A healthy community is built through airsofting, not talking about airsofting. Good organization is done by people who recognize deficiencies experienced in playing airsoft, not by people who hypothesize about deficiencies based on a forum about airsoft.

anyways, no matter what.. airsoft is gonna be an "underground" sport
i think the only way to get new players is to introduce some buddies.
It is for the most part an underground sport. Comes from using things are we're technically not suppose to be able to buy and sell at all. That's one of the basics you need to grasp before talking about anything else. And airsoft is heavily based on word-of-mouth, the more you play the more apparent that is.

Excuse me, sir. ECCO are pros. They are THE paid contractors of choice in Calgary, hehehe!!!

Indeed! All I was trying to get across is that none of us are "Pros". I'd hat to see Airsofters on speedball fields wearing red billboard jersys!

Mercs don't count! They are in a class of their own!

Greylocks is actually a great member IMO, he puts ppl right in there place and is pretty much straight forward.

that comment was meant as a compliment not an insult, I've traded BB's with Grey @OPCT 1 and i would gladly do so again.

Greylocks is the only one left from all of us that still have the patience and breath to entertain, the rest of us just want play and leave the politics and quarrel out of it. For majority of us when we start playing there are no politics, no flaming, in fact majority of the newer player get to know airsoft by observing team Hot Shot, SD unit, AMC or team STAT play at paintball city, wasaga, splatters or the old flag raiders field. I still remember when Poncho will organised games sometimes weeks or months ahead of the date and we will end up with more players than anticipated because some new guys heard that we are playing and they would like to join. I remember loaning 6 -7 of my personal highly Modded AEG to players vouched by Poncho or Will with no charge.

Now it seems to me that being a forum tough guy matters more than being a respected player in the field. Too many cry babies have ruined this game, now instead of playing with common sense like we used to do, we have to put restriction like mercy rules and banning people from games for stupidity that happen on the field and every couple of months topic like this gets created by new players without the thought of maybe they themselves should play more to gained more experience before starting to organize or educate others.

Just because you shoot the real thing does not make you an expert in airsoft (it helps), airsoft is similar to real steel but it's experience is far from the real thing.

What you said is true, pro paintballers are generally corporate whores, but in the paintball world most rec players can't stand pro players because of their elitist attitude. But I also see that on here and on the airsoft playing fields. I have always felt that there is no such thing as a stupid question, unless you already know the answer, then its a stupid question. When I started out on these forums, I watched ppl get flamed for asking a simple question, because their new or not age verified. I have tried to read through all the threads, but sometimes its easier to have someone point you to where you need to go, not just say read the #$%^ing threads noob. Don't get me wrong there are some threads on here that are just plain stupid. So why not just ignore then instead of acting like a pro paintballer.

mcguyver December 6th, 2007 22:24

If you can't stand a little heat on an internet forum, how can you possibly control yourself on the field while under fire? Will you pull the trigger out of fear, or will you be composed enough to stay calm?

A little flaming for laziness or irresponsibility is not only necessary, but it serves a greater purpose. Weeding out the unfit, or unstable.

That being said, I'm usually not the first person to lay into anyone, but if you post of illegal or retarded crap, I'll say something. And why not. ASC may be a haven of flame-whores, but there is at least a smidge of self-regulation here. If a guy posts up about making a gun out of real parts for example, and nothing was posted to show the displeasure of the community, it would be perceived by those on the outside as being acceptable. The next step would be investigation, then prosecution.

Think I'm an alarmist, or that "those things" don't happen in Canada? You'd likely be shocked at what government search engines dig up each day.

Sergeantmajor December 6th, 2007 22:37

@wildcard.

yes...i see that i failed...i was trying to support your statement...

Gren December 6th, 2007 22:41

I can control myself better thanyou might think, both in the kitchen or under fire.

A little flaming, I agree is fine but most flaming does go to far. If one or even two people flame a person for a illegal post. Fine its fair play, but having people getting flamed for asking a simple question because there new, well come on lets grow up a little. If someone feels a thread is not in the best interest of our hobby, then say so without the name calling and report it to the mods. In my experience, both on the feild and on here people do take it to far. Their are people my area of play that I wouldn't go for a beer with, but when we're out on the feild I treat them with the respect that I wish to be given.

mcguyver December 6th, 2007 22:50

Yes, we are both correct (boy are we smart). Flaming is necessary, so we can't outright ban it. But going overboard is also bad. So we must be able to have some flaming.

But when new guys with 787 posts in 3 months (and likely don't own a gun either) start flaming, then there's a problem.

And for the new guy on the end of it, he needs to buck up a bit. This isn't a country club. We aren't here to answer "which gun is teh bezt". A responsible player will do his own work, answer his own questions. Those are the players you want out there, not just any kid who thinks this is cool and can afford a gun. They need to be off of here and on a field first.

Hey, maybe that's an idea. You can't sign up here unless a member knows you personally, like you actually have been to a game, as a player or interested-future-player. Why not add another level of bureaucracy to ASC?

Gren December 6th, 2007 22:58

I agree, I believe we are both correct ( We are so smart, SMRT I mean SMART). A person who is serious about making this a better sport will do their homework and ask the right questions. Those who don't even have a game under their belts should learn to keep quite and listen to those who have proven themselves under fire.

I salute you...Cheers....I would have a scotch with you sir.

Danke December 6th, 2007 23:52

It's real simple, $20.00 to become a member of the site. That will weed out the weak. It's worked on other sites so well it's not funny (well it is actually when someone demands their $20.00 back because their feelings have been stepped on).

And comimg from the new player side now, I have no problem with the hazing of the noobs. I don't need some joey shooting me in the ear from 2 feet away because it's so cool. Set the bar high and if you can't pay to play the boo hoo.

I see a lot of the online buttons in this thread are dark. Here's a fairly fresh thread http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=48719 about an L96 at buyairsoft.ca. Does anyone feel like encouraging this fellow?

So fully agreed on. I had to step back and completely retrain myself when I started with airsoft. Their ballistics are just too weird.
The safe handling aspect, and the aiming techniques, are the same. But it ends there for most anything else.

That is why I always say "Go to games". You'll meet people who KNOW their stuff.

Zeonprime December 7th, 2007 06:57

I still say Wildcard is an old fart, and Koopa I guess I can agree to the 4+ years :)

MadMorbius December 7th, 2007 10:45

4+ years is old? Sheeeeit.
