**VERY NEW** To airsoft, help with lube
Ok, I will be picking up my first Green Gas pistol this week and went out to buy some lube.
I picked up some stuff from Solder Seal "GUNK" It is called "Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant" It says it is good for -locks -striker plates -hinges -mowers -drapery rods -nylon slids -bikes -windows -zippers -virtually all moving parts Right on the front it says "Waterproofs and Rustproofs - IDEAL FOR METAL, RUBBER and WOOD Do you think this stuff would be good ??? If not, any recomendations on what I will find at my local Home Depo, Walmart, Canadian Tire Thanks a bunch It is in the blue and white can, not the yellow can. Code on can is M914C Here is the PDF info sheet LINK HERE Cheers |
Personally I'm a fan of weapons grade graphite for GBB's, works amazingly well in all temperatures and through heavy use.
|
Never heard of it, as I said, I'd like something I can get locally.
Thanks for the info though |
Silicone grease. Silicone oil. Lithium grease. All 3 available at almost any hardware store or hobby shop. What you want is silicone oil.
If you want local ideas, clarify your profile. Canada is a big place. Nobody here reads minds. You'd be amazed at some of the places where you can find supplies, and loval people will know exactly where to shop. You can also use the search option, or check a thread in the Information section about the care and feeding of GBB guns. |
I am in Ottawa Canada.
I do not see why the stuff I have would not work, I just wanted to get some confirmation. And just so you know, I have done searches for the stuff I have and many others with many keywords (no need to list them) in search of help. That is why I came and registered here ....... FOR HELP I am 33 years old, not 13, please give me a bit more credit. My main concern is not F'n up my new pistol. I have just got out of PB where I was very serious and would help out NEWBS as much as I could on the forums. Well, I am in a new forum now and "I" am the newb. I see you are from Gatineau .... funny .... we are actually very close. Cheers |
From your PDF file: Pre test painted, varnished, lacquered or plastic parts for compatibility.
Stay away from anything containing petrolium products, or solvents, they can screw up plastics faster than you can say......AWWW SHIT! |
3M makes a good silicone lube, no petroleum byproducts, but it's $25 for a spray can that would last you till the next ice age.
Or you can go to a hobby shop and get some silicone oil 10 wt. for about $4. But you should only lube your gun sparingly. Too much lube attracts contaminants like dust and dirt and gums up the works. What you use in you gas should is sufficient. Some guys get their GBB's totally juicy, and that's a waste and ruins performance and longevity. |
I have the Airsoft Innovations Propane adaptor and it suggests to use a Light Silicone lube, that is why I am on this mad hunt.
As for the 3m stuff, any particular type to be specific?? BTW, I am really appreciating the help folks Had one guy say he used Hopps 9 gun oil, but that just sounded wrong to me :-) |
You should get the 5 wt oil from ASC armoury meant for that adapter. It's all you really need.
|
As Macguyver said, hit a hobby shop and pick up some 10 wt. silicon oil. Put 2 drops on the valve of your propane tank, that should be good for about 10 mags.
BTW, what gun do you have? |
I am picking up the Tippmann R-650
Link Here Yeah yeah, maybe not the best, but it is a start Also been suggested the Slick 50 One Lube Says safe for all plastics, metal and rubber materials |

EDIT: Beat to the punch :( |

EDIT: Just saw the price on the tippmann, dont do it, not worth it at all. For only a little more you can get something 100x better like TM or KSC. |
Appreciate the hint, but I have shot it and like it. LOVE the full metal feel.
Plus, if the Tippmann AS is like the PB stuff, it is built like a tank and will last forever. This will be my first, but NOT my last. Will need a nice AEG rifle next |
Read my edit. Its not worth it, buy tm or something, they're not much more money then the tippmann and will be 100x better. Tippmann is not an airsoft company, so they dont have any experience in building airsoft guns, so no, it probably wont be very good.

$160 Canadian is what I am getting it for, I will be picking it up locally so the boarder stuff is not an issue.
Have you guys shot this actual pistol ?? If not, how do you know it is junk ?? Kind of like if it is not a Harley davidson it is junk, or is it really junk?? Kind of already got my mind made up. It is for plinking around the yard, that is it. Spent 12 years in the military crawling in the bush, not much in the mood to do that anymore. Just trying to get advice on lube. If someone thought I was going to have issues with this across the boarder, then why would that not apply to the other airsoft stuff?? Any other places in Canada sell full metal pistols ?? (for normal prices) I just bought the adaptor and am not happy to hear that what I wanted is junk. Can you give me some reasons why it is JUNK ?? And not to sound like a dink, but I am reading stuff like "PROBABLY NOT WORTH IT" ..... if you have shot it and KNOW it is, then let me know why, if not ... it is all just speculation and assumptions. Fine. Enjoy your 10 minutes of plinking while the gun works at 100 fps.
As for lube, 10 weight silicon from a RC hobby shop. It's used for shocks, they might call it shock oil. Btw, after you fill your gun with propane, put on a paintball mask. That way when the slide flies back at your face, you won't put out your eye with it. Have fun! |
Shooting a gun one time doesnt mean its good. It might work once, but in the long term it'll probably become a paper weight. I wasted 180 bucks on a gbb once that shot fine for over a month, but then broke and can't ever be repaired, so now i have $180 paper weight.
AND DO NOT PLAY WITH IT OUTSIDE IN YOUR YARD! Im getting tired of people thinking its fine to take a highly realistic airsoft gun out in their backyard.... |
Guys RELAX, shit ... I live in Navan and own a 3 acre lot ... I am FINE in my backyard. Same as I was with my PB field.
And as for the propane comment, does the Airsoft Innovation Adaptor not work well??? According to this it works fine ... LINK HERE (have you not heard of this ?? ) No reviews talked about guns blowing up in peoples faces. GreenGas is basically odorless propane. Man, try not to get so BENT up. As I said, I am not a kid ........ let's have an adult chat !!! If you have a better all metal suggestion and a place in Canada to buy one ... please give me ideas or even better links (maybe a price guide) |
The AI Propane Adaptor is excellent, no worries. The comment mean't, the gun will break, so make sure you're wearing safety equipment when it does.

Dirty Deeds .. thank you ,... that is what I thought.
Vivisector, are you just in a pissy mood or what ?? So I will ask again (just for curiousity) have you folks used them and had them break on you ???? Or are you assuming the worst. I am in the link bar looking now. Talk about a bad taste in my mouth already ....... wow !! |
Do not play with it in your backyard. You're not the first person to say 'i have a big backyard'. Someone can still see you. Not only do you put yourself at risk, you put our entire community and our loved sport in huge risk. Thats why we get "bent up". Our community has been working very hard for years to safe gaurd the future of our sport. And people like you playing with your soft air garbage (sorry, but thats what it is), in your backyard threaten to undo all that hard work. So yes, i think we have the right to get "bent up". You ignore our advice and you expect us to jump up to help you? Read the FAQ section, then maybe we'll be more willing to be helpful.

For christ sake guys, I came here with a simple question.
May backyard is heavy wooded and my closest neighbour is about 5 clicks away ......... NO THEY CAN NOT SEE ME !!!! I am not stupid, I spent time in the military, hunted my entire life and have played paintball for over 10 years, I UNDERSTAND how folks react to this sort of stuff. They freak out over water pistols In PB, we face the same type of clown MAKING A MESS OF IT for everyone. I would not do that !!!!!!!!! Sooooooooo What Gas BlowBacks to you as USERS recommend that will be a good durable gun??? I am asking for help. DOn't tell me what I am buying is junk and then walk away ..... give me some suggestions on what full metal blowbacks are worth the money and I can get from within Canada. Brands ??? Best prices from the links on the site ??? (some give better prices when you talk to them) |

It was not meant to shit on you. Same for your location; the best help is available locally and we cant know unless you tell us. Trust me, you'll know if I flame you. Spray based lubricants may contain petroleum distillates, and those are to be avoided. You can get lithium grease at Canadian Tire, graphite grease is a bit harder to find but excellent for slides and moving parts, silicone oil = any of the better hobby shops in Ottawa. All 3 are safe for any airsoft gun. Silicone oil is necessary for gas guns. |

Places to buy? After you get age-verified, the Classified section. Others? ASC Armoury owns this website, check them out. Then click on Canadian Retailers. Dont buy crap, please trust us, most of the long term players here have some amazingly long experience and you really should listen to it. There is a Very Good reason why we go for the better brands; they work. As you said yourself, you are Very New. Take the time to learn and follow advice. You'll enjoy this game a lot more if you do. For not much more than $50 more, you can get excellent GBB pistols that wont let you down. |

you have to talk to most of the retailers in canada for a full metal pistol. alot of us with full metal pistols bought them as a plastic pistol at first and then did the upgrade to full metal later. the problem with that aside from being difficult and time consuming to do is that doing an upgrade like that can push the end cost of the pistol well north of $500 depending on the gun and whats done to it. the vast majority of airsoft pistols are made mainly if not exclusively of plastic. kjw makes full metal ones though, they are not bad but no matter what you are going to be spending more than just $180 for a decent full metal pistol. plastic isnt as bad as it is made out to be, in many cases is can be very durable and just fine. airsofters tend to be a bit obsessive about looks and feel and complain about things made of plastic. for someone who is new i would suggest a gun made by Tokyo marui or one made by KSC. they are fairly common and parts can be found for them if something is to break. yes they will be plastic but they are quite durable and are not much more than what you were thinking of spending anyway. they will serve you well, and should you really hate the feel of it after a while you can always do the upgrade to full metal. i know i did the upgrade to my TM P226 and it was a real learning experience. |

Guys, Navan is fine. It's not a soccer-mom community, and nobody bitches about REAL guns walking down the street let alone plastic toys. It's one of those places that somehow stayed sensible when the rest of the world got stupid. |

The graphite in a tube (it's a really small tube but you need so little) is fine if it has no petroleum derivatives in it. |

Where was I ?? .................... Oh yeah ............. I actually found the 100% Silicon Lube OIL from a hobby shop. 2 ounces for $4.25 .... that works for me. It is the one suggested to me that is used for RC Car Shocks. I am not looking to get heavy into airsoft (just yet) so I did go ahead and buy the tippmann R650 (yeah I know ...... moans and groans all around ..;) ) Funny part is, on furture research and a few phone calls I found out this ... On the bottom of the Mag it says "HFC" and basically the tippmann R650 says Tippmann NOWHERE on it. My Tippmann Springer Shotgun DOES say tippmann on it. The R650 is actually the same full metal gun as the HFC METALHFC M190 Tactical. http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/HFC_M19...c-m190auto.htm Not sure if the HRC is a good gun or not ... but for me I really wanted the FULL METAL. No shipping, no worries of border issues (got it from a local licenced seller) and for a good price (less than many US sites sell it for) Hey, I payed about $200 for a Beretta replica a few years ago, SO , I hope it last and can shoot FOREVER .... BUT ... even if it doesn't ..... I will be just as happy having a FULL METAL pistal that I can fart around with just inserting and removing the mag and cocking the slide. "IF" I do get into airsoft, I will not even look at a good pistol for a while, I will go straight for a nice high end AEG. ANYWAY ............. I appologize for the misunderstanding earlier and will say "THANKS" for the help when it comes to the lube. So far so good ..... already have about 1500 rounds down range (that is how much my buddy and I like it) have had it appart to inspect the insides (all metal) and springs and general working of the pistol. All is working nice so far with no issues. Did the can test from about 8-10 feet away and 2 out of 5 shots went into the can and the other 3 went throught .... so I don't know for sure what it is but the velocity seams to be nice !! I will cross my fingers and hope it holds up in function ...... if not ....... just the fact it is a cool pistol to hold and just look at makes me happy. Thanks and Cheers Mike :) |
