SystemA AR15 series... what happened?
This just came to me while working today...
what ever happened to those super realistic SystemA ARs? gone? bad? noone cares? take it away... |
You talking about the SystemA Professional Training Weapon System?
They still make em, but no one really wants to drop $2000 + on an AEG. WGC has them for US$1025.00, so your looking at pretty close to $2000 if not more by the time you can buy them here. I'd rather buy 4 TM AEGs for that. |
I have one. Awesome gun. Thats it
|
They're nice, but NOT worth 2 grand.
|
The Systema gun's I was fuckin around with cost like $1300 IIRC. For $2000 I'd buy a real gun or 3.
|
Blasty,
Could you elaborate a little bit? or is 'that's it' ... it? I was looking at all the things i wanted to get on a AR15 system... Marui + systemA body + mechbox + stock.... and it comes close to 2000$ anyways... Which is better? (looking at 400fps) |
There's a new generation of Systema PTW systems out (I believe there was even a video posted here a little while ago about the new ones)
Apparently they're extremely nice, but are currently only for release to military/law enforcement for training. Construction is supposed to be fantastic, part quality the same. Magazines are designed to electrically cut off the supply of power to the mechbox when the magazine is empty, simulating the need to reload (and the true function of a gun). Swapping to change spring power is also apparently ridiculously easy, since the piston/spring/cylinder sets come pre-built, and to change from say 450 fps, to 320fps would merely require you field stripping the gun partially (as per a real armalite), pulling the cocking rod, sliding the one piston/cylinder set out, and sliding the other, lower powered one in. AFAIK, the parts are [almost?] all compatible with actual armalite parts too (barring the body/internals) so any external mods can use real parts. This is all what I gleaned from reading, and from the video. |
any idea where that video went? hmmm... *looks at search button*
edit: here it is: http://www.zshot.com/videos/ |

on the ICS, the whole upper mechbox comes out, whereas the Systema PTW's, just the cylinder comes out, and it much more compact then carrying an extra upper mechbox around with you. Imagine being able to carry all 3 cylinders on you, and being able to change the range of your gun in seconds, even during a fire fight. why buy 3-4 TM's when you can buy 1 PTW and have 3 guns in one? And an extremely sweet one at that.
|
Also, the trigger mechanism is like that of the PSG-1, so it fires the instant you pull the trigger, unlike most AEGs that take time to wind up the motor.
|
i got a gen 1 version and although awesome, some have had trouble with the switch shorting out.. so far no problems here and awesome fit and finish and tough as nails.

That is not true at all. The piston is still pulled back when you pull the trigger. Due to the planetary gear system it may seem to take less time but it still has to wind up persay. I must say its a very elegant gun it how it feels and how the mechanics of its internals work. But in the end it still an AEG. When I want the best performing AEG I have ever owned I never would reach for the PTW. The first choice would be my M14 Hands down. It also has a very intricant and well performing mechanism. Beautiful trigger pull, outstanding accuracy, The thing seems to hum like a Finely Crafted watch. Maybe if the upgrade kits for the PTW are not too expensive ( I got word they are due out anyday) I will get the kit to take my Gen1 to a Gen 3. Then maybe just maybe I will start to use the PTW again. heh |
The problem with switching out the cylinder assembly is that you have to retune the hopup. Every change you make involves opening the gun up, so it's a pretty intensive process.

Not really. Pulling the cylinder is as easy as sliding the rear pin out pulling the charging handle putting the new one in. Retuning the hopup is not a huge issue. Just an allen key in the magwell like many bolt action guns. But I know what you mean. You are not going to swap cylinders in a firefight and proceed to tune your hopup. But its still a pretty painless process. Still beats the heck out of any other AEG spring change. Even if your not changing cylinders and just changing the spring its a very easy process only a few sec's longer since you need to unscrew the back of the cylinder change springs and screw it back on. |
This really sounds like a great system, especially when you want a system that works for Close Quarter and outside engagements. I'm really getting interested in this system. I wish someone in Montreal would have one... arg.

I've just about sold myself on it with this idea and the fact its 'pre-upgraded' systema FMU everything. If you look at it from a value stand-point, its actually a good deal. Its worthy of noting for those not aware that it uses proprietary internals and magazines too, so you'll need to get another batch of (more expensive) mags as well, easily boosting the price a few hundred more bucks on top of things. My two concerns are service/parts and... how to get one? All the retailers in Hong Kong that have replied to me have said that they have no plans to carry version 3's at this time, and are only sitting on older versions. They aren't for sale from anywhere in the US. The last choice is from Systema directly, which is what I'm waiting for answers on at this point. The idea of owning a version 3 might be moot at this point anyways. |

I sense that PTW is not too attractive to the HK retailerss because of the price tag of the gun. Some of the customer like us might think its affordable, but many others don't. In a retailer point of view: 1) These PTW don't sell very well 2) They still have older gen stocks in their inventory and unable to estimate when they can clear them all out 3) Systema made a stance that the 3rd gen is not open for public 4) PTW is too user friendly, there are not much upgrades that you need to purchase from the retailers. Also, PTW is durable, retailers have much less chance to earn the "service fee" from customer. 5) Low sales volume. Retailer pay more to import the stocks, but the stocks didn't go very well. It maybe cause by general customer purchasing behavior. There are more people Leasing a car than buying out a car in 1 shot. Not maybe people are willing to buy PTW with the same logic. I am not LE and have no idea how to get a gen3 PTW at this moment. Is it really possible to buy them from Systema directly? |
Yes call or fax Systema directly.
|
i talked to will from spec arms he said he could try to get some id talk to him. he might be able to hook you up
|
how much are the mags worth tho? Blasty, since you seem to be the only person in Canada to own this system, you use Locaps? Hicaps?

Harley... terminology-wise... "changing" and "tuning/adjusting" is different, which do you mean? I'm pretty sure to Change the hopup unit, the user will have to open the gun, but to 'adjust' the hopup, an allen is required...
Just to clarify. |

i was paying between 70 to 100 bucks per mag, 110rds a piece. its a really cool system with the simulated bolt catch and such. with regards to taking it down to change the cylinder, it works really slick till you install a 203 (which can be a bitch but generally not to bad) then it wont pivot forward till ya remove the 203, pretty minor. cheers |
I personally use the 80 round mags. got 8 of them so I am good to go. Yeah think they were about 70-80 bucks.
You won't confuse them for TM mags. They are made of thick steel, are longer and much heavier. Pretty much like a real mag loaded up with bullets. And about changing the hopup yes if you were physically changing the hopup yes you have to open the gun which again is removing one pin and the cylinder slides out then you can slide out the hopup and barrel. archer if you got a m203 on it you can just take out the front pin too then separate the entire upper and get the gun open that way. And when I say take out the pin you don't acutually take it out. Its made so it can only slide out enough for the receiver to open. You can't lose your pins since they stay attached to the lower. |
Sorry about the confusion, the review I read stated that to TUNE or adjust the hopup required popping the rear pin and opening the upper receiver for every adjustment you wanted to make. But again, it was a prototype gun.
|
Concerning the mags... i read there are 30rounds, 100ish rounds and 300+ rounds mags. Are the prices the same? I was looking forward to a bunch of 30rounds mags... starting with a 300+ to cut on the price a little.
|
ICE,
no 300 rounds mags for PTWs. They come in 30, 80 and 120 only. |
thanks blastyman, didnt even think about that, havnt needed to open her up yet.
|
Ahhh thanks Solo. Same price for all of them?
|
Quote:
Pleasure mate. I'm not sure if it's the same price, guess not, maybe USD100 difference between them. EDIT Oh gosh what a fool I was: you were referring to the mags and I was referring to the rifles. No, even the mags have different prices |
Indeed the mags ;)
Not a lot of people seems to be able to get the system in canada... trying to find out what are the prices for the mags. |
Yes it's even too hard to get them in Canada. I mean these *shouldn't* be SO hard to get. They're costly yes, but to the point of being unavailable, a bit too much.
Will find the prices for you, but they should be in the USD50 range each. |
I spoke with a rep at Systema US recently. He wasn't aware airsoft was even legal in Canada. After giving him the lo down on our tricky system, he seemed to suggest the version 3's could be made available in the near future through the US for the Canadian market. There will be two models - a Mil/LE metal model, and a 'competition' aluminum model. They are functionally the same, but the Mil one is the actual weight of the real steel for training purposes, while the comp version was lighter for skirmish use. As it stands, I've put him in touch with a broker who represents a local business here, so with some luck there may be some version 3's in country in the near future. If anyone would be interested, start putting a few sheckles aside for now. I'm thinking if its a matter of needing a few customers to get the ball rolling, we could be in luck.
I'll be sure to post up when and if something comes of this. |
That was a very good job you did.
For all of you who have seen my recent video and images, that would be the LE/Mil version. It's a bit heavier in fact. For all who haven't seen it, a shameless show off here for all of you. ALL of the options you see on it are RS, including the PEQ2. Enjoy, and hopefully own one soon (BTW, no endorsement with Systema folks, I say again, just passion for this thing and maybe you can agree with me looking at it). http://img498.imageshack.us/img498/9029/ptwr8gr.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/8630/ptw2r6oz.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/5483/ptw3r1yp.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/6372/ptw4r4xy.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/4906/ptw5r5ih.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/1343/ptw6l5no.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/7633/ptw7l8ou.jpg http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/8454/ptw8l7tz.jpg http://img471.imageshack.us/img471/9590/ptw9l2cb.jpg[/quote] |
As much as that is airsoftcore pr0n, I hate you! ahem... do you have that pr0n in 1920x1200? If so, please mail it to controlvoltage@hotmail.com This is my new desktop ;O)
Hey Solo, you've tried the Systema M-16 and M-4... is there any noticeable difference in accuracy between the two that might justify a decision one way or the other? Also, about the competition model vs the Mil... would you say there is a weight/durability trade-off at all? Or is it just for realisms sake? Thx. EDIT: I think I can tell you aren't directly endorsing Systema because it looks like you taped off their logo, lol. |
god dame I think I just wet my self 8-O:o

yes I have larger images, and those will be sent to you (and thanks for your appreciation 8) ). Now, onto your questions. Yes there is difference between the longer barreled version and the M4. As you have seen that messed me even further and made me get both of them. But the accuracy/range alone thing shouldn't be your only decision point. Weight will also increase, as well as as general handling (harder with longer rifles obviously). Result is that I have skirmished with the A3 just 2-3 times (mostly when I was defending some assets) and the rest of the times I brought the M4. Also, don't forget that by adding (cylinder/battery) power thanks to the take down and swap thing, you can get pretty good results with the M4 as well (I measured with the range finder, good accuracy up to 55 metres, meaning I was able to consistently hit a target of my choice at that distance). In terms of differences between the MilSpec version and the commercial one, an US friend has just gotten his commercial version and he measured the accuracy range he was getting and it was exactly the same as mine. So on the performance side, you will see NO difference (as long as it is a 3rd generation). Aesthetically there might be differences (namely the barrel, front sights and then some). Keep asking, I'm here ;) |
excuse me while i go change my underwear.
those were some hot pictures. |
rofl,
thanks ;) |
I tought my M4 was hoot.. damn probably because its a systema it adds a cool factor. The Peq2, is just visible laser? You battery in the stock or in the mag pouch? 7,6v?
|
Quote:
|
Yeah sorry 7.2v! My mistake!
|
Quote:
Mistakes are no biggies ;) Both int the crane and in the pouch (batteries). Also, that PEQ2 is the real deal (US Military, .... ) ;) Thanks again for the nice comments folks |

EDIT: Please note (came in my mind later to specify about it) that it was NOT obtained in an illegal way. |
is that the real ACOG or replica? I'm sure its real, well 80%.
|
You can be sure 100% now, it's real ;)
EDIT: However, a new replica is coming out from G&P, and it's the replica of the scope you saw up above on my M4, that is, an Acog TA31F exact copy: http://www.gp-web.com/en/productspop.php?pid=832 As you can see, it is incredibly well made. Naturally the fiberoptics on the replica won't work (i.e., you won't have the lit red arrow inside) and the red tube on it is just a dummy but still, I find it hard to tell between the real one and this new replica. |
