Holster troubles.

I'm a left handed shooter. It is a curse. A curse.

So I'm looking for a hard style lefthanded holster for my new KSC P226r

I'm thinking a Safari might be my only option only I've been unable to find a dealer for one in Canada.

I also want it to be Tan/CB or multicam.

So heres my questions.

Do a really have any other options other than Safari?

And for safari where can I get one and how does there system work. I see lots of numbers and codes I quite frankly don't understand.

First off, I'm a leftie too, and it aint a curse, but a gift, showing our capacity to adapt and prevail in a world designed by the inferior right-handed majority

Joke's aside, it depends on the type of holster you're looking for.

Belt mounted, MOLLE, drop leg ? hardshell or soft ?

You could go the Blackhawk Serpa way like I did (for my M9), and you also have these :

https://www.sealsactiongear.com/cata...?idProduct=578 Uncle Mike universal molle

https://www.sealsactiongear.com/cata...?idProduct=539 Seals 4.0 special ops

Hope this helps.

I was looking at a hard holster because before when I had a hi-capa I ran a soft holster and I couldn't leave the magazine in my gun else the holster would hit the mag release.

I'm worried that this will happen here. This is why I posted here I was looking for a hardshell holster. But if soft ones work aswell for the P226r I have no issues there.

Cobalt, you can get left handed Serpa holsters. You can always ask Huang nicely to see if he can get you something in a lefty.

Aegiis February 24th, 2012 00:19

Blackhawk Serpa. Can be belt mounted with the paddle, Molle mounted to your rig or a drop-leg platform with the adapter. Orientation can be modified too, so it can be straight up, or at an angle.

I've been running it for the past 2 seasons, and I'm still very satisfied.

viking9934 February 24th, 2012 00:28

buy a kydex sheet and make it yourself! will cost you less than a safarie land and you will be proud that you made your own hoster.

It's pretty easy to make if you have a minimum of skill with tools

Curo February 24th, 2012 00:28

I was hoping for a real holster. No offence to Huangs clones but for an extra 50 bucks or so real deal is worth it too me.

viking9934 February 24th, 2012 00:31

Kydex is not a ''huangs clone''. And you cant go more Real than making a custum holster that fit all your needs.

I did a quick google search. Where can I find Kydex sheets?

Styrak February 24th, 2012 00:43

SERPA!

Curo February 24th, 2012 00:49

And I'll keep options open. Who is a good serpa dealer. I found some at local surplus store but nothing for lefties/tan/p226 and to be honest I don't want to shop there again.

EDIT: I found 911gear, but they seem to only serve LE.. and as much as that is my dream career. I'm not there yet.

redneck12 February 24th, 2012 01:40

SEALS Action Gear sells the complete BlackHawk Serpa line up, but the left handed holsters are special order.

Curo February 24th, 2012 02:03

I'm going to go with the serpa and paint it or wrap part of it in mcnett camo wrap.

Thank you everyone for your help!

I had CDN_Stalker make me a Kydex MOLLE adapter for an originally-belt-mounted Safariland holster. Looks hella sweet. I'll snap a picture of it tonight.

I hate SERPAs because they tend to jam up if they get ANYTHING in their locking mechanism. I guess it depends what your playing style is, if you like to stay out of the dirt then go for it.

viking9934 February 24th, 2012 09:47

kydex sheet can be found at http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=41_54

and you can make it fit almost anything from blackhawk quick disconnect to safarieland one. even you can make your own belt loop from kydex.

Azathoth February 27th, 2012 16:02

This thread is a bit old but I would suggest a custom built Kydex Holster.

NVC on this forum VCBOY on edmontonairsoft.net (same person) makes custom holsters. It's solved my problem of "I own a Hicapa 4.3 with a surefire x300, M6, and TLR1s what holster fits"

You may need to send your gun and/or belt to him or send measurements. I do believe he owns a 226 blue gun for molds.

talon February 27th, 2012 18:02

fobus also makes lefty holsters.

I got my Safariland 6285 from CopsPlus in New York, as well as the sentry attachment.

The 6285 is the low ride version of the 6280 (5 indicates low ride) which in itself is the belt mounted version of the 6004.

I dunno, I've never had any of my Serpas lock up. Do you have any experience with that or are you just spouting internet rumors?

just some thing easily found on the web. some fact are true and other are depend on the user. but IMO the locking mechanism have some weakness. safaryland follow the best rule around : Keep it simple stupid.

Yes I've actually had a SERPA a few years back (drop-leg) where I was in fair amount of sand and when I went to extract my pistol, the button was incredibly difficult to activate.

MaybeStopCalling February 27th, 2012 20:12

I've never had any of my Serpas lock up, at all. If anything I'd be concerned with improper usage of the holster resulting in an ND, since some people press on the button with their fingertip rather than sliding their finger along it.

How much retention do you need? Have you tried uncle mikes?

Kydex holsters:

Reflex holsters:

Armyissue February 28th, 2012 01:40

I swear, God made 20% of people left handed,
but all of them are fkn shooters!

In Hard shell holsters you can go with Uncle Mikes in kydex they make a lot of left hands. Ex: 5420 - 1. the 4 digit code is style and pistol model but the - 1 designates right hand 5420 - 2 designates Left and the 5420 - 0 indicates ambidextrous. most are available for about 30-40 bucks.

Condor makes a MOLLE soft nylon holster thats ambidextrous, for $25 and any right handed holster will work for a leftty as long as the barrel lines up withthe crack of your ass. get used to it, the rear draw is less conventional but your left handed thats not new to you.

The first story you linked isn't even about dirt in the mechanism but OK.

Careful with LAPG, there are a bunch of brands they won't ship internationally now.

OP, I believe Hamilton Tactical carries the BHI Serpa. I don't know if they're still around though. I got my Serpa on clearance from LAPG a while ago and they did have the level 2 in left hand for the 226 at the time. Word of caution though, my KJW 226 had some fitting issues at first with the trigger guard catching on the Serpa lock instead of engaging it, as well as the slide rubbing on the inside of the holster itself. A few holstering drills fixed the serpa lock issue, and a little bit of sandpaper helped with the slide fit. Still a snug fit, but tight is better than loose with a holster. Just make sure that you are able to draw and reholster smoothly. I read that some people had the same issue with the serpa local not engaging and were able to have it exchanged until they found one that fit properly. The issue is that there is a little bit of an edge/extra material on the end of the locking mechanism that catches on the serrated trigger guard of the 226 resulting in the serpa lock not engaging on the inside of the trigger guard.

talon February 28th, 2012 18:41

well, in the last 2 years I was able to get FOBUS stuff, not sure if it's changed since then. in any case, good to know, thanks
