Vests and Your Prerogative

I have a regular vest that i bought last year for dirt cheap from army navy deals. It carries like 6 mags has two pockets for god know what ever, a radio pocket and a map pocket. I mean it's pretty good and all but I'm looking at getting something a little more sleek well i should say more efficient.. I have to constantly unclip the pouches to get the mags out and then clip it back in so they don't fly around.. They have Velcro on them and i was considering just cutting the clips off but then i thought i would just leave it alone and put it in the archives.. I've been looking on eBay for a lot of stuff and i came across a few rigs that have been really cool. Just curious as to what some of you guys think of what to invest in so i don't have to repeat the process again. I mean i should have done this in the first place before spending any cash but in the end it wasn't a lot i spent and it all works out.. Trial and Error.. I picked this one out

I like woodlands gear it goes with everything.. You can wear it over any camp BDU's and it works.. I figured Molle is the way to go.. Any opinions?

Great price to but whats the quality like?

FOX_111 January 17th, 2011 16:44

You will probably find this vest very hot and combursome if you spend a lot of time running and crawling.

I would have spent my money on a more modular systme like seperate armor, chest rig...

BobbyDangerous January 17th, 2011 17:06

That is Modular.. I'm still looking though this was just one that i came across.. The Hunt continues.. Thanx for the input :)

FOX_111 January 17th, 2011 17:11

I ment more modular as being able to go light with no armor, to keep cool and mobile.

Your vest is some sort of a replica of a heavy body armor that is hot and cumbersome.
Take a look there: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=92185
You will find a lot of pics of what I mean. Especially in the last pages. Lot's of chest rig and body armor.

security-101 January 17th, 2011 17:13

I picked up that vest on Ebay, it was alittle small for me.......but for the price its a good build!

AoiShikaku January 17th, 2011 18:19

I picked up the exact vest for my GF who is pretty petite. Fits her perfect... so unless you are a small guy I'd find something else.

If you are a small guy... great vest. She has no problems with it at all. Movement, pouches, etc. Perfect for her in all aspects.

Ninja_En_Short January 17th, 2011 20:49

A friend got one, hated it ever since he got it. not very comfortable and pretty fragile... he did the same thing as me in the end : get a real PC in Cordura. :D

Any thoughts on this one?

Ninja_En_Short January 17th, 2011 22:18

Errr... another rip off, I would be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery surprised if this was real cordura.

Really, if you want proper quality get either Flyye or Pantac products or real deal. I don't know what loadout you have but Tactical Assault Gear has begun to sell ATACS (I'm getting a Banshee plate carrier) and has a lot of colors.
You can also have a look at SKD Tactical.

It's your choice but for my gear I only buy real stuff or gear I'm sure is made of good materials, I'm specialized in solo recon/sniper/sabotage, if I have to flee I want to be sure I won't loose half my gear in branches or elsewhere.
The... "things" you show me, I would not trust them one bit.

EDIT : it doesn't even says Cordura actually. Still : run like hell from it !

Eien January 17th, 2011 22:31

If you insist on getting a woodland vest then Ehobby might have something there but I do agree with everyone else. If I were you, get something in Coyote Brown, it goes with every camo. Though, you get what you pay for if you side with the chinese vests.

FOX_111 January 17th, 2011 22:45

OD and CB are the 2 colors that match with everything.

Check out the RRV. Or Rodesian Recon Vest. I got one and it's super versatile. It's afordable too. A real one, from a real gear maker ca ben had for less than 200$. A copy can be bellow 100$. Flyye and Pantac make good one I hear.

And when you discover that you need acurate gear for a specific loadout, your vest will still be usefull for something. Unlike the woodland stuff you linked.

juicy January 17th, 2011 22:47

For a guy of your size, you should probably avoid ACM vests as they're on the small-medium size range, a.k.a. "Asia sizing". Unless you want to have all the adjustments really slack and you'd look kinda funny with a panel being too small for you.

MOLLE is nice, but ACM webbing and stitching is generally of terrible quality. YouTube - Redwolf Labs 06 - Combat Vest Destruction Test - Pantac YouTube - Redwolf Labs 07 - Combat Vest Destruction Test - Pantac - Part II

ACM quality is far from the best. Condor is better than ACM, as per found at Airsoft-Club, though it usually will cost a little more. That being said, if you're a chairsofter, who cares? Your gear won't be subjected to any abuse - I'm quite hard on my stuff (kit especially), thus I tend to destroy things that I wear often fairly quickly if they're of sub-par quality.

That's my opinion.

DJBackfire January 17th, 2011 23:55

I got a Pantac RRV from the ASCMart, its lightweight, and durable. I move around alot on the ground and my kit takes a beating, IMO I would go with something of the higher end side of things because I wouldn't waste my money on buying something that will break after using it awhile.

BobbyDangerous January 18th, 2011 05:51

WOW excellent.. Thats for all the feedback some great ideas.. I know OD and Coyote go with everything but i think Woodlands does to.. Depending on what you have though.. I have Bijian Knee pads and they're rare to find in the city and they're woodlands so i'm sticking with it.. But i really do appreciate all the options thrown out there.. Great guys!!!

Schlyder January 18th, 2011 06:26

You're going to build a loadout based on your kneepads?? Do you plan on doing an accurate woodland impression?
If not....Why do you not listen to the good suggestions given to you?
OD and/or CB is the way to go. Then you can get whatever camo works best for the area you will play in. Effective and versatile is what you need.

KoRn January 18th, 2011 07:46

This ones good 130$

We say dump the woodland if you want to be versatile, as most of the teams are made based on camo type. Usually digital paterns vs analor, green vs tan, solid vs camo or Nato vs the rest.

Having a plain color rig will let you change your BDU to match whatever dress code you like and not be a confusing target to others, especially your team.

BobbyDangerous January 18th, 2011 10:11

I'm gonna go with olive drab then If anything...

DJBackfire January 18th, 2011 12:17

Well you could always go with a woodland bdu, with the woodland knee pads and have an Olive Drab or Coyote Brown vest?

BobbyDangerous January 18th, 2011 12:34

My pants are woodland.. Top is black

BobbyDangerous January 18th, 2011 12:39

I have multicam as well too.. I'm gonna make an executive decision tonight lol

FOX_111 January 18th, 2011 12:41

Get a matching top.
Black is bad!

MiniMcNabb January 18th, 2011 14:02

Wear whatever color(s) you want bro. Be your own airsofter.

DEATH2000 January 18th, 2011 14:10

If your gonna go MultiCam/PMC try for a Tan vest. You can rock a black vest with pretty much all darker styles of camo. OD is good if your always gonna wear camo. I like to bounce between PMC ish when i play indoors, and camo'd when im outdoors.

Yuck, multicrap...

Technically, PMC's can't wear ANY camouflage, I think - they could be confused for military guys if they do.

I recall something about SWAT wearing all black for more of the shock-and-awe aspect than anything else. They don't have to blend into their environment, anyway. Blending in is definitely nice for airsoft, unless you love getting shot at.

This here is the best advice. Airsoft is totally all about customizing and dressing yourself and your gun in whatever manner you want to and/or whatever you think looks good (or appropriate).

Then again, you were asking for advice, so... uh.. yeah. Try figuring out what camouflage/colours work in your area/at your field. Depending on the season, the colours at the field will be changing too - keep that in mind? Some local guys here have a camo for every season. And as Fox has already stated, OD and CB are pretty much universal colours - they work with many different patterns of camouflage and in many different environments.

Ninja_En_Short January 18th, 2011 18:04

PMC can wear camo,it depends of the operation theater, a lot don't but my cousin was in Afghanistan a few years back, worked with some PMC there, some wearing multicam with CB plate carriers, others were civilian style.
To quote him : the first were insanely professional, most of the seconds were complete trigger-happy-dumbasses.
Like in the army : you have pros and zeros... and what I call the "blunder teams", the guys you know will screw up and will indubitably screw up harder than you thought they would.
And obviously gear is a good indicator in some cases.

Not sure if rules have changed but when I was in Afghanistan back in 2008 I saw quite a few Contractors in Multicam.

juicy January 18th, 2011 18:32

I guess I'm wrong then? A while back, I just read a blurb about that while doing research for something else... could have misread it, maybe.

Specs January 18th, 2011 18:38

multicam is really good...Ive seen my fair share of asian guys fucking disappear in the forest with it on

Ninja_En_Short January 18th, 2011 18:47

Then wait for a bit, I'll try to see how A-TACS works ;)

BobbyDangerous January 29th, 2011 15:56
