good. Now you can paint it OD as it should be :D

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 21:11

jim, yer nuts. no OD for me bro, EVER!!! i like the black, polished, titanium, etc, but no green!!! lol.

nooblord, which part are you speaking of? i am new to the 1911 chassis, and not sure what part you are talking about. if you have a diagram, that would be even better. thanks in advance.

when you take the slide off, looking from the back, its the crome lever poking out of the frame on the right side, if you prod it and its relatively stable, it's good, if you can pull it out like a quarter inch and tilt it sideways, its busted, i had a pic somewhere, Ill look for it

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 21:39

ok, when i took the slide off it looked like this.......

this is weird, cause i was expecting it to be up, but it is really tight in its little slot. now, i can pull it up, and in doing so it looks like this.......

so, the fact that this is sticking in the down position concerns me. could that cause issues where the hammer hangs up the slide from moving forward, the "fully automatic" firing it does from time to time etc?

this gun is still a donor that was purchased simply for some random parts to use on the build of the TM 3.8, but it is helping me understand the whole 1911 chassis so when the time comes to build the GOOD one, i will be prepared, and will know the gun inside and out.

Check the leaf spring. It is a really finicky piece, and if its bent the wrong way it can cause a plethora of problems. The farthest right prong is responsible for bringing that pin back up.

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 22:11

i have checked that dam leaf spring like 15 times to no avail. also, when the slide tries to come back to battery, the hammer keeps it from doing so. it is really driving me nuts. watch the videos above, this thing is a mess.

thank GOD i dont NEED it to fire right. but again, this is a learning device/donor gun.

Thenooblord February 11th, 2010 22:13

All I can say is open er up and dive in

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 22:17

see, thats the problem, i have opened the gun up completely, 4 times so far. EVERY part, every screw, everything. fully, 100% disassembled, cleaned, polished, lubed, and put back together. i have carefully inspected EVERY part for signs of wear, or cracks, etc. and i am getting no where.

soon, this thing will be in pieces for good, but i wanted to fix her before i get the REAL PROJECT, so i can be a pro at it when i need to be.

Slono February 11th, 2010 22:24

Is the hammer getting caught under the blowback unit preventing it to return to battery?

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 22:29

Yes, it totally is. I even tried to file both the BBU and the hammer itself down a bit, and it still hangs up just like you said.

Slono February 11th, 2010 22:33

Is the sear disconnector bouncy when you push it down?

EDIT: Sorry you mentioned it was SUPER tight. If you take out the leaf spring does it slide up and down easily or is it stuck there?

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 22:38

When looking down the frame, is the right or left silver tab the sear disconnector? I have a picture above showing what it looks like

Slono February 11th, 2010 22:40

The right one, the one you seem to be having problems with (I think).

MikeMcNair February 11th, 2010 23:04

i am indeed having issues with the right one, it is as if it is stuck, or there is no spring on it pushing it up. i will take her apart yet again in the morning to see what is going on there.

Slono February 11th, 2010 23:06

Alright. Just know that if you take the leaf spring out, and the disconnector can freely move up and down then its highly possible that the leaf spring is bent in some way or form that's making your gun malfunction.
