So what kind of optics do you guys use?

Yeah, well I've been wondering what kind of sights people use. I've seen people with the real Aimpoints and Trijicon ACOGs and some with the Replica decent Optics. What do you use?

HeadlessChicken November 28th, 2010 16:56

Hurricane 556 holosight with a clone EOtech 3x magnifier, Magpul PTS flip up BUIS front and rear.

coach November 28th, 2010 17:11

BUIS that co-witnesses an M2 Aimpoint and Eotech 552 clones
Docter sight
Tasco 3-9x40

Kos-Mos November 28th, 2010 17:17

ACOG 4x sight (Don't like it, fits too high with either the carry handle or the rail mount)
AimPoint Comp M2 replica with L-mount (5 levels red only, not te two color ones)
AimPoint Comp M4 replica (lower profile than the M2, used on a G36)
1-6x32mm short scope replica (was a piece of crap)
3-9x40 Bushnell scope (real, cost about the same a a replica Mark3 but better picture)
Tasco 30mm RDS (real, 50$ and works perfectly for airsoft use, especially on small guns such as MP5 or P90)

MBUIS Co-witness with a repro EOTech 552. (The reticule of the EO was too large to my taste, hid the target more than anything else)
Stock iron sights (various weapons, might take some time to learn how to use it, but most of the time they work really well)

Evans November 28th, 2010 17:19

Replica Trijicon ACOG that holds the zero well, at least on my airsoft guns. No tritium in it though, obviously.
Also, a $30 reflex sight from EbayBanned that has been going for over a year. Perfect for indoors.

Spawn28 November 28th, 2010 17:30

I use Iron Sights Or Sniper Scope i freakin hate Red Dot Scopes

Styrak November 28th, 2010 17:38

Optics? Psh.

Irons!

Statua November 28th, 2010 17:38

Some Crossman reflex sight I got from a friend for $5. I'll get a better one... some day. When I feel like ordering online.

Desmodus November 28th, 2010 17:48

G&P EOTech that I switch between my M4 and AK. Would really like to grab an AimPoint or ACOG eventually though..

Donster November 28th, 2010 17:49

NC star pistol (re: long eye relief) scope with 2-7x magnification

Conker November 28th, 2010 17:55

Element EOTech 553 on CQB receiver.
KAC Flip Up Rear Sight, 200-600 Meter
KAC Flip Up Front Sight

ACM SpecterDR 4X + Docter on carbine receiver.
ARMS #40 Rear Sight
Colt Triangle Front Sight

Eeyore November 28th, 2010 17:59

Bushnell Holosight that I switch between my guns and Troy flip up battle sights on my M4.

juicy November 28th, 2010 18:24

Aimpoint COMP M4 clone is the only working optic I've got left ATM. Okay, I lied - its the only working optic I use ATM.

Irons are okay - AK irons are great. I can't seem to acquire targets in any degree of efficiency with a scope/magnification.

Edit: OP, this thread is a great idea, lol. I have a feeling you're actually wanting to know what what is commonly used, but this feels just like posting in a "show off your stuff" thread and I love it!

Assault Pioneer November 28th, 2010 18:33

AN PVS-1 night vision scope

The101Factor November 28th, 2010 19:54

I use a Real Aimpoint COMP ML2 Seriously you could leave it on for three months go out and play a game and leave it on a few more months.
*Real optics apparently work great for guns that have recoil... no kidding?*
Edit: Can you get real NVGs in Canada? Or is that illegal because my friend is loling at me because he thinks so and he has NVGs, damn Aussies.

FlyGuy November 28th, 2010 20:10

You asked...
  • Mil-spec GEN3 NVM (uses Photonis XD-4 image tube which is equivalent and in some respects surpasses ITT GEN3, sadly though without the autogate feature as it was far too costly an option to add-on), have both helmet and weapon mounts
  • Mil-spec GEN1 NVRS 1-3x magnification, image is exceptionally sharp for a GEN1 tube, very weather/fog resistant but lots-o-glass so it's heavy and needs an IR source to extend its range, can be used during daylight with its IR filter cap in place
  • EOTech 551 HWS (real steel)
  • Streamlight TLR-2 torch/red laser (real steel)
  • Huang-point (clone of the Aimpoint version) 3x magnifier on a LaRue FTS mount (clone), other than short eye relief it does what it does rather well
  • King Arms (Troy clone) folding BUIS, stock M4 "triangle" front sight
  • stock iron sights for now on my MP-7, undecided on which optic to go with or just stay with the irons - it's a close range weapon so (vulnerable and expensive) optics aren't really all that necessary
In most respects though, unless you are a sniper or need magnification (for spotting), properly zeroed iron sights and your eyeball are all that you really need to aim and follow your BB's down range during the day. Having an optic like the EO-551 for example does not guarantee that you will hit whatever the reticle is sitting on but it can help you obtain a faster sight picture onto your target all things being equal. For night ops, illuminated sights and/or night vision optics (tracers and lasers will give away your position) are a good way to go...or, just flash your 200 lumen torch at the enemy and blind them long enough to get the kill shot.

OMG CYBORGS! *Pulls out a Tac McMillan .50 ANTIMAT Rifle loads a Magazine of HEAT.50* Bye, bye Mr.Robot.
Also forgot to add my Iron sights to the list, zeroing is the key to success just look at the Mosoin Nagant it fought and won Civil Wars against its self.

-Trooper- November 28th, 2010 20:35

I've used a few since I started playing; rifle scopes, red dots and a variation of red dots with magnifiers. I now only use a King Arms CompM2 red dot. It's all you really need and mine holds zero on my WE 416.

Crunchmeister November 28th, 2010 20:41

Depends on the gun really and the situation.

On my C7 I have a Classic Army Elcan to give it (more or less) the C7 look.

On my other guns, I'll use various sights depending on the situation:

AGOC 4x replica
EOTech 552 (real steel)
EOtech 501 / Bushnell HOLOSight (real steel)
Hurricane 552
Occasionally I'll add a 4x magnifier to those EOTech sights.

And of course, there are good old iron sights which can't be overlooked.

The101Factor November 28th, 2010 20:54

You have a C7 Airsoft Gun? What did you do get a custom lower receiver with all the proper markings?

Got age verified and made an order with a retailer most likely,

Brayden November 28th, 2010 22:02

If you want 'real optics' for cheap ebay occasionally has roughed up ones that really only need a new paint job yet they are under 100$ for say a eotech 552 compared to 250$ at minimum new.

Yes. I have both a C7A2 C8A3 (still work in progress). The C7 started life as a Classic Army M15A4. The C8 is a custom built job from the ground up. Both have correctly marked receivers and were purchased from the classifieds here on ASC, although the serial numbers on these ends with NL which is incorrect for CF-issued guns. Those letters are normally only found on C-series guns used by the Netherlands Army, which obviously don't have the CF markings. Otherwise, all other markings are correct.

C7A2 and C8A3 are the 2 middle guns here.

Don't have a close-up pic of my C7's receiver, but this is the C8. It's a plain C8 and doesn't have the extra A3 added to it, but hey, it's close enough for me.

Vortex Strikefire (shown below with x2 magnifier). $250 compared to $400+ for a real aimpoint. Lifetime warranty and one of the best warranty companies I know! I should also mention it cowitnesses perfectly!

1- quicker target acquisitions in dark environments when iron sights seem to disappear in the darkness.

2- takes the impact of an inbound head shot from your target.

3- looks cool.

4- makes the rifle heavier and sometimes unbalanced.

5- can be zeroed for a different distance than iron sights

Ninja_En_Short November 30th, 2010 16:33

For the first point I put some glowing paint on it and done.

Padkiller November 30th, 2010 17:16

A.C.M Elcan 4x scope,

It's good for mid-long range but doesn't make you a sniper !

c3sk November 30th, 2010 18:53

Real Trijicon ACOG TA31F
Pretty much my goto optic for CQB/Range, it does it all.
Tritium makes it a badass night optic.
Just wish it would work with a PVS-14, time to invest in an Eotech I guess.

Reckless November 30th, 2010 22:09

laser (when approved ofcourse)
mini DR
aimpoint reflex
eotech 552
elcan

Molomir December 7th, 2010 12:50

Either a Replica ACOG x4 or a replica EOTECH 552

Strelok December 7th, 2010 13:04

I personally just use a basic hunting scope on my rifles. I have a bushnell 3-9x35 I think,I may be wrong. Anyway, the hunting reticule is perfect for pressing range as a sniper, I have a guide that explains why in the tactics section.

Eye releif is pretty nice on the bugger, too.
