That's a good point Black Hawk. Maybe it's in the buttstock, above the gearbox. As for the gearbox being plastic, i'll wait til they release it to pass judgement. They have already advertised the M249 and now the L85 as having a plastic gearbox as a selling point. So they either have actually tested this new box and know something we don't, or they are idiots. One way or another, we'll find out.

There are a lot of plastics that are actually stronger than metal. It is easier to produce a stronger plastic cheaper. Our mechboxs are actually made from very low quality metal. This could be good.

Yea, great point- let us just stay on the positive side of things for now and hope.

So I guess your gonna get one eh? Witch one? and about the battery question, reason I asked was I thought the mechbox would take up all or if not most of the stock. and well if they have the batteries there.. its gonna have alot of weight at the end of the gun and hardly any at the other end....

I love how the L85A2 can fit all M16 mags... sweet, I don't have to stock up on mags since I can use my armalite mags as is.

AUGs seem not to have any problems with that.

gandar October 7th, 2005 15:50

Yeah, but you can still get a 9.6v in there, just requires a custom build ;).... Definately not as much room in them as there is in the Armalites... I find though, with the metal upper, that it ballances the weight out, plus with the way it's designed to be held (bullpup design) that the weight feels comfortable where it is.

You know what.. Your right, I totaly forgot about the AUG. Although you have to admit it would be a bit cooler with battery in the foregrip.

gandar October 7th, 2005 16:35

There's probably almost enough room in the forestock for a nunchuck battery I'd think... At least on some of the bigger models...

Lerch October 7th, 2005 18:11

Wasn't it the Academy model that had the battery in the foregrip? It seemed that alot of people didn't like the way it all went together, so this could be a result of that.

Slick October 7th, 2005 18:26

The Academy could fit a large 8.4v battery. And a large 9.6v with a small modification.

Ok, I got PM's of people who wanted proof that the L85 from TM is indeed a boys gun... Here it is.

Ewwwwww! What a waste! Ekkie. Anyways lets keep this thread updated about the STAR L85's since they might be half good

Lerch October 13th, 2005 00:36

Seeing as the real steel rifle is half good, these don't have much to compete with. And especially since they've got decent SUSAT sights.
