Starting Out

I'm looking to get my first airsoft gun. Hoping for a metal AK47 AEG, reliable, but under $300. Sound feasable?

Any retailers in Ontario where I could go to check out the guns first hand?
I live in Waterloo but have reading week this coming week and am not afraid of driving far to check something out.

Below 300 your looking at something chinasoft, from history not that good.
Or if your looking at 300$ + Importation/middleman than thats about RS type 54 stuff which is like far as I know using same composition as the real Type 54 material (Type 54 is China's AK47)

compramise for ALL metal and get a Kraken Ak, you can turn it all metal and it will save you money.

+1

To put it blatantly, You're not going to get anything metal, or a decent AEG (without some work) for under 450... Even at 450 you need quite a bit of know-how and the ability to do it yourself.

Name Marui AK47
Description Tokyo Marui AK 47

Gear Box: Version 3
Motor: EG-700
Price US$ 222.00 Weight 3700g

http://uncompany.com/pageproduct.asp?L3catid=209

So, something like that is impossible to get in Canada for under $450?
Its twice the money here?

Andres February 15th, 2008 01:34

Twice and then some... then you gotta buy batteries and chargers and eye protection and mags and your wallet's funeral.

However, I can point you in the direction of some AK's that comes with a battery and charger for 300.

Or you could go the Kraken route.

TokyoSeven February 15th, 2008 01:35

Due to costs of import fees, taxes and frieght and profit for the seller, it costs a little more for the buyer to get something in Canada because of our laws in regards to replicas and how airsoft sits currently.

NATOAho February 15th, 2008 01:39

Hmm... ok... thanks.
Any info on stores in Toronto or nearby that sell them?

TokyoSeven February 15th, 2008 01:43

Nothing that I know of thats walk in and buy, but thats not my area so I wouldnt know. Closest place online shop wise would maybe be shootsoft.
http://shootsoft.ca/

There prices are reasonable, they dont carry anything high end as of right now, but they do carry some reasonable midranged aegs.

NATOAho February 15th, 2008 01:46

These Krakens, they all come with Orange tip?
I take it they're pretty good quality then? Won't break after a light tussle in the woods?

It's a little more than twice, it's about 2.5X

Your best route would be to get age verified and buy from the classifieds.

skalnok February 15th, 2008 01:58

krakens seem to be a pretty good buy if you dont mind buying some parts to make it more real looking int he end.

NATOAho February 15th, 2008 02:04

Where do people get most of these said parts from?

www.airsoftparts.ca or www.redwolfairsoft.com (DO NOT BUY A GUN FROM REDWOLF, It will be seized and destroyed, and you will never get your money back)

Make sure you have the know-how to upgrade and work on the gun yourself.. if you don't, you'll just end up fucking things up.

There's more likely than not a local gun doctor that can help you out.

The Saint February 15th, 2008 06:04

You're over 18, right? If you're in Waterloo, you might want to come to the game this coming Monday, the 18th. We'll be able to answer a lot of your questions in person, you'll get to meet the type of people you'd be playing with, get to see some weapons, maybe even play a bit if someone's willing to rent you a gun.
