Airsoft Ghost town 2008? *PICS ADDED*

My uncle is the head of a society that looks after and restores BC's oldest Ghost town by the name of Quesnel Forks. Located two hours north east of Williams Lake literally in the middle of nowhere! With a government camp site only a 2 minute walk from the ghost town and with large open fields, gravel pits, two rivers, etc it's a very lovely location.

Anyways he asked me about setting up a large airsoft game there. The ghost town is mainly made up of barely standing buildings although there are a couple they have restored.

I have no idea how to even set one of these things up. It all depends on how many people decide to show up and such. I figure it would be neat to have a large game going along with a concession, there is a bandstand for a band to play, and things like that.

Anyone have any clues about getting something like this started, how much to charge, etc?

The town of Likely (where I live) is located half an hour before you get to Quesnel Forks. Likely has a pub, general store, gas station, propane store, restaurant, etc. There is no power at Quesnel Forks though so generators would be a must for recharging batteries and such.

Anyways I was told to post this here to help get the word out. I need to see how many people would be interested in it, what should be charged for it, and WHAT DAYS should it be held on?

looks like your gonna have a good time!

Drache June 2nd, 2007 21:02

If I can get enough people to show up I certainly hope so!

Beazer June 2nd, 2007 21:28

We were looking into getting in at Seebe. How close is this to Likely?
You would probably get alot of interest pending date from Joint Operations Calgary, but it might be better to go through BCAC to run one.

Drache June 2nd, 2007 21:42

what do you mean go through BCAC to run it?

attack-beaver June 2nd, 2007 21:54

i think what he means is let the BCAC game organizers set the game up.

Drache June 2nd, 2007 22:10

how would someone go about doing that or talking to someone about it? Im fairly new at setting up airsoft games although I have set up other events.

attack-beaver June 2nd, 2007 22:24

give the boys at BCAC a call and see what they have to say or talk to gish here on ASC and he could give u some good tips.

Beazer June 2nd, 2007 22:27

yeah, give them a call.
Although it doesn't look too far from the Alberta border. Maybe 3 hours or 4 from Edmonton?
So JOC might be an option if BCAC doesn't work out.

Drache June 2nd, 2007 22:52

Google maps puts the trip at just under 12 hours worth of driving (979 km)

From Vancouver it's 614 km (about 7 hours 47 mins)

From Kelowna it's 510 km (about 6 hours 37 mins)

Shinjin_MC June 2nd, 2007 23:18

set up a game there and you will have no problems getting signups
there arent a lot of good urban type environments to play in
look at the ferry; loads of people come from all over to play and it isnt that big of a play area too

Drache June 2nd, 2007 23:20

I'll hopefully be going down there soon so I can get pictures of the entire area so people will have a better understanding of what is there.

Drache June 2nd, 2007 23:27

I'm thinking of holding it on the first weekend in June, that would mean one year from today. Anyone have any better ideas? I'd normally say the May long weekend but it's pretty busy in town because of the softball playoffs and the parade and such. :D

attack-beaver June 2nd, 2007 23:47

with a year to set up you could get a great game going man.

Drache June 3rd, 2007 00:04

Like I said I plan on having a concession down there along with a band if I can. The large field is perfect for camping and there is also a very large gravel pit, tons of trees...

Just wish there was someone close who could come take a look and help me figure out things lol!

mcguyver June 3rd, 2007 00:38

Contact Horton's Heros on ASC or go to the NIA forums listed in the BC Communtites section. He is not that far away from you guys (relatively speaking) and he may be able to help you out.

Drache June 3rd, 2007 00:47

Horton's Heroes lives in PG, about 3 hours north of where I am at, go there about once every couple months for a trip.

Beazer June 3rd, 2007 03:40

Talk to him then, best bet.
I had close to 200 photos just of the ferry when JOC went down there this year. Problem was I accidentally deleted ALL of them.
I have around 40 minutes of video of our spectacular debacle and i should get them posted somewhere soon.

NachoPuddin June 3rd, 2007 03:51

If you can get this set up and scoped out that would be amazing.

philstructo June 3rd, 2007 04:11

oo yeah this could be a good one a year to plan it out hmm...

ILLusion June 3rd, 2007 04:24

omg... MOUT event. I'd be pretty willing to do it.

An even greater incentive for out of province players (especially coming from eastern Canada) is subsidized entry fees... awwwwwww yeah.

swatt13 June 8th, 2007 17:22

i know a few members of SWAT would be interested (myself, medhatboy and mayebe 2 others)

Drache June 8th, 2007 19:32

Ok so I went down to the ghost town today during the rain and snapped some pics. I will be creating a website along with a map for people to see what the area generally looks like. Some of the buildings obviously cannot be entered due to dangers of collapse but those would be marked off with red ribbon. There is also a single piece of private property (unoccupied) which is sort of almost in the middle of the play area which would be ribboned off as well.

Road Down 1 - Single Lane and Kind of steep
http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/1...s001ck8.th.jpg

Entrance to the gravel pit - This on one side, the ghost town on the other
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2...s002yo7.th.jpg

Looking left in Gravel Pit - Overgrown with trees
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/1...s003au5.th.jpg

Looking right in Gravel Pit - I was standing on the dirt pile at the entrance
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4...s004ma5.th.jpg

One of the many fallen old buildings - Unsafe ones will be ribboned off
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6...s006hi8.th.jpg

One of the many standing buildings - Some still have glass which must be covered for safety reasons - This building is all off by itself next to the one above
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/753...s007no9.th.jpg

Roads are good - Road infront of the building above are like this all throughout the park - to the left is an old cemetary which will be ribboned off as well
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8...s008ar0.th.jpg

Grandstand - just past the cemetary if someone wants a band or show off
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1...s009ou1.th.jpg

Another standing cabin with glass and a locked door
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9...s011jc7.th.jpg

Another collapsed cabin off in the trees - many hidden old buildings and most are not safe to enter though
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/5...s012ya4.th.jpg

What is left of the ghost town - just past the grandstand
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2...s013or8.th.jpg

Close to the river - some of the cabins are within 7 feet of the river bank so players will need to be careful in areas like this
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/3...s015ia9.th.jpg

One of the other standing/rebuilt cabins - this is the one closest to the river
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/5...s016nz7.th.jpg

Inside the cabin above - cant go into the loft but two of the windows are open for good firing positions - window overlooking the river (not shown) has glass
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/714...s018xc7.th.jpg

Another of the many collapsed cabins - must be careful not to push the walls over lol
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2...s020ga9.th.jpg

Another of the rebuilt/standing buildings - Lots of windows and entry points
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4...s021wd0.th.jpg

Inside the cabin above
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/8...022anh7.th.jpg

Another rebuilt/standing building - warning low ceiling lol
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/8...s023jc4.th.jpg

Inside cabin above
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3...s024eg4.th.jpg

Another standing building - this one might be off limits though
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7...025agk6.th.jpg

The Private Property - about 100 feet from the entrance into the gravel pit, between it and the ghost town. Property is only as large as you see in the pic with the lawn. No one lives there.

Drache June 8th, 2007 19:33

I've left out many pics of the trees (THICK!) and the various roads that criss cross the area and I forgot to take pics of the 11 campsites although they are really close to the playing area.

Hortons Heros June 10th, 2007 13:04

Hortons Here,

If everything is as you say with the owners of the area being for us playing on there then count us in. We would love to see something official in writing saying that we have permission to play there though.

Can you post a link to where it is exactly on google maps?

We can help with any area but sounds like registration and game judging would be the big ones. We'll talk more but if it really is a go then we can make a section on the NIA site and start to give out specific jobs and form a sort of committee that would be dedicated to helping with the event. We have a few ex military guys that are fantastic at making long running and milsim (not just lots of games) scenarios.

I work for a kids camp so I am busy for the summer but when were you thinking of running this?

Drache June 10th, 2007 13:17

right now there is no set date and it is not 100% official yet as there is only one person left to get permission from. My uncle runs the society to restore and look after the ghost town and it was even his idea. He is also creating a map of the playing area as well.

The last person wants me to create a webpage and try to get signatures for people who will go and at least get 50 or so. The money raised through registration fees and such will mostly be going to the Quesnel Forks Society to help restore it and also clean up afterwards.

As for a time holding this I was thinking the first weekend in June but I'm open to a better suggestion. Towards the middle and end of June it gets pretty rainy and in May it is way too cold at nights and there is even snow.

mcguyver June 10th, 2007 13:39

Plan for a late July or mid-late August if you wan to have a game there this year.

I can say that a number of guys from my area would go for a unique experience like this. And many more form Alberta and farther east are likely to go as well.

I would be more than willing to help, but my distance from the site is not ideal (I'm about 9+ hours away).

attack-beaver June 10th, 2007 13:57

why not some time in July? that way every that is in school is out for sure its easier to get time off for work and so on.

let me also add this once everything is rock and roll I'll be signing up for this.

just a small favor when it comes to teams, can you make it open camos? because i don't wanna buy a set of camos I'll only where like once.

Drache June 10th, 2007 14:43

Yes it would be open camos.

And this would be taking place NEXT year not this one. If there is a certain time of next year then let me know.

So far I have heard July....

Cushak June 11th, 2007 17:56

I'd be in for coming, be expensive but with enough of us it wouldn't be too bad.

attack-beaver June 11th, 2007 18:19

why not open another thread with some dates idea you had and going to the polls?

Desmodus June 11th, 2007 19:06

This place looks pretty sweet. Be nice to host an epic op over there, given the permission of course.

WarHawk109 June 11th, 2007 21:33

this sounds really cool, you can count me in.

FOX_111 June 11th, 2007 22:21

If it was not on the other side of the world for me, I'd be in 100%.
That place must be awsome for sniping!
