Looking for info on JTF 2
Or more particularly(sp) the fire arms they use. I have looked through the forums and on the various websites and cant find any info on what they use. Id much appreciate if anyone could provide some assistance
Thanks Matt in the UK |
heavy barreled c8's with usually acog's or eotechs
c9a2's, though I'm almost positive I've seen m249 para models as well. won't go any farther without breaching opsec. Greg |
P90 for CQB...
|
They will use MP5s at least sometimes . . . or so I'm told.
|
The universal answer you're usually going to get it "What's standard for a non-standard military arm?" On top of the secrecy JTF2 thrives on, unconventional special forces are just that.
C8's and your standard CF goodies, I'm sure, though I've had word of mouth the MP5 is a favorite as well. That could very well be more publicly acknowledge gear, mind you. I'd suggest using your own creativity in trying to recreate what a JTF2 member might look to have during an operation. |
Cheers Greg & per, help much appreciated. You wouldnt happen to know what load carrying kit they use too?
Thanks Matt |
Well the CF are using is this vest http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/Engl...sp?product=116 but like most SF they some time us what they have got them self. So there realy isn't one look for JTF-2.
|
On a somewhat related note, I remember a few years back when there was that engagement in Haiti, we sent some peacekeepers over there. I recall someone posting a scanned image from a newspaper; the caption claimed that the CF member pictured was JTF2.
For the life of me I can't remember the paper or when it was posted, and I haven't heard of any follow-ups that might have corrected the mistake in calling the peacekeeper JTF2 (if it was indeed a mistake), but does anybody have that picture or know where it might be? |
Unfortunately you aren't likely going to get an accurate response. Those that don't know spout off, and those that do know say little or nothing. There is however a plethora of tidbits out in the ether if you look hard enough. Suggest milphotos to start.
Attaboy Greg ;) |

Thanks very much for your help guys! Much appreciated, now where did i like my credit card :banghead:
Cheers Matt |
JTF2 wears alot of stuff that differs from the standard canadian issue stuff like their load bearing vests (ive seen different chest rigs and the like)
and alot of times they use different optics on their weapons (not always the Elcan) sometimes a red dot (they probably use alot of their personal equipment that they prefer) they are supposed to be secret as well so you probably wont find too much on them. |
uhhhhh i dont know how to do links but heres some pics i found
http://www.dcds.forces.gc.ca/units/j...lery_e.asp#top |
oh cool the link worked
|
You're a goone...but the pictures are good indeed. They don't include the Haiti set but those can prolly be found on MilitaryPhotos.net
Aswell, JTF2 isn't a secret anymore, they are acknowledged by DND on multiple gov't websites. It's their training and operations that is so closely guarded. |
Isn't CSOR canada's new "secret" :P
|
Uh...could be...if it wasn't for all the publicity they've been getting.
|
CSOR is the Canadian Airborne pretty much, but like JTF2, you wont know anything about anybody in that unit, the gear, the weapons. all the juicy stuff.
|
lol yeah. 4 people that I know applied; haven't heard from them since >_O;
|
Simply put...CSOR is to the Rangers as JTF2 are to Delta.

The following is from "Canada's Secret Commandos" by david pugliese. Its a very good book detailing JTF2's past, and present, as well as training and other info. Highly recommend for you SF buffs. Here is a rough breakdown of the chapter about weapons and equipment.
JTF2 operators have two sets of equipment, for green and black ops. The green op is for SF missions and usually built around the C7 (canadian version of the M4), and the black for counter-terrorism or stealth built around the MP5 series. Each set is different from troop to troop depending on their personal preferences. SUBMACHINE GUNS- around the H&K MP5 series, used because of the increased accuracy and reliability, and that 9mm bullets are easier to use. they are usually the MP-5A2 or 3, or the MP-5SD with the built in silencer. HANDGUNS-the Sig Sauer line, as they are more reliable than the standard issue Browning pistol, thus allowing the operators to store a chambered round safely. Usually the P- 225, 226, 228, or 229. RIFLES- Use of the C7, becuase its considered more reliable than the american made M16 (ya, we beat them). The shorter C8 is used, and the M203 is often added. MACHINE GUNS- the C9 is used, and the General Perpose Machine Gun C6 is rumoured to be also used SHOTGUNS- the remington 870 and the H&K Benelli Super 90. SNIPERS- The canadian JTF2 have a wide variety of snipers available to them, and train with them extensivly. (the book also summarizs the mission in which a JTF2 operator took down a driver of a truck moving at an unknown speed... at 2.4 km, possibly a world record? this fact has been acknowledged by the the DoD). The .300 winchester magnum, .338 Lapua Magnum, Accuracy International AW sniper, PSG-1, McMillan .50, and M-82A1 Barrett .50 sniper. JTF2 also uses a number of sanitized wepons, so basically an operator can be seen using a AK, Uzi, whatever. they also make use of Surefire lights, CLAM, laser range finders, stun granades, and night vision. hope this was of help. Check out the book its really good, as well the same author wrote about the roles of different countries SF in the war on terror, including the british SAS, SBS, austrailian SAS, german GSG-9, american delta, polish GROM, so on and so forth. |
two seconds on the dnd site.... http://www.cansofcom.forces.gc.ca/en/index_e.asp
Pip, JTF 2 doesnt use p90's, they use C8 SFWs and MP5's primarly. And, to everyone in general, if you dont know, dont start spouting things off... |
the JTF2 arent like navy seals for instance, they keep a low profile for more effective deployment, so digging up good info is hard.
|
Ya i know, i hadent even heard of JTF2 before this book, i found it very good
READ IT! |

So basically, as long as you don't carry an exotic firearm (G36, SA80) you'll do fine with firearms.
