Hey I am THAT guy.

I always say your first gun should be your favourite gun (or one of them if they don't make it).

If you really want a sniper rifle, then get one. If you like it, perfect, if you don't, don't complain about it.

My prefered kit is that of a sniper but I can tell you, without a doubt, it's not for everyone. I can go whole games without even firing a shot but still having fun. Some games I spent the whole time crawling to get into a great spot only to have the game end but was pleased with the fact that I was able to get as far as I did without being killed. If that sounds like fun for you then by all means become a sniper.

However, you need to take the local sniper certification course first or you won't even get to play (and yes all of the fields in the Lower Mainland of BC require the course).

Off Topic: Am I the only one flustered by his lack of punctuation and capital letters?

On Topic: Honestly, you can get a pretty decent "plastic" AEG that will hold up if you look long enough. At that point weight will be considerably lighter than a sniper rifle.

I am sure its been said already and truth be told I skipped well over half of this thread, but every new player on here wants to be sniper. Most spend the money and regret within the first hour of the first game. Its not all its cracked up to be. A "stock" airsoft sniper rifle is worthless compared to an upgraded AEG. I can almost promise you that any upgraded AEG will out range any stock sniper rifle.

My eyes were burning but was worried I'd incur the wrath of the newbie tank.
Such an abomination. Painful to read aloud.

Off topics: Yes, his writing made my eyes bleed.

On topic: Invest in a sling if the gun is too heavy. My first game I carried a gun for the whole night and could barely raise my arms to drive home at the end (although lack of sleep might have been a factor there). It's much easier to support the weight on your shoulders than in your hands.

The weight from your rig will probably be more than your gun. If you want to be a sniper, and I use the term loosely, you might want to consider the added weight of a ghillie suit and the conditions while wearing one.

Edit: Why would you want such a large pistol if weight is an issue? Surely a smaller one would be lighter and better suited to your needs.

dont get WE, leaky pistol mags they dont work as well as a TM or a KSC, 7 inches is just kinda stupid IMO unless ur playing IPSC, and if ur playing as a "sniper" role than a 7inch pistol is just stupid, u want to lighten your load first of all and having a 7 inch weapon isnt exactly versitle, go for a 5 inch gun.

Guns id recommend you getting include

KSC HK USP
KSC HK .45
Umarex HK MK23
TM HK MK23

I recommend these guns because u said ur hands were big :)

R.I.T.Z January 22nd, 2012 00:46

The tm mk23 is a nbb but shoots damn accurate and when you slap on the surpessor its damn quiet too, it is plastic but i hadnt had an issue with mine. I've heard mixed reviews about WE pistols, but in general I've heard noting but bad things about their dragons, the only thing i may use one for is parts to spiffy up a TM hicapa.

But i digress.
We can talk on and on about your gun choices. In the end it seems you want to buy a sniper rifle and a dragon.
Go ahead buy them but dont come crying when they arent the guns for you or oneof them breaks....

Styrak January 22nd, 2012 00:55

Another case of "asks for advice, ignores it and buys what they were going to buy anyway"

I think we're done here.

I dunno why people dislike WE so much, I think they're good as a budget pistol. Mine hasn't had any problems apart from the cansoft frame issue. Judging from what I've read, they seems to have low quality control and lots of lemons.

But for a little more than what you have in mind for the Dragon 7 inch, you could get a quality pistol. In general, pistols are meant to be concealable and not 7 inches IMO.

The guns that phlouder mentioned are good choices because they are known to be reliable or semi reliable and not bulky. On the other hand, WEs are known to frequently break down and your choice looks like a messed up 5.1 with an integrated compensator IMO.

surebet January 22nd, 2012 01:27

If you think WE pistols are good, you don't know what good is. Period.

Freeze January 22nd, 2012 01:34

Hey, everything is good for something. Even crap. Because crap can be used as a biofuel or for monkeys to throw at people.

WE is good as a starter pistol.
TM is good as an anything pistol.

Maybe a good starter pistol if you don't want people to play airsoft and you want them to take up throwing shitty pistols in fields.

For the difference in price you might as well start with a TM and be that much further ahead.

Curo January 22nd, 2012 02:13

Starter pistols should work and if and when they break easy to fix.

We pistols are not those things.

By that logic a straw and some BBs are a good way to start out. Quality is both relative and absolute, in the sense that some brand are are relatively better than some, and some are absolutely bad period.

WE pistols are absolutely horrible. The lemon rate is through the roof, replacement parts are hard to source and cost prohibitive, design is proprietary, durability is nil, accuracy is terrible and overall value is low, especially with Canadian pricing.

In the States they are priced at a level that makes sense, not here.

The cansoft subframe only adds another failure point to a proven bad design.

If you think they are good, it only means you haven't had the opportunity to handle something that is considered by most acceptable.
