Dean's to Mini-Tamiya Adapter?
 

I have Dean's Connectors on my airsoft gun and battery. However, I don't want to cut up the wires on my battery charger which currently has a Tamiya plug. Would it be possible to use an adapter to adapt the female Dean's (from the battery) to the male Tamiya plug (on the charger)? Will the battery still charge properly and so on?

#16AWG will be fine for you.

Will #18AWG be okay? #16AWG isn't available when I choose male Dean's/female mini-Tamiya connector for the left/right plug.

I've heard mention in the past that putting a Tamiya plug inline with a Deans will add resistance and result in the battery not getting a full charge.

Doesn't the added resistance just mean that the battery will take a little longer to charge?

You could just buy the Deans connector and solder it on there yourself, then you don't need a silly adapter.

As I understand it the last time it was discussed over time the extra resistance will cause the charger to undercharge the battery and it'll eventually pack in. Of course this is very dependent on the type of battery and brand of charger also.

It's fine for mechbox wiring too. You are just charging with the adaptor, so even smaller wire gauge would be fine, but going with #18 or #16 for your adaptor would be useful for using on your gun itself.

Wire resistance is measured per 1000ft, so the resistance you are looking at is barely anything, looking at my chart #18 has a reistance of 6.50 ohms, #16 is 5.15 ohms....... per thousand feet. You'll have more resistance in the Tamiya plug connections that you'll see in a couple inches of wire.

True, but not receiving a full charge is definitely false.
Yes it might just take SLIGHTLY longer to charge but that's negligible.

No. Bad idea.

However you can have someone local make you an adapter. I've made adapters for people.

By the time you get there the adaptor will be made and you'll be all set.

So far as I know, he doesn't do gun doc stuff anymore...so you'd better offer up two cases....then thank him repeatedly for helping before you hurt yourself.

Thanks for all the advice, but actually, I've decided I'm finally gonna use the GamesforCanada.com package forwarding service to save on shipping costs buying from Cheapbatterypacks.com. You can get an adapter made locally quicker and cheaper, but OK...
