Sig-551 Swat/VFC SOPMOD M4

Just as the title says, im thinking of getting a sig 551 swat(ICS) or SOPMOD M4(Vega Force), what are your thoughts on the gun's ? preferably people who have worked on them or have owned them at one point in time. However anything is welcome, i'd just like to know what you guys think about the comparison ?.

551 Swat:

SOPMOD: II

Snakebite1967 March 29th, 2011 18:52

i own a VFC Sopmod for a full season now almost bought the ICS heard stories about pieces falling off and overall the build quality did not seem as nice, my VFC has not had a single issue internaly or externaly... definitaly recomend it

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 18:54

Thanks man, how do you find the accuracy on it?

Snakebite1967 March 29th, 2011 18:59

to be honest very good with 28 Bastards, good range good accuracy never even bothered with a tight bore, run a lipo on it too not an issue, a full season of rough play not even one external mark on the body

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 19:02

thanks for your time man ! also, stupid question but, would you have to buy a tight bore separately ? like buy a whole different barrel ? or do they come with them or with out them ?

Because a tighter bore would = better accuracy and range yes ? (i am probably wrong but yeah. xD)

Snakebite1967 March 29th, 2011 19:05

i was going to pickup a tight bore seperatly but actualy gamed it first and then didnt bother,it would increase the accuracy but to be honest it isnt needed.

Ive ran this rifle thru rain snow mud its been dropped many times, same as mags ive used just about every brand with only one issue which was a damaged mag very well built rifle the only one i own thats not been upgraded at all

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 19:07

sweet man, thanks for your input seriously, also do you use any kind of optics with it ? or just iron sights.

Snakebite1967 March 29th, 2011 19:11

depends on the look im after ive ran Elcans Acogs Eotechs ive also swapped out stocks and front shrouds rifle is very versatile

fi3re March 29th, 2011 19:23

go vfc. they are generally accepted as top notch guns. Very nice externals decent to good internals. Plus with sopmod you have lots of aftermarket potential.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 19:30

Thanks fi3re, you guys seem to be persuading me to the SOPMOD, it seems to have a lot of nice reviews as well.

Snakebite1967 March 29th, 2011 19:31

Yes it does did a lot of research before i bought very happy

Kozzie March 29th, 2011 20:18

I have an ICS sig 551 and I'm very happy with it. Shoots accurately out of the box (put a TB barrel and you're laughing) and has a nice rate of fire. The overall fitment and quality of the gun is very nice and the hop up is very easy to adjust. It's a full metal gun but it doesn't weigh a lot only 6 lbs. My two biggest complaints with it are the swinging trigger guard is too easy to swing and can get annoying. I put a couple dabs of glue to stick it in place and I totally forgot about about it. The other issue are mags, it takes proprietary mags and ICS ones can be tough to find. That being said Tm and MAG brand mags will fit and feed perfectly with a small modification see thread > http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=117937 < The best thing about the Sig 55X other than the fact that it looks so damn cool are the mags. They will lock together (like the G36) so your loading time is virtually cut in half. The other cool thing is that the mags are clear, this lets you easily see how much ammo you have left. I love this gun I find it to be very comfortable to shoulder and nice to operate.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 20:25

Thanks for your feed back Kozzie! what about the aftermarket availability ? is is as vast as the SOPMOD ? or a bit more sparse ?

fi3re March 29th, 2011 20:26

lol kozzie I feel bad XD, not knocking the sig 551 just the vfc sopmod i've heard tonnes of good things about, dont know anything about the 551 internally.

agreed on the build quality, the sig 551 feels amazing in the hands, one solid gun. the reciever feels so nice and the selector switch is so clicky (good thing).

the sopmod will have much more aftermarket ability. Not only is the ICS a slightly proprietary mechbox design (not a huge deal considering most of the mechbox internals are standard anyways) but an M4 is an M4. Anything can be swapped out with different after market parts ie ris, grips, stocks barrel etc. The sig has much more limited external upgrades.

Styrak March 29th, 2011 20:37

It depends on what your own opinion is. Ours doesn't matter.
Go with what YOU want.

Kozzie March 29th, 2011 20:44

Fi3re is right, it's more difficult to find aftermarket parts for any gun than the M4. M4's are so common you'll find all sorts of stuff for them from every airsoft retailer. After market parts are available for the sig 551, RIS handguard, top rail collapsable stock ect. but they will be harder to source than for any M4. I personally like the look of the SIG and don't want a lot of crap on my gun that I don't need or use for the sake of it. But thats just me I'm a minimalist and I want to keep my gun light. That being said the Sig comes with removable rails for the handguard if you want to mount a flashlight, PEQ box or vert grip ect.
I won't try to steer you in any direction just say that I am happy with my gun. I think both guns are good and you'd be happy with either.

Edit: if you can try to get your hands on both of them, pick them up shoulder them see which one feels most comfortable to you.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 20:51

i know that styark and thanks for the reminder, however its nice to hear people speak so passionately about there guns, so now im basically down to just what i think looks better to me. Thanks a lot guys, hopefully ill have some pics up of either one of these soon, depending on which way i go!.

Kozzie March 29th, 2011 21:01

Shadow I'll be at Sgt Splatters on Sunday 7pm-12am if you want to see the ICS Sig in person. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=121441

Edit: There are rentals available if you want to play and spectators are always welcome if you just want to watch.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 23:15

i just might take you up on that one man ! thanks.

Btw, how much are rentals man ? i may just play.

Styrak March 29th, 2011 23:25

If you're going to get a Sig, get a G&G. Best one out there.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 23:40

hmm only problem is the place i was going to order my gear from doesn't have the G&G, mach1airsoft, thats who i primarily wanted to deal with, unless you had another place i could go to thats trust worthy and fairly good prices ?

Styrak March 29th, 2011 23:54

Well I would recommend a seller on here but you're not Age Verified. The only other place I know that sells the G&G is BuyAirsoft.ca

And yes, it might be more expensive than the ICS (it's $600-$700) but it's worth it. Trust me, I have a real one, and I've handled the ICS 551.

[NBK]Shadow March 29th, 2011 23:58

Thanks for the input man, i plan on heading down to TTAC3 tomorrow to get AV'd

Kozzie March 30th, 2011 18:56

I think it's $20 for the rental, are you a member of Airsoft Ontario? http://*********************/forum/index.php

If not sign up and contact Thenooblord he rents guns. He has a temp ban from ASC for being naughty lol

[NBK]Shadow March 30th, 2011 19:35

i wasn't but will do now *nods* ill get in contact with him tonight and see what he offers, hopefully ill see ya out there sunday! whats the cost of BB's ? if you know off hand.

fi3re March 30th, 2011 21:19

bb's are around 10 bucks a bag for bbbastards (best brand imo). But you will have to find someone that sells them or buy them from a store.

From the sound of it I dont think you really know how airsoft games work. We (or the host) arranges a deal with a paintball venue. We bring our own bb's and everything. The venue has nothing to do with airsoft rentals, equipment rentals or sales of bb's.

Thank you for that, i was a bit fuzzy there but you cleared it up man, thanks *nods*

phloudernow March 31st, 2011 00:02

VFC is one of the best high end companies out there and yes the SOPMOD is one of the better rifles too, its not the E series which is the budget series, Go with VFC, they beat ICS anyday in quality control and durability, internally and externally.

Shifty-C March 31st, 2011 01:34

I got the vfc m4 and its just awesome, solid as hell, good internals/stock accuracy, good compatibility. no complaints at all, except that my wires are a little too long in the back and its hard to cram them in there when my stock is not extended.

compared to the SIG its not even in the same league.

my buddy has the SIG and its okay but overall quality is less. Also not as good of an outdoor gun as the barrel is quite short.

[NBK]Shadow March 31st, 2011 15:28

thanks a lot guys, i have made my choice ^_^ im going to be getting the SOPMOD thanks for everyone's time !

Snakebite1967 March 31st, 2011 15:34

Gratz u wont regret it

Shifty-C March 31st, 2011 15:43

Agreed, and the packaging is perfect! but read the product catalog that comes with it. It is one of the worst english translations ive ever seen. The word competitiveness is used as a describing word. good for a laugh:p

THe_Silencer March 31st, 2011 16:06

FYI VFC's all come with a 6.04mm tightbore barrels. While they're certainly not the BEST in the market, they're certainly a step up from from many other stock inners. It should definitely tide you over until you get a prommy barrel :D

[NBK]Shadow March 31st, 2011 18:24

whats a good barrel for me to get for it in a few months down the line, i wanna have some crazy good accuracy *nods*

Styrak March 31st, 2011 18:41

Use what you have and see what it's like. A lot of people don't upgrade their barrel at all.

[NBK]Shadow March 31st, 2011 18:51

i see i see, will do !

fi3re March 31st, 2011 18:56

good bb's and nicely dialed in hopup will be good enough until you have the 70 bucks to get a nice prometheus tightbore

Styrak March 31st, 2011 19:14

Shadow, just for reference my CYMA AKS74U still has the stock barrel, and it outshoots half of other people's guns or more.
A tightbore doesn't make that much of a difference. It would probably be better to put the cash toward a good battery and smart charger.

Snakebite1967 March 31st, 2011 21:32

None.

Ritikuo April 2nd, 2011 22:27

VFC better have higher quality versus ICS sig series. the VFC is 25-35% more in price wise.... Personally I purchased the ICS sig551 and I love the gun. like kozzie said, the ics sig's have very good rate of fire, and very solid with absolutely no wobble at all.
