Cyma AK105 aeg's are quite affordable and a skirmishable out of the box.

It's more attractive than a Kraken as it has a (cheap) metal receiver.

Accessory friendly and upgradable too.

Of course you will have to be AV'd before you can get one via ASC.

Im 17 too and I understand the money problem. But the way I see it, as well as many other see it, that you get what you pay for. I invested a significant amount of money to play and I've only seen the tip of the iceberg. So my 2 cents would be seriously consider what you're going to buy before you make a decision.

now I'm not usually one to recommend this ... as I've been going down the cheap road, upgrading and trading/selling moving my way up... my fellow players/teammates beleive I have Gun A.D.D. LOL

this being said I'm a tinkerer ... I upgrade and mess with .. so getting a cheaper clone doesn't bother me cause I'm gonna be playing with it anyways.


one of my friends/teammates bought one of the crossman pulse AK47's to get started... that was over a year ago... he's bought and sold 3 or 4 other guns and keeps going back to the poor little AK... he's been beating the crap outta it the whole time. I realize that the crossman pulse AK's are hit and miss for quality.... but if your gonna be deployed in September, and be able to save up over that time ... a crossman pulse or a kracken and a can of spray paint will probably be your best option.


or.... talk with the local guys in your area and see if they will lend/rent you something till you are deployed. see if there is a team that wants you (or you want to join) .. if they have certain requirements .. it might restrist your options further, and possibly make any purchase you make now a waste :)

I'd say get a CYMA AK. They've got a cheap metal body instead of a plastic see through one. Plus they run around $200 new on classifieds. Maybe you'll find one for a similar price.

I have decided on getting myself a G&G AK47, after my next paycheck and when I get back home I will be picking it up. One of the reasons that I decided upon it is that I have options to upgrade it as I go along, and its a gun worth upgrading. I am looking at getting a RPK mod kit later along, and this is a good gun to put it on.

Good choice as the AK model uses a version 3 mech-box, known to be more sturdy. Also resale value plays a part in a hobby where turning a 'new leaf' is rather exciting and fun!

One possibility is to wait a bit, get Age verified and then go through the classifieds regularly. Most guys there are open to negotiation (not low-balling mind you) and you can come away with a pretty decent deal. To boot, some of them are being sold with magazines and you can save some money there as well.

Also, hold off buying tac gear for a little while until you've cemented what you want to do and seen and explored your options.

In the mean time, consider hitting the gym, running a bit (unless you're already doing so) and it'll make probably make the first game a little more enjoyable.

Besides from owning the obvious (the gun), there's quite alot more to consider, really.

Safety equipment cost $$$, so does a pair of good boots.

At the moment to keep the cost low, you can go in as PMCs, but safety aspect shall not be ignored.

Just curious, have you been in a game before? If you have friends who's in airsofting, maybe you could ask them to loan you one just for you to try it out?

There would be two outcome from this.

1. You found out that it's not for you (very unlikely)

2. You love it more than ur GF (highly possible as they don't talk back).

You'd be surprise how one's newly gained enthusiasm can help you find more money. You'd even willing to work 2 jobs and eat bread for a month just to get the item you want.

Yeah, I'm on a long term bread diet. LOL

Don't forget boots are going to cost you at least $100, goggles a good $50 at least.. you'll probably want a set of BDU's as well.

I am actually pretty lucky to already be an active hiker, means I have good boots already and I'm in pretty good shape too. The BDU's will come as time goes by but I am sure I could make do with what I have already for a while. I got OD pants and Woodland pants, a CADPAT hoodie, should work alright to start with. The team I plan on playing with is getting everyone to wear OD only so that should be cheaper then some of the other camos out there.

A decent set of OD (top and bottom) can be had for as little as $30-$50 bucks. BDU are not a vital part of it, those are secondary. Hiking boots are great so you have that base covered, so it sounds like your startup costs will be on the lowside, gear wise.

I will also echo the advice of waiting to get yer gun till yer AV'ed. I don't know how many times we had that fall on deaf ears only to have the person come back a month or two later displaying remorse for not heeding that advice. At the end of the day it is your decision, we're not gonna make it for you.

How i wish i got AV'ed before i bought a cansoft gun. Im just starting out in the sport and spent just over 500 including the gun, mask, vest, bdu. mags are on the way. Tac10 had tons of really cheap stuff, saved a lot of money there. Its definitely not a cheap sport. Although I think I have spent the minimum for the sport, maybe a bit more.

Yep should have assumed that you were an active hiker. Seymour Demonstration park is practically right in your backyard isn't it? Not only that there's also the Baden Powell that's nearby as well and some other North Shore trails as well. I go and do the Grouse Grind during the summer a lot actually.

Anyways.... back on topic. Gear wise DSTactical (Daves Surplus) and Gorilla Surplus are the places I have gone to to get BDU's. I got my OD from Gorillas for some stupidly low price $35 I think (I got trousers and tunic, no hat but it was something like $7 for the hat) and Flecktarn from Daves for ~$50 (trousers, tunic, and hat/patrol cap/wedge thing).

For a vest a $50 clone is probably good enough. I got mine for like $80-90 and although I wouldn't take it to a real war it's fine for airsoft and light use.

I'm sure you know about Op-For and BCAC and when you're 18 you can get one of their admins to AV you (Kampfer, Optix, and Crash can all do it IIRC).

Coming from a highschool student, Airsoft is expensive. I'd say 1000$ is good to start out, with a decent AEG, gear and the necessities.

I'm 16, and i play here in B.C with Op-for, and i'd say im almost 2000$ in, so a part time job would help alot if you dont already have one.
