Why do all the young airsofters want snipers?

I recently visited Buyairsoft in red deer and there was a ton of kids aged 10-14 buying airsoft guns with the money in there parents wallet. every single one of them wanted a sniper, and of course, every single one of them wanted the one with the highest FPS. I highly doubt any of them were going to go play an organized skirmish with them, most of them looked like plinkers. so why not just get a BB gun? I dont get it!

why do you guys think snipers attracked the young crowd so much?

Cuz it's s0 c00l to be a super sniper like in COD, obviously

Since when does that store actually sell snipers? Isn't that human trafficking?

ViR July 30th, 2012 22:12

Because they are too scared to face the enemy up close..

redzaku July 30th, 2012 22:12

they are also fearing pain as well, plus they also want to do some stupid things at far distance without getting in trouble

Derpnation July 30th, 2012 22:16

Because in their mind their thinking they wont get hit with a bb and they will get to be sneaky and look cool but fuck them there all getting vsr-10s it seems because its pretty cheap. All of my friends like snipers and play quite often i cant wait to get a temp ka m4a1 to use against them so i can make them never want to brag about their snipers again.

I don't get that either. If they wanted a pro BB gun for plinking the Remington Airmaster is only like $150 at most and is way more accurate than any airsoft gun by nature of shooting at 495 FPS and using heavy .177 match pellets. Hell the Crosman Nitro Venom's are pretty sharp looking too and only come in at under $200, slap on a good optic onto the Nitro and sight it in and it could be a real tack driver.

If they want to game it then it's not my problem, just means more kills for me since I can probably outrange their stock rifles with my AEG.

pugs144 July 30th, 2012 22:37

For the first couple of days kids absolutely adore their snipers, then reality sets in. They see that the caring and feeding of a sniper is a big responsibility. They find that when not sniping, snipers like to sleep in nice comfy beds like the rest of us. Then there's trips to the range, trips to the strip bar, daddy's $400 bottle of scotch disappearing...and you can't just flush 'em down the toilet either.

And I would not blame that game for the abnormal amount of Teens that want "Sniper rifles" there are also the movies and TV shows along with other games to blame (and the two sequels to that specific game aswell, not so much that one itself).

Quickscoping...its all the rage among kids. Fucking retarded concept

JerryMcGoulBerry July 30th, 2012 23:41

I remember that mission. you use an M21. I admit, it was pretty badass. but I do agree that the whole "I'm good at it in MW2, why not airsoft? is totally stupid.

I laugh at people who always rage about getting the high fps weapons, AEG or rifle alike. Totally not needed as long as you have a good hop-up and you actually KNOW how to shoot. I like the quick scoping remark by ap27. Cracked me up..

Don't forget doing a 360 before you quickscope. If you "hard scope" you're a try hard or a noob. Clearly that wasn't why sniper classes were put in the game.

lurkingknight July 31st, 2012 10:04

cause airsoft noobs think that because real sniper rifles have huge range, airsoft snipers should have huge range.

sniper roles have been romanticized throughout movie and gaming culture. That's the bottom line.

I totally agree - the role has been "played-up" way too much. The majority of kids are cowards today. I remember playing speed-ball (indoor paintball) with teenagers and they thought I was mad charging up our left flank to get the snake. All they did was moan and sit in the back of the field.

Its the canadians that were called the storm troopers, Thats the Nickname the Germans gave the canadians because of how fast they took land.

You got me, I've heard all kinds of other weird slang for canadians (ladies from hell, for example) but I thought storm troopers was a german thing.

Freeze July 31st, 2012 18:29

they like sniper rifles because.....the COD is strong with this one....

On that note....I've always been more of a pistol guy than a rifle guy. I gujess I just like my small guns

Off course..... is not like your profile name is Snipetek and your avatar a sniper lol

And yes, German shock troopers are also known as storm troopers. I was specifically referring to those of the 1918 offensive :P

Andre_1999 August 1st, 2012 02:52

well lets start with video games... COD &BF3, for me I like being close in the action, like a m4 or gbb subs

I actually hold a PAL and shoot long guns for distance - I also use to formally compete in small caliber shooting and was asked to join our national team for biathlon based out of Canmore, AB. So I suppose snipetek is a fitting name for me. As far as playing airsoft? It's not even close to what being a real marksmen is. At the end of the day it's plastic and we're playing army...

acidpunk August 1st, 2012 12:42

when i played more i would carry both(primary and long rifle). and still didint use it that much. the only time the long rifle was my primary was in a set"mission" at a milsim, or dicking around.

Hey there is nothing wrong with wearing a kilt during a game. it freaks/disturbs some people, but to bad for them.

Derpnation August 1st, 2012 12:55

What bugs me is the fact younger players and even some older players have no concept of safety and it really bugs me i mean i was taught by my parents since i could speak dont point guns unless you are sure you want to hurt it or if there is some sort of protection and that isn't little safety glasses that's full seal. It's sad though because little story here there was a kid about a year ago and he is a year or two younger than me and im 16 but anyways he was putting a loaded pellet gun away and he shot himself up his nose and lived and is lucky because living that is slim. the pellet barley missed a main artery and he was flown out to have surgery to get the lead pellet out of his skull because it was in the fluid in his skull but he lost his vision after an attempt and they said if they did it again he would probably be killed and its sad though because he has to live with it now and can only be out for half a day and after that he has to sleep.

Sturmtruppen .. assault troops .. every army has them

the word Storm Troops comes from an error in translation, Sturm means both Storm and Assault

Sniper.. cold hearted slayer, all the other soldiers kinda stay clear of him.. because he's soo cool, and he tends to remain aloof, because you know .. all those regular guys are just not in his league.

what 14 year old boy would not want to play that guy?

jomor August 1st, 2012 17:59

Ladys

Ladys from Hell was for our Highlanders. It was really the Germans who were first coined as Stormtroopers and was a miss quote. We had an amazing ability in Trench raiding we were feared by the "HUNS" for our raiding!

Dusk August 9th, 2012 11:29

reeeeel

most kids think sniping is going to be much more exciting than it really is. they dont understand what sniping is all about. most kids get these guns thinking they are gunna rack up a ton of kills because of video games and movies, when in reality they get outshot because they are running in too close. i have a sniper on my team (brad/lumberjack) who goes games without firing his gun because he does a snipers real job in airsoft. recon and cover. ive played games where he would sit up on a hill and be my UAV/anna grimsdottir for the entirety of the game telling us of enemy movements and numbers. i want to hear more "Dusk i see three guys moving on your left, they see you be careful, also the guys in front of you are on thier last clips" rather than "dont worry i got him....:infantry:....sorry i missed" CoD kids.

it also doesn't help that snipers are usually cheaper than AeGs lmao.
thank the media for ruining the sniper scene.

Kingsix August 9th, 2012 12:53

I could have sworn there was a similar thread many years back on the same topic.....

Cifyra August 11th, 2012 21:04

The same reason most 14 year olds pick the bolt action sniper class in any first person shooter game. At this rate, if there is a musket class that shoots 3 rounds per minute, they'll probably eat that right up too. If more games were like ArmA2, then this wouldn't happen.

they should make a Call of Duty: Colonial Warfare

And then kiddies will want to all stand in a line and wait their turn to fire at the opposite line of soldiers

I thought there already was a game like that called Mount and Blade Napoleonic Wars..... But I guess it doesn't have the COD franchise attached to it.

There's also the Battlegrounds mod for HL2.

For me though, I picked the total opposite of a bolt action sniper rifle for my first real airsoft rifle; I got a TM MP5K...

Gerkraz August 11th, 2012 22:32

Maybe you should be asking why all the old airsofters want a Robert Goulet?

RaisinBran August 12th, 2012 00:18

Civil war airsoft, muzzle loading airsoft rifles, shoots one bb at a time, inaccurate, only 250 fps.

200+ people...now that would be fun.

dj2l8b August 12th, 2012 04:13

I live in the UK and its funny that i see kids with long Long ass sniper rifles running around and barely get a shot off and half way through the day they change to other weapons that are more practical. Also they think they have soo much range but actually they dont! Unlike US and Canada we are limited to 350fps on all Aegs and 500fps on bolt actions

At least you're not in RoI where IIRC it's 1 Joule or 330 FPS (not sure if that applies to NI as well; kinda weird rules all around).

By your logic, a WW1 First person shooter will sell very well to the youngins

Danke August 12th, 2012 11:27

I once played a game in Kelowna with about 7-9 new snipers. It was a slaughter, one of them would pop up like a gopher to take a a shot and get mowed down by a half dozen hot AEGs.

Fun for us and I hope educational for them.

lurkingknight August 12th, 2012 11:48

it even takes a bit of work to properly use a scoped dmr as I found out recently, though it might just be a matter of practice and lack of cover fire from teammates... first time running a magnification optic, shouldering and hitting the eye relief quickly is super hard... not to mention having a barrel/gun that's twice the length I'm used to.

Danke August 12th, 2012 11:52

That's where a variable zoom optic pays off. It lets you dial down the magnification & increase your field of view. Then you're not peering through a tunnel.

lurkingknight August 12th, 2012 13:20

yeah, the variable is nice, but on my scope the eye relief window gets smaller the higher the magnification you go... at lowest 1.25x the eye relief zone is huge, but at 5x you have to be exactly a certain distance from it to get a good picture.

Ross August 12th, 2012 13:59

because they look cool.

Well they like to run into machine gun fire anyway thinking they're Rambo, so perhaps there is no difference between climbing out of a trench only to get mowed down by a machine gun and running through an urban environment?

Not with a decent optic, With a good one you just run the dial and the eye relief stays the same.
