Elite 8.4v 1500mah shall do the trick. If your only getting 2-3 mags like you said there's really no need for anything bigger.

Styrak October 30th, 2012 00:40

Don't they only fit mini packs?

So, a mini pack. 8.4v (not sure if they fit 9.6v? If they do, get a 9.6v)

bug519 October 30th, 2012 07:52

I use a 9.6 mini. It fits just right as long as it's not fully collapsed.

danceswithpellets October 30th, 2012 16:35

thanks bug!

Whats the performance difference between the two? will I be outgunned with an 8.4?

scubasteve October 30th, 2012 18:19

Higher rate of fire with a 9.6 compared to the 8.4

More confused by this lipo business as I read.

So I can fit a 9.6 mini hey? Maybe Ill just get two of those and bring the backup for milsims and stuff.

7.4 lipos supposedly pack great punch and last in cold weather- thats pretty alluring though. I could probably run one of these alright, yes?

Just need a circuit/no blow up gun thingy and an appropriate charger from what Ive read.

Yes, a balance charger (e.g. the ubiquitous B6) and a Li-Po alarm that beeps if the cell voltage drops too low (fire hazard).

I'd suggest Turnigy nanotech from HobbyKing for the 7.4V (2S) batteries and voltage alarm.

BennyBoy October 31st, 2012 01:34

the VFC Scars have pretty good rate of fire too :)

Mandalore November 1st, 2012 19:59

If you decide lipo, this is what I run in mine: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...SOFT_Pack.html

Fits great, works great, and super cheap!
I highly suggest you do a little research, they are beyond worth it, I pretty much only run lipos now.

mr_nuts31 November 1st, 2012 21:07

I can only fit a 9.6v nimh nunchuck max inside the VFC SCAR. I recommend using a 7.4 lipo since it would give you plenty of room and descent power.

Beyond choosing a battery, it's also a good idea to replace the original VFC wires with something a bit more flexible. The original wiring is somewhat under-gauge, and too stiff - it always gets caught in that mechanism for adjusting the stock's length.

7.4 lipo sounds great. thanks all for the links that makes it way easier.

But but but if you us a Lipo it will blow up. Everybody you know will die towns will burn and Barbarians will rape and pillage! lol Sorry just had some Rye and Monster.

+1 to hobbyking dirt cheap prices cant go wrong.

PrIeSt November 2nd, 2012 08:54

Lol. Steve. Myth buster disproved that. Lipos only explode when cute puppies are near by as to increase carnage.

Lipos the way to go. Just don't be a dummy. They won't explode on discharge unless they are shorted. But any battery will explode over that reason.

danceswithpellets November 2nd, 2012 15:07

If what Ive read is correct......

$5 low voltage alarm to go with the unit in the gun so I dont discharge

Decent charger as previously suggested from hobbyking(charge in the garage away from flammables)

And a 7.4 lipo should fit in my scar and give me similiar performance to a 9.6 nimh?? I dont want anything crazy just something that fits well and doesnt ruin my gun.

Am I on track?

SuperHog November 2nd, 2012 15:26

The 9.6V will still get you more motor revs. The 7.4V may be lighter with the same amperage rating. 11.1V will give you the best performance.

Lipo alarms is just that, a alarm. Get one that has the ability to warn you when it hits higher than 3.3V. AEG's can pull the voltage below the safe 3V, the point of no return. Once the alarm sounds, STOP.

Charging in your garage unattended will still burn down your house. I have my Lipo packs sitting inside ceramic bowl elevated off the table surface with another ceramic tile. If the Lipo bursts, nothing to burn but itself. Keep an extinguisher around. I had a Lipo go into flames last year.

danceswithpellets November 2nd, 2012 16:58

Heheheh doesn't make it sound super appealing. Hmm... If the 7.4 doesn't give 9.6 nimh performance maybe I'll just stick with 9.6 nimh

SuperHog November 2nd, 2012 17:49

NiMH is a good way to start then as you ready then go Lipo. You can run the NiMH unit it is to low to cycle you gun without damage to the battery.

Make sure have a second battery.

danceswithpellets November 3rd, 2012 02:09

I'm gonna pick one and stick with it so i don't have to buy chargers + batteries twice.

Assuming a7.4 lipo doesn't give me the performance of a 9.4 nimh and I'm not gonna go 11.1lipo then its 9.4nimh for me by the sound of it

SuperHog November 3rd, 2012 11:40

A single multi chemistry charger do all different batteries. The price goes upwards for those that charge at high amperages and sometimes 12S Lipos at one time.

For airsoft use, you can pick up a muli purpose charger for less than $30. Don't get those $10 automatic black transformer looking chargers. A decent one allow you to program it with a LCD display.

NiMH is older technology and prices will be higher than Lipo although easier maintenance. I have gone MOSFET and Lipo on all my AEG in the last little while.

NiMH has no memory, so is a good starter power source with out the worry of Lipo.
