li-po battery
 

hey just wondering if you guys think this is a good battery. i dont really know anything about batteries and less about li-po's. it has too high voltage i think and not much more mah than an average 8.4 nimh.

Thats what will happen if you buy shit lipo batteries and a charger that isn't meant for charging them. But what do you mean is it a good battery, what do you plan on using it in? Don't skimp out..

As long as you have the proper charger you should be fine.

I wouldn't recommend it. From my latest li-po vs. NiMH tests, this won't work better than a big sub-C 7 cell 3700MaH battery. For a LiPo, the cost is good - but is it a good long-lasting battery??? I don't know the manufacturer. I hate the quality of chinese batteries - I've had nothing but bad luck at work and at home.

You'd also need to buy LiPo charging and balancing (ie. Blinky) equipment. Normal chargers will not work!

(Not slamming LiPo's, I own 10 and use them all the time up to 270Watts in R/C.)

i dont know what its volts or mah is but evike has this one listed as 11.1v 1500mah. so thats what i have if this is the same set up i got. i would imagine i could charge this li-po with its charger.
it costs a lot less than the nimh 9.6 and 8.4 batteries. i only wonder if it would wear out my krakens gearbox. i kinda think yea it would if it does what the li-po does with my ika zuchi

I use the same brand of Li-Po(Firefox) since January.

A lot of people are using Li-Pos now for R/C Planes... after seeing what happens in a crash with a Li-Po.. I don't think I want to use them. In airsoft I can't see them offering any advantage over standard cells.

+1. I switched all my guns to LiPo. I run a Firefox 12C, 11.1v 1200Mah tri-stick in all my M4-based guns:

It fits perfectly in the handguards, even in places where a butterfly pack won't fit (ie: an TM RIS with a reinforced 1-piece outer barrel) and gives a crazy ROF.

wow... and that can happen in your gun? what would it take to cause that in your gun?
my chrager charges mine in i think less than an hour. i couldnt believe how quick it was

I've been in the R/C hobby for the past 8 years and have watched it grow and advance since then. Li-Po batteries, when compared with NiMH batteries of the same caliber, provide more amperage (power) at a quicker and more consistent rate (not using technical terms), in short they have a much higher discharge rate, major downfall is Li-Po cut-off voltages of course must be pampered (given you don't have a cut-off device).

So I guess this is my point:

Pros-Longer lasting battery (usually)
-Higher discharge rate (more power)
-much lighter in weight


Cons-Cut-Off voltage to worry about
-Can be very expensive up front
-Li-Po is till not 100% stable
-Specific chargers needed


Thats all I can think of for airsoft uses, feel free to edit and add guys.

Hey, I would recommend charging your Li-Po at a constant of 1C, meaning if your pack is 1500MaH charge at 1.5amps, 2700MaH charge at 2.7amps, and so on. It should always take an hour to charge your Li-Po safely.

Unless you are blowing up a LiPo on purpose, the scale of what you have to do wrong to get it to blow accidentally will more than kill a NiMh pack. I have never heard of a LiPo pack exploding except on purpose, when idiots use them (wrong chargers and such), and super cheap Chinese brand ones.

Firefox is one of the best from what I have read, good quality but some Chinese companies label their packs "Firefox" but they aren't, so buy from a reputable retailer.

Advantage over NiMh? I can get 11.1V and almost 3000mAh into the size of a mini 8.4V NiMh, for the size of a large 8.4V NiMh I can get 9900mAh (yeah, overkill, I know.)

Do I use LiPo? Nope, I own too many expensive NiMh packs for it to be worth it for me to switch over, and my only guns are a PTW (official SystemA batteries), and a STAR M60 (massive battery compartment) so I have no need. Those that run guns with mini batteries and high fps upgrades its really worth it.

They are fast charging (usually 4-5A) a LiPo pack with a NiCd charger.

I am using LiPo's in my guns since 2003. Never had any problem.

And for your information, go look-out the tests that the ROAR (international RC organisation) put the LiPo to before saying it is dangerous.

Some examples:

-Drop the pack from 5' on a concret floor.
-Intentionally over-charging the pack.
-Driving a nail throught the pack and watch it NOT explode.
-Over-heat the pack.

The packs that are aproved are passing all the tests without any significant damage to the surroundings. That mean that if a failure has to happen INSIDE your gun, it won't do shit.

Don't get the "FireFox" pack you shown. Looks like a crappy copy.

Zippy packs are know to be one of the best around.
You need at least 15C when you look for packs. That "FireFox" pack is a weak 12C. It probably won't be enought for an upgraded gun, might work for a short time on a stock one.

just to let you know i dont know anything bout li-po just did a little research on them and found that...

I just bought a set up with a a 2400mah lipo for about $160. Im a little paranoid that its going to screw my mechbox so i use only semi when i have a lipo in my gun. But you get insane trigger response, a lot more than my 3800 mah nimh. So far only good things to say.
