Shoot a GBB pistol upside down/sideways without damage?
I've been trying to find a straight-forward answer to this, but haven't been able to do so. I found one particular thread stating that their airsoft pistol's slide got completely blown off when it was used SIDEWAYS (though this may have been quite exaggerated).
I'm curious as to whether it's safe to shoot an airsoft GBB pistol upside down or even sideways safely and without causing any damage to the parts? I'm curious as the CAR shooting system/stance requires you to hold your gun (pretty much almost) sideways. Much thanks |
bad for the gun and the hopup sends the BBs sideways
|
The only position that Ive read about in Center Axis Relock that requires you to hold your gun even the slightest bit sideways would be the Apogee stance and even then you only tilt the pistol slightly inwards.
CAR apogee as shown in this video. YouTube- Basic Pistol Engagement As stated above the BB would spin off inaccurately due to the hopup after some distance. Probably not the greatest for the pistol either. |
If you ever hold your gbb sideways while shooting at a game, all other players are obligated to slap you.

and upside down would be bad as you wuld dump liquid propane into the blowback unit and nozzle making these items super cold and fragile.

To the OP, GBB gas guns are not design to be shot sideways or upside down due to the hop up design and the gas we use |
I wouldn't go more than a 45 degree angle, and even then only when I'm peeking out of a corner.
But I'm interested in seeing a video of someone trying to fire a GBB upside down... try it out. |

It's a pistol, you shouldn't have to be rotating your short/tiny little gun to be doing special maneuvers, no? |
|
You can do both, but 1-2 shots max, all the gas will vent out
|
Well the main reason I'm asking this is because there's a few moves in the CAR system that have you holding the gun upside-down even.
Dunno how professional this guy is (YouTube- Close Quarters Tactics), but that video depicts what I'm talking about. Thoughts? |
I know its old but http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/..._gun_sight.jpg

You could. You won't be able to get a continuous stream of fire on your target though, as your gas will basically run dry after a fraction of your mag. Sure you could practice it, but you will likely never use it, and may damage your internals while you're at it? I don't get the point of it, in that sense, lol.

I've shot a springer pistol sideways for fun and I don't recommend it. For one this the hop up on most springers are fixed (ie. generally tuned for a specific weight for most conditions (I believe it's .25)) so the shots always curve to the side.
On a GBB I highly don't recommend it. For one thing in the mag is liquid propane and you want to turn it into a GAS to be fed up and expand and the only way gas can do that is if the liquid propane is on the bottom of the mag (gas rises so upsidedown liquid propane will be at the "top" of the mag and just spew out from the "top" of the gun). Couple that with the "cooldown effect" from a liquid turning into a gas like that and you have a good chance of freezing/breaking your internals. |
The urban prone will require you to shoot your weapon on its side.....and that particular position is somewhat useful with barricade...
FYI, only guns running WA's Magna(maybe other version as well, but Magna for sure) will allow for non-vertical mag without the gun just dumps propane out. Mainly due to how their mags are designed. As far as GBB goes pointing straight(or generally passing 30 degree from horizontal in some cases) up and down will likely have the same issue also with liquid propane dumping. |
My friend shot his kjw g23 with a plastic slide upside down... the slide flew off of the pistol and damaged a few parts.
