Change to Classifieds?
 

Im not sure if this has been covered before, but i was thinking about something today. Rather than making the classifieds a section that is restricted to AVed members only, wouldnt it be better to allow it to be viewed by everyone, and the proof of age can be showed upon receiving the item or meeting with the seller?

I doubt it. People would more easily bypass the AV process and end up with legal issues I would think.

Because it works, and also that's the way we (mostly the staff of the site but partially the community) wants it.

With the amount of flakers that would just increase it even more since you're not really tied to anything.

Not only that it would likely increase the likelihood of scamming since you're not really tied to one account and can make new ones.

Basically the AV thing I see as a gatekeeping initiative done by the staff to prevent this kind of stuff and keep things decently in order. In a perfect world where minors had a developed mind and could think what was right/wrong and make smart decisions and there were no scammers then we wouldn't need an AV system but the sad truth is that our world isn't like that and we do need this kind of system in place.

If it is so hard for someone to go to a local field, show a AV'er your driver's license, then wait a week to get the new status, then go buy a gun from the states, china, walmart, canadian tire etc.

No... read the FAQs. AV system is in place for a reason.

I love how people (read: [mostly] kids) are always trying to come up with a way to get around the AV system and get access to our restricted classifieds. Just because it doesn't work in your favour, its has and still is working out JUUUUUUUUUUST fine for the rest of us.

Besides your system is beyond redundant. Instead of just meeting up with a person once to get AV'ed you'd be restricted to those in your immediate area for meeting up face to face transaction, thus severely eliminating the vast majority of the market you'd have from the classifieds. So if you don't see getting AV'ed as "worth it" and your system as worthwhile then thats good for you. We're not gonna change just for you.
