Do i... MOSFET w/ VFC 416 CQB + 11.1v ??
Hey ASC
I heard running an 11.1v Lipo in my VFC 416 CQB (2012) might mess things up with the electronics... I shoot Semi 90% of the time - double taps or quick 2-3 shots On Full-auto 3-4 round bursts Question - Do i need a MOSFET unit? - Any other suggestions ? 60-70$ (budget) -- The Burst Avocado MOSFET, has anyone used it? and/or had the opportunity to compare to other MOSFET units? http://www.torontoairsoft.com/Burst-...it_p_1640.html Thank you :salute: *exits stage left* |
If you're using semi most of the time, you will need a mosfet especially with the 11.1
When you're shooting on semi there will be arcing every time you pull the trigger, on auto this only happens when you pull the trigger. |

I don't like the burst avacado, I've heard some disappointing things about them from some gun builders. The gate units are not bad.
What are your goals for the gun? if it's strictly to prevent burning up of trigger contacts, a basic fet unit is all you need. I personally don't like active braking because of the motor wear, and I have this feature turned off on my computerized units. Beyond active braking, do you need: rate of fire control? burst fire mode? voltage detection to prevent over draining of lipos? What are you trying to do now and later? If all you're doing is putting in a 11v lipo and don't care about anything else, you can buy a 20-30$ unit... if you want to get fancy with your build for maximum trigger response or not worry about sucking lipos dry, not everyone needs a fancy computerized mosfet. A basic fet with a built in poly fuse will do. This eliminates the bulky stock fuse and replaces it with a self resetting thermal fuse.. it gets too hot, the circuit breaks until it cools down. Extreme-fire has a basic poly fet, I think gate makes one as well... but if you have 60-70$ and you're planning further upgrades like a lower ratio gearset or a stronger motor, you really should look at the computerized units, guns tend to shoot high rate of fire when you start messing with motors and gears, and having a computerized unit to slow it back down is handy. |
Yeah
It's really as of this moment to not burning things up.. Thx guys! |
You always need a mosfet, in any gun, there's too many benefits to not have one lol
If you're interested, I have an old triggermaster MKIII for sale! =) |
Get the Gate MERF 3.2 that Stealth has posted a picture of. Best bang for your buck.
|
I also vouch for the MERF 3.2 I have been using it and it is a great MOSFET. I specially like the ROF control, let's me have great trigger response (using "Smart Trigger" option) and the ability to decrease ROF as desired

Vfc 416
I'm butting in here....
I'm about to get a VFC 416 and would like to know if it's lipo ready right out of the box. I will end up getting that mosfet shown as well for burst but I just need to know about the lipo readiness? Thanks |
All my guns have mosfets in them and I got them all from HH airsoft. Which is having a 30% off sale right now.

Funny thing is, I have used an 11.1 on my G&G SCAR-L for 20k+ BBs, most of which have been fired on semi, and my contacts are purty. No FET.
I have the MERF for my M4 as the contacts were still in great condition, but I had the odd full auto spray on semi using only a 7.4 lipo. Maybe I have been lucky. This said, the safest way is to use a FET regardless. |

I've seen people run a 9.6 large for 3 years and their contacts were bronzed and only slightly dirty
I've also seen people run a 9.6 large for 3 months and either the contacts were so dirty they didnt conduct anymore or the trigger block had melted. Regardless of anyone's past experience with throw-switch triggers and high voltage, it's ALWAYS a good idea to install a mosfet on anything 9.6v or above, 7.4v LiPo, and any setup you want more energy efficiency |
I've already ran about 4000 bb's maybe 3200 on semi on my new VFC 416 with the 11.1v
when the new MOSFET comes in. And the gun is in pieces. (maybe in a few weeks) ((im still going to shoot)) Can i snoop in another 1000 rounds? :D - Is there a threshold of use it can endure before performance start to deteriorate? - -Can the "muck" be cleaned off? Restoring the contacts. :oO: |
You can always clean the contacts, it's not a big issue on semi, although semi causes more arcing than full so it fouls faster.
But long full auto bursts cause the trigger block to melt. |
lipo ready is a BS marketing term.
all guns blow up, it's a matter of how soon you want it to blow up. any gun can run a 7.4 lipo... that's not any more stressful than a 9.6 nimh. Be lazy with trigger pulls and you'll burn your contacts faster, pull fast and with purpose, it won't arc as much. If you want to do 20-35 rps mag dumps with 11.1v lipos all day long, then we're talking some custom work... no gun can deal with that. At the very lease a good shim job, sorbo and aoe adjustment. I like vfc guns, I hate their self shimming gears. pulling the spring collars off makes them even weirder to shim, and I'd just as soon pull the gear set and put in a different one just so I can shim it right. I just worked on a vfc 416, it's going to run 7.4s on a lonex a1 for the next little while, I tried to shim those gears but in the end, decided that it was best to just leave the self shimming junk in there, the piston showed no signs of wear or PE, it's just the self shimming stuff drags the gear train and seems be noisy in general compared to a well shimmed box. Other than that, it seems to work, but you're telling me that tiny little spring can hold the torque of an aeg motor? yeah no. The one thing the vfc gears seem to have going for them is that they are fucking WIDE. That's probably why the self shimming gears don't blow up.. it's because they're so damn wide the gear mesh can be sloppy and still be ok. |

Just kidding, mine just melted on a test build. |

On the topic of BS marketing terms, I love that Marui put "SEALS" on the SIG 552....Seals don't use assault rifles, but maybe they should...to fight off polar bears... |
When will we have these things setup to stop trigger bouncing :( Stupid micro triggers.
|
Just convert to full auto only on a button switch already =p
Eventually someone like you (hint hint) will build an optic board like the PTW to fit in a P90 so we can all have 3mm trigger pulls! Cause the P90 and AUG triggers are just the worst things ever. I dunno how anyone deals with them -_- |
I have a fet in thé p90 it's the Acr I can't get one in.
