So, Halloween's coming up

Hello Airsoft Canada,

I'm thinking, Halloween's coming up and I don't have a costume, but my friends and I do have some tactical gear. I have seen half a dozen people at our school do "tactical" load outs last year, including some guy wearing a full gillie suit.

What do you think about wearing tactical gear to school (without any weapons)? It abides with our school dress code and there isn't any legal problems with it, as far as I know. The closest thing we may be infringing upon would be impersonating a police officer, but we don't wear any insignia or POLICE labels. (we could say we are impersonating a team from x movie or game)

Just to clarify: By tactical gear I mean:
-different BDU (not CADPAT) shirt and pants
-Regular Hiking shoes
-plate carrier (with chocolate bars in place of magazines)
-plain o'l mechanix gloves

We are not going to bring or wear any:
-mask
-goggles
-holster
-magazine
-military unit or insignia patches
-ranks
-airsoft guns (including clearsoft, cansoft or neon colored)
-anything that can be seen as a weapon, ie rubber knife, grenades.

I am also thinking about wearing a helmet or patrol cap, but I'm afraid it will draw too much negative attention.

What do you guys think? I think gear is just gear, wearing fabric isin't be illegal just because is 1000d cordura or printed with camo. Still, I'm gonna ask the Airsoft community here to be safe, given the current political situation I don't want to be the one that gets Airsoft banned (like Tim from Airsoft GI always says). So,do you think it should be fine for us?

MaybeStopCalling October 20th, 2013 00:03

When in doubt, don't do it. I'd say do it at someone's party, but not school.. definitely not school.

_Whiskey_ October 20th, 2013 00:15

Personally I wouldn't. With schools and teachers these days it wouldn't be worth it. Party at a friends place however I see nothing wrong with that.

PrIeSt October 20th, 2013 00:25

Ask your school....

True, I really should of thought of that first haha

J-Man19 October 20th, 2013 00:55

It's halloween, girls will be dressed like sluts and nothing will be said. Personally I'd go for it. No weapons, no problems.

L473ncy October 20th, 2013 00:55

Can't kids these days think of something original? Something that will get you laid other than "oh some kid who plays too much CoD".

I can think of so many other costumes than something tactical from "CoD" or whatever.

What about Ryu from Street Fighter? Batman? Ghostrider? Iron Man? Scarface? Robin Hood? Dracula? Optimus Prime? Bumble Bee?

For girls, just add the word sexy to any occupation or noun and it's all good; sexy firewoman, sexy police officer, sexy cat, sexy nurse, sexy nun, sexy detective, etc.

This year though, I'm going as a "sexy cowboy" (like Jeff Winger in Community).

tl;dr, If you want to get laid maybe think of something else that's unique and original. Girls will be all over you then.

EchoFourTwelve October 20th, 2013 01:01

This year im gonna be a tetris piece! :D

ccyg8774 October 20th, 2013 10:32

This year I will be a nerd stays at home surfing the internet… Oh wait…

Well, at least that will be couple's Halloween costumes for me and my girlfriend.

coach October 20th, 2013 17:04

I remember back in the day when I was in either grade 2 or 3, and it was cool to put a vest on with a sheriff's badge and wear a holster with a black and brown cap gun or squirt gun. then your best friend wore his mom's best combination of stuff to look like an Indian with a plastic axe or mini bow and arrow or all black with a mask and a full black sack...

Wrath144 October 20th, 2013 17:32

It's not a costume if it's something you regularly do. This includes sports gear, airsoft, and especially work uniforms.

Petro October 21st, 2013 09:00

Really, has it come this far that kids are scared to dress up in an army costume for Halloween? If that's what you want to go as, then do it. As long as you're not bringing in a weapon with it I don't see the issue. My son has gone as an army guy 2x and now my daughter wants to be one this year. If either of them are/would ever sent home because of that I'd raise bloody hell with not only the principal, but also the superintendent.

Reaver_RRTS October 21st, 2013 09:27

In college I went dressed up in my complete paintball gear, had my mask tied to my waist though. Got several comments on it being unique lmao

Aper October 21st, 2013 09:36

I remember back in the days in high school at Halloween, I once dressed up in a Graffiti-like pattern; Paint overall, my painting mask, 3-4 Montana paint cans (still full haha), my personnal cap with my my tag name (Aper), big-ass chrome headphones and latex gloves.

I came across this police car when I was walking to my bus stop from school; checked my papers / ID card and carried on.

Strelok October 21st, 2013 09:59

A friend of mine went as a ww2 german soldier (Down to the patches...) and was able to get away with it.

I agree with the above: ask your school, and/or just forget it.

Cardboard and duct tape are your friends :) I remember helping a roomie in university make a dalek costume in about 2 hours with just cardboard, duct tape, tinfoil, and a whack of those chocolate gold coins....jerk got attention all night :)

Your friendly neighborhood Value Village is a source of GREAT costume materials on the cheap! For $20 I found a black hoodie, cape, pants, a plastic sythe, and a small plastic skeleton. I went as the grim reaper; with the skeleton over my shoulder and a small sign saying "you're next Bieber!"

That's pretty sad considering. But then again, people go as Satan, and no one seems to care.

I agree with, "no weapons, no problem". There's nothing inappropriate or offensive about the military, and anyone who tells you different is a communist, ...or a hippie.

drk242 October 23rd, 2013 14:32

my kids schools outlawed costumes .... now its black and orange day, soon fallowed with red and green winter break
farce when did dressing up scary become so evil. lol

Ricochet October 23rd, 2013 14:37

That's why as a nation we have to stop making decisions based off of people feelings. lol

I heard rumors about this... can't believe it actually happened. If my kid wanted to dress up I'd let them and spend the day at school with them. Parents need to start telling schools to fuck off about stupid shit like this.

Ricochet October 23rd, 2013 17:15

It's not the schools who start this shit, it's certain demographics of parents; trust me.

hollywood... October 23rd, 2013 18:08

fuck it,...
be original.
I dressed up as a hooker one year in my girlfriends sister's shit (pics are fucking hilarious)
I had stitches and a black eye from a puck 3 days prior.

I ended up meeting every girl in the bar and had a blast!

J-Man19 October 23rd, 2013 18:19

bar =/= school. However OP would probably have less of a hassle if he did dress up as a hooker instead of a soldier.

justinC October 23rd, 2013 18:36

I know this is only a costume and there is not going to be a gun

but with the recent school shooting it seems in bad taste.

that being said if you do it and you get in trouble make sure your parents make a big enough fuss about it to get on the evening news

just my opinioin

I offer up a job (not really) in policy and strategic studies if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

it's the crusaders for everyone else... MY GOD, I DON'T TAKE ISSUE WITH THIS, BUT SOMEONE ELSE WHO HASN'T SAID A DAMN WORD MIGHT, WE SHOULD BAN IT.

Sequential October 24th, 2013 00:38

You could have done this 10 years ago. Today probably not.

Fuck I'm getting too old...

SuperHog October 24th, 2013 13:55

Full miltary outfit and chest rig does not look like a costume. Going as batman or spiderman is a costume.

I hope if you do decide to go miltary you will leave the pistol holster off and no magazines in the pouches.

And even if you clear it with the school which I doubt you will, neighbours in the surrounding house could still call the police. You may want to visit all the houses along your route to school and let them know also.

K3vX October 24th, 2013 14:41

I thought the real point of Halloween was to disguise as something you WOULD LIKE to be, but CANNOT be in real life/rest of the year.

I'd love to be a hitman/contractor, but hey, for obvious reasons I cannot be. So that's what I'll run this year. Full suit, "subtle" body armor that isn't subtle for the point of the costume, syringes, tie-wrap restrains.

No, I will not run a pistol. But I damn wish I could.

You are 18+. If you think a military loadout is a halloween disguise, while there are hundreds other more harmless looking costumes, your choice.

Don't forget the lower skull mesh with your helmet, the public will really like that.

They do sell military-themed disguises at disguises shops for children.

I am not the one disguising myself as a soldier. If someone wants to play soldier, it should not be different than playing a firefighter, batman or a whore.

And like you said, my choice. *Your* opinion shouldn't affect what is a disguise.

The school and other massacres in the news were not by the killer wearing a firefighter, batman or whore costume with an assault weapon.

Society has changed, so those soldier costumes are no longer accepted. Just use common sense.

Agent 47 or what?

Damn.... now I kind of want to do an Altair or Ezio outfit....

Just simply put on zombie mask/make-up, add some fake blood and have your friends throw flour at you - then you have a nice halloween costume.

Not much of a costume as I see people in full BDU's downtown all the time, then again it is downtown and I do work near CAMH.
