Building a race pistol

Hello everyone,
I want to build a pistol off of a TM Hi Capa.

Basically, these are the three things I want in it:
  • Accuracy
  • Power
  • Reliability

The only things I know how to do on a GBB pistol are installing a tightbore and installing an upgraded piston head.

I don't know anything which I am putting in to it yet. I want it to be 7" with a C-More on it.

Please help me come up with a parts list, but bare in mind that the only retailer I am going to order from is RedWolf, unless I really need something that they don't stock.

Thanks for linking me to that thread, however I've already read all of that.

What I'm looking for is a list of parts that have worked well for somebody else, such as a certain brand slide.

go airsoft surgeon slides :) lots of cool slides, if u planning on building a race pistol u prob go all out, check out the airsoft surgeon custom race guns they have they are really nice even tho over priced, something to get u thinkin

These videos were very helpful to me. I understand this guy knows a little bit about TM pistols :p

hey, im actually looking to build a race pistol off a TM hicapa 5.1, but I CANT FIND TM anywhere... I'm from toronto, you know where anywhere that i can find TM?

surebet February 7th, 2012 10:38

Easily, once you get age verified. No joke, all the models are in the classifieds new, and there are a shit load in the used section, including completed race guns.

jordan7831 February 7th, 2012 10:45

Hes not joking, I just took a quick look. There were at least 3-4 fully pimped out race guns in there.

ILLusion February 7th, 2012 11:55

If you're mobile, come to see me with photo ID, and I'll get you age verified as well as sell you a TM Hi-Capa 5.1...

Bullcrap, just like a pusher you know he'll be back for his weekly fix of ridiculously awesome parts. You selling HiCapas is ensnarement at it's best lol.

But in all seriousness mr. Stone78, take Illusion up on his offer. Not only a great guy, but he is pretty much the HiCapa reference in Canada and a known figure abroad, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have near by when doing a race build. Just pace yourself, with all the amazing HiCapa related stuff he has to offer it can get both really great and really expensive at the same time.

ILLusion February 7th, 2012 12:07

No need to pace yourself.... hehehehe....

stone78, are you the fellow that messaged me on YouTube?

I've read almost every single thread on ASC and Arnies regarding race pistols, and I've done a lot of research. What I really need now is a list of good parts so that I can build a pistol that's accurate, reliable and below 395 FPS.

Thank you for the replies so far, but is anyone able to help me come up with a list?

m102404 February 13th, 2012 09:13

You need to make some parts choices for yourself...and GBB's are more than finiky, so there's often no "magic parts list" to just drop in and say Tah-Da! Here it works.

Power
- tightbore
- longer inner
- high flow valve on mags
- tight air seal....good mag top seal -> nozzle seal...nozzle tip->hopup...etc...
- float valve weight and spring tension

Accuracy
- gas pressure consistency
- hopup
- inner barrel
- sear/hammer/trigger set

Performance
- weight of recoiling parts
- BBU piston head airseal
- recoil spring tension
- etc...

Reliability
- fit/strength of parts (knockers/disconnects/etc..)

Why not just build one from scratch?...

If you are going to go all out and replace pretty much everything, you might as well spend that little more (or rather, little less since you don't spend on the base pistol) and get upgraded parts for even the things that you don't replace.

Lycanthrope February 13th, 2012 13:58

Since I've never done more than installing a tightbore and a piston head I'm not confident in building it from scratch. Thanks for the advice M10,

Does anyone know a good brand of slide that I can buy that hopefully I won't need to modify?

You need a base pistol for a bunch of the parts.
You've been posting a lot of really bad or just plain wrong advice lately. I would advise you to shut up if you don't know anything about the subject(s).

I agree.

Lycanthrope February 13th, 2012 23:43

So as I was saying, what are the best brands for internals / slides / outer barrels / compensators / C More mounts.

Thank you

pewpew February 14th, 2012 00:15

Stay away pretty much anything 5ku. You save money yes, but you end up replacing it or wasting time trying to make things fit.

Shooters design/Illusion kinetics/airsoft surgeon are top notch brands.

Buy a slide set (slide/outer barrel/comp) made by the same brand if you want great fitment out of the box.

Lycanthrope February 14th, 2012 02:50

I just had a quick look but I can only find slide sets for guns other than the hi capa. The only ones for the hi capa are 5KU (Ones that aren't 350 USD)

No one said that building a race gun will be cheap, an average race that has been upgraded quite a lot tends to be around 500 USD,

avereage slide and frame sets do cost about 350, a normal slide will cost you about 80 - 150 USD depending what u want

then you got the grip, frame, trigger, internal parts which all add up

dont bother if you dont got the cash, and as ppl have been saying, stay away from 5KU, it is for people on a budget but you might as well save your money and buy something better in the future. however in terms of the extended magwells and compensators I guess they will be alright as they are more for aesthetic looks and not for performance

Lycanthrope February 14th, 2012 03:05

I worded that sentence wrong so sorry about that. I have the money, but what I meant is that I can only find one set which is 350 usd and IMO looks like crap.

Are there any sets I can get for a 4.3 with a compensator so that it will only be like 6" long? I prefer the look of a 4.3 to a 5.1.

well, most parts are made for the 5.1 tho there should be stuff for 4.3, Redwolf has the biggest collection of parts for upgrading stuff into race guns, if u have no seen their own raceguns they make, the airsoft surgeon custom ones? that go for like 1999 USD

those are crazy, comes with real steel C-More sights too!!

but yeah majority of the custom slides and frames u find will be fore the 5.1 and not 4.3

Very well. Then I won't post about things I don't know about.

Now....*shuts up*

Lycanthrope February 18th, 2012 16:21

Is airsoft surgeon a good manufacturer for things such as slides, compensators, lower frames, mag wells, cocking handles etc?

Agreed with the 5ku! I bought one of their light weight BBH, and well. It works after a bit of mods. But the internals gets loose quickly and isn't the greatest thing in the world. Pay the extra stuff and get it from Illusion. Forget the external stuff and focus on a good internal gun first.

Learning this as we speak with my build right now.

Lycanthrope February 19th, 2012 03:14

I don't think I can get stuff from Illusion as I live in New Zealand. If he ships overseas though and has a website or something where I can look at his products I'd be really interested in that.

ILLusion February 27th, 2012 05:21

I don't think I've ever posted anything that says that I don't export outside of Canada... just PM me. :)
