UTG MP5 Version 2 review!

UTG MP5 Review...NOT INDEPTH BUT REALLY LONGASSED...

When I opened up my package from Sam at BC Airsoft Supply I was surpised to find that well the package...is actually an inside out UTG box. Everything was perfect well almost everything because the package was really really really dusty due to shipping and such...and I had to compress air and vacuum the whole body of the gun. Other than that the craftsman ship is quite good. I will now proceed to get into the actual review...

Body of the gun...
The body of the gun is well built and you can see the imitation weld points at various places. Comparable to my TM MP5 SD5. It is quite resistant to scratches in comparison to my TM. However the fore grip feels a little wobbly at first but thats because you haven't put the battery inside yet. Once its inside it feels quite solid. The only bad thing is the flash hider which seems to be made out of a lower grade of plastic in comparison to the rest of the gun. It is easily screwed off...remember righty tighty and lefty loosey....you have to work really hard at unscrewing the flash hider but its worth it. After you unscrew it just sand it down and paint it black...you can pretty much hold the gun anywhere with one hand and it won't fall apart. Lack of trademarks made me sad...but oh well not like someone is actually go up close to you at a game and be like LOL you have 6 mm on your gun....ok I would do that but not everyone is a jerk like me...

Stocks
It comes with 2 stocks and the sliding/retractable one is installed. I loved the sliding stock and it works really well. However I am a solid stock kinda guy so I just took the sliding one off and installed the solid stock. The butt plate of my solid stock was kind of warped so I just sanded it a bit and its beautiful now. The strap pins are well built. Removing the sliding stock was a bitch as there are these two small parts “clip spring and retaining pin” they are small and tend to bounce right out...so yeah paint them florcent orange or something if you plan on swapping stocks a lot.

Battery and charger
They work great and don't have that awful battery smell other batteries and chargers have...just gets warm but not hot. The connectors fit snugly but you don't have to force them together.

Magazines
The magazines they come with works well except the ugly winding wheel is white instead of a stealthy black...the fake bullets look...fake....

Straps
These are by far the oddest looking straps I've ever seen and I've yet to try them out...

Scope mount.
This thing fits great but I don't have a scope to go with it. But you can screw it on and hold the whole gun up by just the scope mount. All metal construction.

Operation of the gun.
Semi and Full auto works great roughly around the same FPS as my Stock TM MP5 SD5. ROF feels similar. I haven't tested accuracy since I'm still kind of sick and I don't feel like venturing outside and re-catching the flu or letting the sars regroup...

I've been considering getting this gun from the same place. Over all, would you say its worth the money just to plink around in the basement?

Yes. We just got a couple from the guy. GREAT price, especially for this gun... you can buy an overpriced crosman M4 springer for this price in Canada. This gun is GREAT.

Oh yeah, you wouldn't know how the sling is used, would you?

yanhchan January 24th, 2006 12:52

I have a milforce 3 point sling so yeah its quite simle to use just ignore all that velcro shit it comes with. Add a keychain ring to the back strap pin and just hook the front one using the clip. The sling is quite long so yeah play around with different configurations...go to a game ask someone to set it up for you...

SergeantBob January 25th, 2006 19:23

Looks nice... is it a potential good gun... could like someone use it at a real airsoft game or its just as cheap a SoftAir and that crap?

mirage13 January 25th, 2006 19:44

Are this a review of the V2 or V1?

CannonFodder January 25th, 2006 22:44

nah man, this is a quality low-budget airsofter AEG, you'll stand your own in CQB not so much in big outdoors

Kid January 25th, 2006 22:48

Cannon, do you actually own one?

Seriously, read my springer story. If I got a guy with that, you can definately get a few with this.

It'll hold itself at the same as a normal TM MP5 (maybe a bit lower...) and even MP5Ks are used in some outdoor games, it will definately give you good mobility.
It's all about your play style.

Though, if you're a fat guy that can't run faster more than a normal guy walks, get a upgraded M14 instead.

yanhchan January 26th, 2006 11:51

MY THREAD IS TURNING INTO A FLAMEWAR HAXXORS....

I actully own a TM MP5 and a UTG MP5 so I'm unbiased about this gun. All I can say is I can use either one but I prefer to use the UTG MP5 because I don't have to treat it like a TM. I can basically abuse it as much as I want to...without worrying about costly repairs..The TM feels a lot better in terms of realism due to the weight distribution and the trades. The ROF is a little better. Accuracy wise both guns are holding up.

firemachine69 January 26th, 2006 12:18

I think I'll eventually get one just to upgrade it to the shiznits...

yanhchan January 26th, 2006 12:30

I currently doing external mods. I plan to keep it stock as it will be my CQB gun and the TM I will upgrade for outdoors.

yanhchan January 26th, 2006 16:05

Lots of people upgrade their UTGs and they run fine. I suggest you buy yours off BCAS!

Dozer_01 January 26th, 2006 16:08

I think the bushings cannot be swapped (some modding required to the mechbox shell itself IIRC). I think a hurricane kit would do the trick.

Dozer_01 January 26th, 2006 16:42

Erik, Ive read that the guns are compatible with anything TM can use. Body, mags, stock, mechbox shit, everything. BEST your money can buy. I am now a UTG convert

ya man, I bought one off Sam around the same time you did, it's a great gun.. couldn't get the flashhider off though...no biggie

dead_aim January 26th, 2006 21:47

can TM or STAR mp5 mags fit?? with the mech box is it re-enforce?? if it does break can it be swaped with a tm one?? with the flash hidder can tm or any other fit?? where did you get the suppresors?? did it come with it....

need more convincing..need a indoor gun...

Dozer_01 January 26th, 2006 21:56

1. ANy AEG MP5 mag will work. CA, ICS, TM, STAR etc etc.
2.The mechbox is an exact TM ver2 copy. That means it is not reinforced but could be swapped.
3.The flashider is a totally different thread than TM. Im not sure what it is.
3.It does not come with a silencer.

yanhchan January 26th, 2006 22:08

The selector is a little off but maybe its just mine...however it still functions fine...

Ya, Mines a little screwy too but, it doesn't really matter. Full auto, semi-auto..who cares as long as I get you

CannonFodder January 27th, 2006 09:49

it's the name that throw everyone off, just because it's not the standard name brand doesn't mean it sucks, The UTG Mp5 is a serious gun, not some shitty softair crap. I'd say it'll hold its own in CQB against just about anything, dunno about outdoors but, it never hurts (that much) to try

yanhchan January 27th, 2006 09:54

yeah UNDER THE GUN...LOL what kind of name is that...better then CYMA though...Worst name of all...NEONFIRE...UGH

LucidFox January 28th, 2006 14:16

Meh. I'm looking forward to mine. :borg:

yanhchan January 28th, 2006 23:07

I'm well aware of that....LOL

CannonFodder January 29th, 2006 11:04

damn I love this gun, trying to fire off enough to test the long-term durability, so far at around 7000 bbs, can't wait for good old 20,000

mirage13 January 29th, 2006 15:34

Can someone shoot like 10 shots on semi and 10 shots on full auto at two seperate paper targets from like 50 feet, using the sights to aim directly at the center of the target (duh), and post a pic so I can see how accurate this thing is? And don't re-do it so that you look like you're a good shot, be objective! Also, try not to guess what 50 feet is, and use a tape :)

I will love you forever, if that means anything.

yanhchan January 29th, 2006 19:47

I'm up for the challenge. I'll even wear goggles. I'll ask the guard of my apartment building if I could use the selcuded part under supervision to try this out. I know him well so it should be no problem.

Pics up later this week.

mirage13 January 29th, 2006 19:53

 Thanks man, this will probably be the deciding factor for me.

One other thing, what exactly is "screwy" about the selector switch? Is it loose, causing it to change settings when shaken?

yanhchan January 29th, 2006 20:00

The selector switch is always a little off so it doesn't allign to the markings but it snaps to each selection properly...it does like to do 2 burst shots sometimes on Semi...other then that its great

mirage13 January 29th, 2006 20:04

I've heard the internals are copied from TM... any idea what may be causing the 2 shot burst?

Is it just double feeding and firing 2 BBs in one shot? Or is the piston moving back and forth twice with one trigger pull?

EDIT - Perhaps there is a flaw in the circuitry, causing it to think you've released the trigger and depressed it again, even though you haven't? That's assuming it's not double feeding, and the piston is cycling twice...

Dozer_01 January 30th, 2006 00:13

I think the hopup can make the gun fire two bb's at a time. My G36c used to do that and it was almost brand new. I turned the hopup all the way up, the all the way down in one quick motion, then set it back to wear it was before. Never had a problem with it after that.

yanhchan January 30th, 2006 14:44

I'll try that. Thanks guys

GMTII January 30th, 2006 14:49

yanhchan January 30th, 2006 15:59

You mean the flashhider?...Just get a good wrench and put a lot of electrical tape over it and start turning left...slowly

CannonFodder January 31st, 2006 23:50

I couldn't get mine off at all, it started warping so I just gave up, sanded and painted

LucidFox February 1st, 2006 08:04

Cannon, yours got glued in which sucked.

I can't wait to order mine in.

yanhchan February 1st, 2006 08:40

Everyone gets their's glued...yes the flashhider will warp when you turn it as it of very low quality. Just keep trying..you'll hear a loud snap/crack and then it turns like butter...

Phil_Black February 1st, 2006 13:01

i taught i post a link to rewiew of the utg mp5. Because somone did the test of acuracy with it at 50 !

yanhchan February 1st, 2006 13:16

....i got a whole bunch of links...

karbon February 2nd, 2006 18:23

Of course the MP5 clips are all compatable, but the TM/Star etc. AK mags are not cross compatable with the UTG AK47.

yanhchan February 2nd, 2006 18:44

Wait when did we start discussing about the AK....please stay on topic. Secondly they're magazines not CLIPS...."clips are for girls to wear in their hair!"

hksdu February 4th, 2006 21:13

Which UTG AK? I think there's a new one coming out, and they do advertise it as a 1:1 marui clone...kinda stupid how they'll leave out something a replica should have like mag interchangeability :P

yanhchan February 4th, 2006 21:18

Hey nice name Good to know that the HK SDU is being reconized! I know the mag interchangeability issue is stupid. Maybe they plan to release exclusive magazines so they're locking out competition or something like that...

TEAM-JOG February 5th, 2006 22:17

I'm buying my UTG mp5 in about 3 weeks when I go to florda. The plan is my brother and I order 2UTG mp5's and 3 m87 shotguns from shorty's. We send them to my fathers buisness office in Tampa bay. Over there when we receive them, we disasemble them and pack them well mixed up in our luguage alond with about 5 packs of 5000 krs bb's :oO:

Mantelope February 5th, 2006 22:22

Hope you don't get strip-searched at the border. That would suck.

That's the smartest thing I've ever heard!

You know, when you disassemble them, that just makes the parts look like they are parts of real guns instead of toys. Yay for gun running!

Bahaha, and I amagine you will be flying too? Bahahaha

Skippy February 5th, 2006 22:49

Yeah, that's officially the dumbest way to go about it. First of all, I won't even go into the piles of shit you get into if you get caught. Second, why pack it in luggage? Everyone knows the way to smuggle something into the country is by breaking all of the easily identified parts up (Reciever, body) and shipping them in boxes of pinball machine parts :p

Seriously, don't even bother. It's not worth the risk.

yanhchan February 6th, 2006 18:15

I'm going on vacation anyway...

Anyways you guys are right, it's not worth taking the risk of not only of loosing the guns but also getting involved in the law. I will just buy my gun off bc aisoft supp. or airsoft unit (a local dealer). And if I can't get my hands on a UTG, I'll save some money and buy a TM/Ca or isc from a local store

yanhchan February 7th, 2006 06:35

If you have the money I say go with the TM. You won't regret it. I still love my TM MP5 SD5 because it feels a little more solid and its just got an edge over a UTG. The trigger feel is a little better. ROF slightly higher but not really noticable...

GrieverX February 7th, 2006 14:22

Hey yanhchan, just wondering, is the front end of the UTG MP5 compatible with your TM MP5SD5?

yanhchan February 8th, 2006 16:32

Nope because the TM one is Quick Detatch and uses a different locking system. The utg has threads.

Dro February 8th, 2006 17:24

I think he's talking about the whole front end. Like converting the A4 to an SD front end. Some guys on Arnie's converted it with a cheapy CSI mp5 front end.

yanhchan February 8th, 2006 17:37

link please?
