m24

Handicapper August 18th, 2006 19:16

Are you shitting me? The M24 is a bolt-action sniper rifle made by HS-Precision and used by the United States Army.

Dracheous August 18th, 2006 20:27

somebody slap him... oh god somebody slap him!

How dare you insult the sexiness of the M24 with that of the M14! :P... well then again both guns are pretty sweet. Hmm still... SLAP HIM!... no wait!...

Someone beat him over the head with an M24 and someone get him with an M14

Thats because they were using the ammo and rifles that where inside the helicopter.

Read. Learn. :salute:

I think the M14 is one of the best rifles of all time along with the FN Fal

Recoil is heavy on a M14? HARDLY!

The question i have always had is why did they not use the mini guns mounted on the choper to mow down the swarm or somolians? I know you cannot detatch them easly but why could they have not used them and saved their rifles and ammo.

Prowler August 19th, 2006 07:26

those are very mechanically and electricaly dependant on the helicopters systems. I imagine 1/10 of those systems failed in the crash. That or they may have been out of ammo long before they were ordered to return to base. Only way to know is to ask Durrant himself.

Blastyman August 19th, 2006 11:29

Yeah miniguns need power from the chopper to work. A crashed chopper there isn't much chance of that. I am sure if it could of been done it would of, nobody would sit by and use a rifle if you had a functional minigun.

Dracheous August 19th, 2006 13:06

also not to mention that the chain-gun would be pointed skyward a bit too much since the crafts were laying on their sides if I recall correctly.

Also rules against spraying down civilians. They have to shoot only at those shooting at them and such. Mow down the crowd and all of a sudden your on trial for a war crime while trying to save your ass form being diced up and/or dragged behind a truck.

the seccond choper was right up. and personally if i were being swarmed by hundreds of pissed off armed militiamen and there were a few civilians mixed in i would not hesitate to do what ever i had to do to defend myself.

Handicapper August 19th, 2006 13:44

In that scenario, I would have no sympathy for any of those civilians.

Hardly. If you read the real account (and it's also hinted at in the movie, although not shown outright), the Littlebirds (AH-6/MH-6) were armed with miniguns and made constant strafing runs on the crowds throughout the day. The real story explains how they would do a strafing run, empty their rounds, return to base for rearming, and fly back, over and over.

I'm not sure the mob surrounding the crash sites could be considered entirely civilian, either; they were armed, and they were aggressive.

As stated above, the minigun is entirely electric and most likely there was no power in the aircraft - otherwise a single burst to display that the minigun was up and operational would have probably sufficed to keep the crowd at bay indefinitely, since no one/group would want to venture into that kind of firepower.

Prowler August 21st, 2006 05:25

I also have to mention that Super 64 crashed onto a load of small tin roofed houses so the miniguns might have been damaged or their view obscured from the impact. Super 61 was disabled from its crash, due to it flipping upside down and landing on its side hard.

I find it disturbing that somolia has yet to recover from it's political leadership crumbling in the years prior to this event. In fact it's getting alot worse recently.
