What is a good starter gun set up?

I have a few in mind,

TM type 89
M4
M16
G36C

Had a few companies in mind, but found a lot of people recommend TM. Any other thoughts? I'd love to hear em. Got some christmas money to help me get a gun.

LUTNIT December 25th, 2006 18:44

Dude, someone asks this question pretty much 2-3 times a week, read the FAQ

*cough* http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=253 *cough*

Type 89 I don't know much about
M4 and M16 have ver.2 mechboxes (break apart when upgraded too far)
Personally, G36 all the way, solid ver.3 mechbox and common so lots of replacement/upgrade parts available. What are you playing though? Larger fields with longer engagement distances you'll want the increased accuracy of a longer barreled gun (G36 instead of G36c), as I said in a previous thread get the right gun for the job, my CA36 shoots 30fps higher than my teammates G36c with the exact upgrades, the difference is all in barrel length. Moderately upgrading a long barreled gun will serve you better than a highly upgraded carbine. If of course your playing at shorter ranges then a carbine is what your after.

:smack: thanx

Rukus December 25th, 2006 19:09

Thanx for the info, G36 sounds like a good option for sure, and yes forgot about that noob thread and I've been through it a few times, guess I was just tired and stupid when I was reading it. I've been doing as much research as possible,

Let me re-phrase it then lol.

I've looked for a review for this gun but haven't found one. There is one available through Warcraft games inc. or something to that nature. The data they have on it looks about average. It would be nice to hear from someone who has used it. I've looked at the TM type 89 apparently it has a new 3 shot burst on it. It uses the EG1000 mech box, and it's full metal, so was more or less wondering on durability and ware factors, because from what it says the 3 shot burst is relatively new option, though I haven't been around long enough to know if it is or isn't. I think it might be a problem down the road waiting to happen if this is a relatively new feature. Is there anything else out there with the 3 shot burst option?

RickJames December 25th, 2006 19:33

Now.. I have been hearing a lot about this FAQ lately. FAQ this and that. Seems more popular than the Davinci Code... Should I read this FAQ? I mean, I really wish it was available on cassette or VHS tape but its not. So, if I read this, can me and greylocks hang out like we was ol' homies from da hood?

As for guns, go for the G36. Always go with a Ver 3 mechbox or above. The new CA G36s are awesome and on par with TM or better

Boche December 25th, 2006 19:47

RickJames, you're a stinky twat......don't you know the FAQ is holy airsoft scripture........read it now and be saved.

BTW, G36's are ugly, I'd never get one.........ever.

DuffMan December 25th, 2006 19:51

And that's coming from the guy with the Fatherland's flag blowing in his avatar, so you KNOW it's ugly.

Krieg December 25th, 2006 20:08

I agree with memel.

I think G36 is ugly as hell.

Mongoose December 25th, 2006 21:17

The best way to figure what would be the best gun for you is to attend a game and get permission to shoot other players guns. That way you will see for your self if you like that particular gun or not.

This is a good starter gun:

dont you have one?

swatt13 December 25th, 2006 23:49

i prefer my finger and thumb pointed in someones general direction going "pew, pew... pewpewpew!" lol

g36 definatly. m4 is good too. wouldnt really say an 89 is a starter gun.... well i guess ANY gun could be a starter gun, but you want something that you can turn around and sell when you realize your first gun isnt right for you. market is swamped with m4's, and 552 buy used to start.

ancorp December 26th, 2006 00:07

TM AK-47, or a ICS AK-74M... :)

Reliable, well built, reasonably priced.

Cheers,
Alex

takatorikku December 26th, 2006 00:25

CA36 varient i'd say. ridiculously reliable stock, very strong and good power out of the box (mine shoots are 330~fps). V3 means lots of readily available upgrades and at least I think it's not ugly...

if you're into bullpups, check out the CA AUG A2. very nice price, and i assure you it's a BB laser

Rukus December 26th, 2006 00:31

lol, used to do the point a hockey stick and say budget cut budget cut on ex, but our budget is a little better now that the liberals are out of power. And I'll go through the FAQ before I ask another of these types of questions lol.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep searching, but I think I giver for the G36 sounds like a reliable weapon.

Brakoo December 26th, 2006 00:32

I love how those kind of threads always turn into people trying to make everyone believe their own gun is the best starter gun and then the thread gets trashed. :)

Rukus December 26th, 2006 00:48

Thread was trashed right from the beginning lol. Asked something that was already very well covered elsewhere on the forums, but still got some positive ideas and feed back so it wasn't a total waste.

NewType ZERO December 26th, 2006 01:00

I was in the Armoury the other day when they got some new stuff in and a TM Type 89 got put in my hands.. now those are actually very nice.. good weight.. great feel.. If I didnt already have most of what Im going to get planned out.. that would have been my next gun.

Rukus December 26th, 2006 01:35

Could they give you any feed back on the gun itself? There is one over in Vancouver, just I'm not paying $150 to look at it though. I might drop by the shop if I happen to go out that way in the next month, it depends if I already have a gun or not. Thanx though.

Rukus December 26th, 2006 04:51

Nice, looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing a little more about it.

Wow... Great first post their...

I would recommend the CA G36K Version, its in between the Full length rifle and the smaller G36C (I guess the C version is more of an SMG then a rifle)... It has a great feel to it, the only issues I've had are that the built in scope isn't very easy to use, and it can only use a 8.4v mini battery stock.

LUTNIT December 26th, 2006 20:20

Whether is ugly or not is all opinion, I used to hate G36's but it grew on me and now I'm a huge fan.

Rukus December 26th, 2006 20:53

How long do the mini batteries last in those weapons? couple of days, or couple of games? Do you normally carry a lot of them with you as spares?

A 1200mAH mini can last about 1000 rounds. How many batteries you carry depend on how trigger happy you are. I usually carry 3 minis to game and 2 large. (I like carrying a backup primary weapon)

LUTNIT December 26th, 2006 21:16

From a 1400mAh battery you should be able to get at least 1500-1600 rounds if the gun is stock, upgrades require more power to push it so it depends on the level its upgraded (this is assuming its 15-30'C, in the cold or extreme heat the battery life can drastically change.)

Personally I can't stand mini batteries, I highly recommend a large handguard (G36C only as far as I know) or a battery butt stock.

Cortex December 26th, 2006 22:46

You can also get one of those fake laser units that hold large batteries... they mount on a rail and just hold the battery.

Cassius December 27th, 2006 22:10

Although I am getting an M4 I would recommend the G36c. I don't like the look of the standard G36 nor the K variant but the c carry handle gives a totally different look to the G36. Also, like LUTNIT said, the G36c can be fitted with a large handguard which would be the first thing I would change on it.

TM G36c with Large handguard (seen here:http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...6CLHG_srch_G36)

Things you should consider though:
The G36 magasines cost a bit more than armalite types and they are also larger. Quite larger.
