Mag Stuck - WE 1911
I have a WE 1911 and two mags. Both have functioned flawlessly until today. Now one of them will not slide out when I push the mag release. I have to pry it out with relatively considerable force. The other functions fine.
I spent a half an hour looking them over and they look identical. Anything specific that would be causing it, or something I should be looking for? I even tried lubing it a bit - no go. Thanka for the help gang, all the best. |
Maybe there is dirt in the mag well. Try wiping it down with a paper towel. You can also inspect the problematic mag for wear spots which would give an indication of something is causing a lot of friction inside the gun.
|
if the mag got overheated in the sun, or left in a hot car, it could have buldged ... if this is the cause .. the mag is toast
|
Check all the pins, if one has slid out even 1/8 of a millimeter its enough for your mag to get stuck.
|
What pins am I checking? I don't think it swelled, it's all metal and my calipers show no difference in dimensions. I will try wiping it down - also, it feeds and fires fine, but after the fourth shot the slide lock kicks in, then it's good for the rest of the mag. Does that hint at anything?

It would function fine just would be hard/imposible to remove or insert. Happened to two of my gemtech oasis mags. The bulged out like so () instead of being like || so the could be forced in and wer very hard to remove. The gun being plastic made it easier to remove/insert but on a metal frame esopecially if the grip portion has voids in it itll be tough to remove.
If you left it gassed and in your car or in direct sun the mag has likely swolen up. Removing it will be hard. Mine wer only bulged out about a mm wider then what they shoulda been butbit was enough to make insertion hard and removal even harder. I was able to fix the mags using a vise to flaten them but have scince replaced them. |

I didnt know mags could bulge out. Hm maybe thats why Ive bought guns with really poor fitting mags. Interesting.
|
Poor fitting how? Too tight? Then yes likely swolen. Too loose? Likely we or kjw lmao. Not that its bad i mean the rattle/slop in my kjw m9 is about the same as a real m9

Believe it or not, I bled out the gas in the mag and it slides in and out perfectly, but if I fill it right up it gets stuck. Wtf are the gas tanks in the mags made of that lets them expand and contract to such a significant degree?
|
Could always place the magazine between two thick sheets or bars of steel and give it a bit of a love tap with a hammer, might set it back right... although this would be a last resort of course.
The mag gas reservoir is most likely made out of pot metal. |
I shall try that for sure.
I have screwed something else up... I suck at this... I emptied the gas in my mags from the valve at the back of the mag (which I believe I shouldn't have done) now I only get like 6 rounda before I'm out of gas... did I ruin something? Is there any way to fix it or do I need new mags? |
Most likely froze the oring at the top (where the gas is released when you shoot). I'm not an expert, but you may be able to intentionally soak it in silicon oil to swell it a bit. If that doesn't work or I'm mistaken, you'll need to replace the oring.
Maybe other people can help you further, as I said I'm not a pro on this subject. |
Ah, cool. Thanks for the thought, hopefully someone else can chime in as well
|
Fill it up with gas, put it in water and check where the gas is leaking from. Empty the mag of gas, disassemble the leaking valve and soak the o-ring in silicon oil overnight as K3vX said. Reassemble and it should be good to go.
