G&P body bit

hey just got a G&P metal body aaand the dust cover doesnt have that lil clip that locks it in place when you close it...is it supposed to be like that or ?

commandojim December 22nd, 2007 22:19

On my G&P M4 Commando the dust cover spring holds the dust cover closed
and to adjust the hop up I have to hold it in the open position.
(That is the way it came from new)No little clip on it.

pawscal December 22nd, 2007 22:43

yeah you have to pry it open and hold it for adjustments

swatt13 December 22nd, 2007 22:52

you can get a magnetic one (if thats not what you got) i believe thats what i got with mine. works just the same, when you pull the ch back, it seperates the magnet from teh metalbody or mechbox.

Goodl2ussian December 22nd, 2007 23:14

cool. thanks, cas thats kinda ghetto...havin to hold it open O.o

Drake December 22nd, 2007 23:48

I have a pet peeve about seeing ARs shot with the dust cover closed, so I ordered G&P "realistic" dust covers for my guns, which are always open. But they look nice.

ThunderCactus December 22nd, 2007 23:51

I mean you adjust your hopup once and your good for the game, plus dust and crap doesnt get all over your hopup chamber, so despite being unrealistic its not really a hassle at all.

Drake December 23rd, 2007 00:08

I dunno, the fake bolt carrier -ish thing keeps most of the dirt out.

All the G&P's I've owned/worked on don't have that faux bolt. The cylinder and hop-up are immediately visible when you open the dust cover. The charging handle does nothing unlike on a Marui or ICS for example.

The G&P aftermarket bodies do come with one (unfairly, I happened to know GoodRussian was using an aftermarket one since we briefly discussed his trouble with the BOYI body and he tipped me off on some nice deals on G&Ps over at A&A).

If you care to have one, I have one G&P body that came from a donor G&P gun amd I was able to use a spare TM bolt carrier and it worked fine (along with bits from the TM charging handle)... so it's easily added.

mcguyver December 23rd, 2007 00:23

I guess if you are using a non-G&P mechbox, there'd be room. The G&P 7mm renforced mechboxes that come with the complete guns are a pretty tight fit. I supposed anything is possible with a Dremel and some time.

Goodl2ussian December 23rd, 2007 00:44

Thing is...i tried putting the TM dust cover on unfortunately its wider than the G&P one...

My biggest box is the Systema 7mm, was able to fit it with that (I guess they were meant to fit TM though). Don't have the G&P one anymore, so I can't compare it unfortunately.

Yeah I was referring to the fake bolts. The dust covers are completely different sizes. This is the one I ended up getting for my G&P bodies, it's always open instead of always closed, which I prefer.

Hey drake that one you got you said it stays open all the time? O.o you sure? haha srry dunno if you miss typed or something plus...i wanna find one that when i pull the charging handle itll actually pop it open.

swatt13 December 23rd, 2007 13:54

well to be honest the only metal body ive found to allow the charging handle/ dust cover mechanism to work it a hurricane, or a stock ca. usually, esspecially with a tm, an after market metal body is the trade off fornon functional dust cover.

El Cactus Loco December 23rd, 2007 18:02

my G&P dust cover never worked, just was always in the open position. kinda lame actually.....

pawscal December 23rd, 2007 18:08

The dboys metal bodys allow the chargeing handle to open the dust cover.

Goodl2ussian December 23rd, 2007 18:40

yea ...im gonna see if i can swap the dboys upper in for the G&P one =P

Yeah, it's made like a real one (so the "pin" is to big for it to close, because the bolt carrier cover doesn't have a notch deep enough). You could technically have the one that came with your body stay open all the time by reversing how the spring is installed.

I tried, they aren't 100% compatible, unfortunately. You'd have to dremel up the upper and/or lower. The quality of the finish on the DBOYS receiver wasn't quite as nice either, and some of the sizings aren't quite right.

I actually modified a DBOYS receiver to "fix it up" a bit (minus making it fit on a G&P lower). I'll trade you for a G&P upper if you want :P
