TM G17 vs. G18C
Hey all,
I'm planning on buying a sidearm / cqb primary in the very near future. was wondering what everyone thinks of the G17 vs the G18c. which one would you get and why? is there a difference (other the the auto ie. if you fired a 18 in semi would it be the exact same as a 17?). i'm trying to decide between the two. i've been hearing the 18s break if fired auto on propane. have people had this issue firing semi, or with the 17? is there a quick fix? |
nother question... if i put a g18 in semi, remove the slide and replace it with a slide fro a g17, will it stay in semi? just thinking if thats the case, i'll buy a 18, and if i change my mind i just need to change the slide.... right?
|
Another consideration would be if you plan on purchasing a carbide kit for it in the future. If that is the case than go with the 18.
If you're that concerned about firing in auto with propane ...... than just don't. I'm sure if you look in the review section of the forums you'll be able to find dozens of them on these 2 particular guns. Cheers, FACE |
i own a TM g18c and a hi capa
never tried the g17 however. the g18c in semi fires just like any other gbb in semi mode. but the full auto is alot of fun. ive fired with propane on mine without problems but will probably be sticking to air duster (a can lasts forever anyway) just in case. ive put about 600 rounds thru it so far without any problems at all. |
ya i've read reviews... the problem is most people do a review of the gun when its brand new. they are always excited about the gun and its alwas so awesome... i'm loking for people who have put a few thousand round throughthem already.
i'm alao looking for peoples personal preferances and why. the question about the slide swap is that if i change my mind about the looks, can i run it in semi with a g17 slide on it. |
Different systems, the G17 slide won't fit unto the G18. If you think the full auto feature might be something you'd want to use from time to time, go with the G18. Either way if you use them on propane, some minor mods are required if you want them to be good solid performers.
|
ya i read that about the propane, i'll probably run it on duster until the gun is modified.
is the hop up the same between them? |
Internally from the BBU forward the 2 are more or less than same. The hop-up design is identical and can use the same tight bore and hop-up bucking.
The hammer mechanism and the trigger linkage plus the BBU are unique to each gun though. |
G18C will work with G17 slides, your semi-auto is disabled however, allowing you to have a fully auto G17. I did this with my Glock on the GCC.
|
ok...
whats a gcc? oh, and will a g17 outer barrel work on a g18. i don't see why they wouldn't but i'd ask then find out the hard way. |
Oh, correct me if im wrong RM, but the air nozzle is also different too IIRC.. G18C has that flat part while G17 is circular.
|
is the outer interchangeable? or is there a threaded barrel that will work for the 18?
|
Not sure if nozzles are interchangeable, I will test mine out to see for sure unless someone else has already done so, but the bevel in the nozzle prevents BBs from crushing the lower half of the nozzle tip during misfeeds. All of the "enhanced" G17 nozzles have beveled tips.
GCC stands for Glock Carbine Conversion. |

have you tried a threaded barrel on you g18? i plan on putting in a longer barrel when i run the carbine kit. |

When I say BBU I include everything thats in it, including the nozzle. The nozzle is unique to each gun, due to the weight reduction pocket on the slide on the G18C, the nozzle cylinder is no longer round but instead a D-shape. |
the issues the G17 can have... are the same issues the G18C can have... just the full auto fire increases the chances (and decreases the possible "time" till it happens)
the screw mount in the frame, the front of the slide... and I have seen reports of the full auto "sear" in the G18C failing ... there is mention of how to reinforce the screw hole mount on the frame... a metal slide with a good recoil spring/buffer set up ... and shooters design has newer moar betterer full auto sears available. I've got 1200-1300 rounds through mine .. in and out of a carbine as my primary outdoors I have a "spare" complete lower (haven't gotten my complete top yet for twins) I'm gonna do the reinforcement to the screw mount... and switch over my existing slide assy, then I'll check/reinforce the screw mount on my original lower. other then a couple small dimples in the top front corners of my slide from the Roni carbine kit ... I've had no damage or failures , however I have been gaming outdoors in pretty cool weather so the propane is not running full power. |
^ please keep me up to date.
i saw a post of a hop-up failing, and can't seem to find a replacement. i would like to run on propane, eventually. but want to be sure i'm not shooting myself in the foot. |
I havent had my TM G18C fail on me yet. The only thing that broke was the air nozzle which I have fixed and have replaced with a harder one.. Here are some upgrade parts that Im using for my G18C, but keep in mind, Im using most of these for short stroking with a functional mag catch. A;so, Im using a TK twist barrel (not shown below) and the slide/outer barrel set in the pic is by SD.

good to hear.
i've been concerned about running propane. i'll run duster for a little while. i'm going to exopy the frame post to prevent cracking. maybe i'll run propane when i use the gun as a side arm, where i won't be using full auto, and duster when i'll be running full auto as my primary. |
i always use propane to my TM G17 & KSC G18, dint know any thing else to use, lol!
anybody know where to get a injection valve for TM G17 and KSC G18 magazine? pm me pls! |
Any problems with importing a Hera Arms glock kit? Anyone with any sucess?
|
Ive imported 2x. both were searched by CBSA, both passed without any problems!

my cousin has the same gun with the same upgrades - metal slide 150% recoil spring - after about 400-500 rounds his frame broke at the typical spot. after using JB-Weld to re glue it all back together, the gun works perfectly again! im only taking a guess on this, so dont quote me.. but i usually do 3-5 round bursts on full auto. were as my cousin does full mag dumps. maybe the long busts freeze the lower frame making it more fragile?? Get an 18c! the way i thought if it is, its basically the same as a 17.. it just has an added benefit of full auto. for $10 difference, why not?? |

But yeah they get through fine, cause all it is is just a plastic rectangle. |
I just picked up a marui g18, ran it with duster and it was horribly weak. Just pick up a metal slide and run propane through it..the kick on full auto with the metal slide is nothing short of amazing. People fear you hah
