But if you're running through the woods or something it's good to blend then looking like a running snowball through the forest..

The less black you have, the better.
Black is supposed to mimic shadows in a patern. During winter, there are less shadows. And every black spot is suspicious to the eye.

So for winter, white and grey or tan is better in a patern.
