Gun Won't Fire
 

My friend said if I could fix his MP5 I could have it. He threw away the battery, so I hooked it up to a different batter that he had for is AK-47. So I've hooked it up to the battery and the motor turns but the gearbox doesn't. So I took the gear box apart to see if anything was broken and it was all fine. Put it back together to try it again and it still wouldn't work. Its almost like the motor cant turn the gearbox.
Any idea why it won't turn or shoot?

Does it make a noise when you pull the trigger?

Well in the handle I can feel the motor trying to turn and it made the click noise once but it didn't shoot anything.

Charge your battery. Either it isn't charged or your battery's dead.

Well I used my friends battery that is the same watts and it didn't work. Since I don't have a battery I don't want to spend the money on one if something else is broken.

Read up and watch videos on mechbox.com and learn how a mechbox works. Then you'll better be able to describe your problem, or better yet, fix it yourself.

There are a ton of parts inside the mechbox, so it could be anything. with the information you've given, we can't help you, hence why you'll need to educate yourself a bit more first.

Well like I said i took the mech box apart and checked every gear and every piece and they were all in great condition. its just that the motor cant turn the mech box.

Maybe its a motor problem? Get either a stronger one or maybe it's not a compatible one?

Do you hear a spinning sound? Then your motor likely isn't in contact with the gears.
I would advise you to look in the place that old the motor (located in the foregrip).
Which gun is it?

No its the same motor that came with the gun when it was bought.

Take out the spring.

Close up the mechbox.

Can you turn everything with your fingers moving the bottom bevel gear?

If not, the problem is inside.

If you can, then put the spring back in, and check the motor depth. if it is adjusted too deep, then it could lock up. There is a screw on the bottom plate of the handgrip that controls this.

Yes everything is moveable when i turn the bottom gear. And you said that the motor could be to far up in the gear box?

Piston could be stucked back and teeth stripped on it. Happened on my AEG.

Just back the hex screw out a bit and try again. Repeat if neccesary.

Ok. Ill try loosening the motor out a bit.

So the hex screw and not the screws holding the plate in?

Since I dont have a battery for the gun what would you recommend i use?

Yes the hex screw, NOT the other two Philips screws.

You'll need a 8-9 volt power supply of some kind. Be creative...

Ok. I got it to shoot but on single shot it shoots 2 BB's and if it doesnt shoot 2 they dont go very far.

I am assuming that this is an Aftermath Broxa or Lycaon. If so, the hopup , especially the rubber, is a POS. Will give you problems like that.

Both are actually pretty decent clearsoft starters, as the mechbox is not half bad. Get a new hopup rubber and shim the mechbox. It should last you long enough to realize that you are addicted to this sport. Unless of course you are underage and can't play anywhere- that would just suck.

This will most likely fix your problem but also turn down your hopup. You most likely have it to high.

i just tried to fire my gun today since i got it, the motor turns great when i take it out. but as soon as i put it in the gun, it wont work. does it mean the battery is too weak? i charged it for 2.5 hours the night before. dumb charger, Elite 1500mah 9.6v.

which charger? a fully charge 9.6v 1500mah should easily turn that mechbox assuming it's a stock spring or a slight upgrade.

either your battery is not charged enough, the motor is dying, or there's something else seriously wrong with your mechbox ie: shimmed wrong or something's broken

its a dumbcharger. a cheap one that comes with a gun.

Ok. so I was told the battery adaptor on my gun is a small one and is kind of a light green color. where can i get one of those at? it needs to be a 8.4v 2300mah

Try Huang, or airsoftparts.ca, or your local R/C hobby shop should have one. The connector you have is called a "Mini Tamiya" connector.

Have you upgraded your springs recently?
