Shugart and Gordon voulenteerd to go down and try to secure the site until the ground convoy arrived. The two probably thought they convoy (Strukers Column went back out for Durant IIRC) would arrive soon, and they would be able to hold off the mob by select targeting...

From www.snipercentral.com:

The M25/XM25 is a joint venture sniper rifle, built for both the US Army Special Forces and the US Navy SEALs. It was orginally developed by the 10th SFG base at Ft. Devens in response to a requirement for a match grade M14 for Special Forces sniper teams. USSOCCOM was dubbing the rifle the "Light Sniper Rifle", and its also known as the "Sniper Security System" and "Product Improved M21".
The M25 is similar to the M21 in many regards, its a National Match M14 glass bedded in a McMillan fiberglass stock, uses a special gas piston, a National Match spring guide and a BPT (Brookfield Precision Tool) Advanced Scope Mounting System. Most rifles use the B&L 10x Tactical scope. Some of the Army rifles use some of the Leupold Ultra MK4 series of scopes. (Both the M3 and M1), and the Navy rifles have been seen with Leupolds also (MK4s and VariX-III LR M3s). Ops Inc suppressors have also been used on some of the rifles.

Not to mention the possibility of any of hundreds of third-party mods, Fulton Armory, etc.

Notice who supplied the pic of the two snipers to the Medal of Honor page I posted above? Lee Van Arsdale. Another 'Delta guy' (no, really) who was there 'that day', and was also the consultant to the movie. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1388339/?...g__;fc=1;ft=20

OK. Ive seen this movie several times and its one of my favourites but i could be wrong... I believe the gun Shugart was using is an m14 with some type of scope on it. I got some screens from the movie ill let everyone decide:

Looks like a aimpoint model to me.

From earlier in the thread...

edit: I just noticed something else, in those pics the rifle has a selector switch, which is apparently absent on the m21/25 (or is it still there but not functional?) -so at least in the movie we can say that he's carrying an m14 with the scope/mount I mentioned above.

its an M14, the recoil is quite heavy on that rifle because of the 308. cal
I think the M14 is one of the best rifles of all time along with the FN Fal

Holy Necropost batman.

M21/25s also contain match grade barrels. Shughart's rifle in BHD had an Aimpoint sight, but in real life Shuhart did not use an Aimpoint, because they werent invented yet.

Goldman August 17th, 2006 16:31

Handicapper, you are incorrect, the Aimpoint Comp came to be in early '93.

http://www.aimpoint.com/o.o.i.s?id=4...&product_id=78

Launched 1993

Since the pistol shooting and above all, the Practical shooting (IPSC) increased during 1993, a smaller and lighter sight intended for handguns, Aimpoint Comp, was developed.

in that one scene if you watch closely that M14 becomes a M16 I think it was an editing error

R.A.T.M._JLD August 18th, 2006 17:54

No he was using one of the crew of the down Hawk guns. But if you watch just be for the Delta sniper (not sure if it was Gordon or Shughart that went donw first) gives Mike Durant the M4 he is alread holding the M4 on his lap.

nightcloud August 18th, 2006 17:59

lol not that scene there is a scene where the guy with the M14 is shooting at the enemy and the scene changes and he's still shooting but this time he has an M16
