for my G36 too. While the G36 mags look a LOT nicer (particularly with fake bullets), the convenience of having ample STANAG mags and being able to easily carry lots of them in my vests wins out. And to me, functionality trumps cosmetics any day.

and if you run an AR backup, using the same load out makes primary failures much easier to cope with.

I have 4 ARs. So yeah, it's definitely more convenient to have that than G36 mags. I can only fit 1 G36 mag per double AR pouch. And the clips on it make it hard to insert and remove them.
