Shipping guns in a hard case
I am in the process of buying a gun out of the classifieds The owner is new to shipping and he suggested shipping the gun in a plastic hard case. Is this a good idea or just way to conspicuous?

No one has any business asking you what you're shipping.

And that's a serious question, as I'm ignorant on the topic. http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/ma...-e.asp#1378185 "3.3 Firearms (including imitation and replica firearms)" |
Yup.
I've sent probably 25+ guns across the country shipped in hard gun cases, every single one's made it there without problems. If anyone asks, instead of being a dick and going "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" just say "Sports equipment" |
There isnt a need for a plastic case unless its to ensure the safe transit of your gun. A simple plain cardboard box that is tightly and securely tapped up is the norm. I have never had a problem shipping or receiving something in a simple cardboard box. Just as long as there is not pictures of scary black guns on them it should be fine. Another thing is make sure they use but loads of tape. It drives me mad to see my $500+ gun held in a box by three pieces of scotch tape. I didnt make that up either!!
Also, a plastic case will add at least 1 KG of weight, cardboard box, maybe 200 grams |
about a month ago i bought a ptw and it came in bubble wrap, wrapped in newspaper, wrapped in tape, in a tuper wear container, wrapped in tape, covered in cardboard.............
yes it was a 1400$ but the packaging was GREAT......even though it took me 20$ to actually get to the gun lol. received three guns since i strted to play and all came in heavy cardboard boxes. while being fairly well wrappped. |

Airsoft is fine as well. |
Thanks guys, hard case ok!

Just take a two black garbage bags and wrap it around the case and your good to go.

Isn't Canada Post a bonded courier or something? Or at least the Expedited and Next Day shipping option that's kept in house?
Also, Hard Cases are susceptible to "walking away", it happened to someone in the US once. His Asahi FNC and Bushmaster disappeared from the UPS depot in the US (basically employee walked off with it). They were shipped in a pelican hard case from what I understand.... So yeah usually if there's thieves in the depots they'll target hardcases and such since usually there's valuable stuff in there. |
Insurance cost $1.50 for every $100 of value.

Everything I have ever shipped for Airsoft guns has been in cardboard box well stuffed & padded. Never had issues

Recently shipped my ak in a gun case, covered it in carboard and tape and stuck a shipping label on it, guy looked at me i said guitar stuff he said ok and that was it. No issues, most cp workers dont care unless its really suspicious

If I ship a gun in a gun case, I wrap the gun case in cardboard. If anyone ships one to me, I insist it be done with this way. Canada Post is rife with contractors who have thieving losers working for them.
I've lost more than a few items, ranging from gift cards to cheques to inner barrels (what they would do with a PTW inner barrel is beyond me). Ship regular parcel with signature and insured for the full value. |

If you don'T feel safe insure the package for more than the value you are selling it for. Always track your items. Sell localy if you can't trust them at all... I shipped over 20 items with them, never had any problem. Bought a couple of times, they friggin' lost my brand new CA p90 for over a month...then I received it like nothing happened.. you never know. |
