I've worn the Bates Goretex in all weather, all year round, and was never let down; they aren't as light weight as some other boots I still find them more comfortable than anything else I've worn, including some hiking shoes (Marrell Moab Goretex, Columbia Tigertooth), especially if I'm wearing them a long time/walking a lot.

I went thru a lot of correspondence to get one of the Corps members on base to pick me up the non-civilian EAG stamped USMC 550's from Belleville - they are basically similar to the temparate 790s; no drainholes, Goretex, etc - sweet sweet boot. The same 'correspondence' sent me the issue BATES as well - I ended up selling them right after trying them on for the first time.

Mind you this was way back when MarPat was new like Multicam and the issue stuff was not easy to get. Thing might have improved since then.

I have Danner Acadias. They took TWO SEASONS to fully break in. This year, they fit like a glove, but originally, after every game, it felt like the major bones in my feet had separated right down the middle. But now that they're broken in, they're excellent, comfortable boots that always keep my feet completely dry.

Good lord - TWO seasons? You could develop a permanent limp in that amount of time.

I expect the boot is made for longevity and not high comfort but low wear tolerance as are a majority of the issue and tactical desert boots are. I don't think there is any merchandising value placed in wearing boots that last 5+ years. (I.e. - Converse Tactical Boots)

5.11 XPRT Tactical Boot 8" Boot

Extremely happy with these boots, very comfortable, light, breathable and quite water resistant.

Converse Desert Tactical boots...I love em'!
Super light weight and require almost no break in, my feet have never been so COMFY!
The side-zip is a nice feature too...easy on & off!

I was there when Kevorkian bought these [I think? May have been another pair] and at the same time I bought Original Swat Classic 9". Kev's comments on the Converse are exactly what I would say about my Swats... only I'd say get the brown instead of the black. I got the black ones, and if you stand in the sun a lot they get HOT.
