Where do you play CQB?
Like the titles says, I'd like to know how you guys play your indoor CQB games.
I'd love to be able to rent out a warehouse or something where we could get together for some battles. Anyone ever do something like that? |
Xtreme Tactics here in Winnipeg.

Out East we have 'the Mill' which is basically an abandoned paper mill. It's VERY big. I'd be curious to know what the square footage is. There's 2 stories of offices, and 2 other floors of very large rooms and off to one side is a paintball area. It's about 200 meters x 150 meters for 2 floors + basement (not used) and about 80 metres x 150 metres for the top 2 floors which is the office space.
Here's some pics :http://www.pbase.com/chef40/cure&page=all http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=53998 And video : YouTube - The Mill Febuary 16/08 |

Awesome indoor field, well worth the 2hr drive to get there from Ottawa. |
We have a couple of places to play CQB in Melville Sask, a school and a hospital. Both Run by Camogames.
|
Nothing available that I am aware of here in Victoria. There was one person who played with us once mentioned he had something lined up but we haven't heard anything since.
|
Here in BC, there was a decommissioned ferry, in which we can play on. Right now, there is an indoor area to play games in Richmond, BC. That place is called AK and it was originally for paintballing. The owner is trying to get the license to change it to an airsoft area. Not sure if AK is open yet... Finally I've heard of some place in the lower mainland where you can play cqb in a tower?

I had always considered the idea of renting a warehouse to play, splitting the costs with others. If there was a large enough population of airsofts it would be considerable, however for me in my city its not. Cost of renting was the smallest of the issues though, approaching anyone with a proposal to rent and then attempting to explain to them the premise on which why you want to rent it can sometimes get you a flat out no as well. One can only imagine what can happen in airsoft, walls get broken,, windows get shot up,other stuff gets shot up....in some instances even blown up. After that theres insurance. Thats what really put me off, I checked with a few brokerages in regards to setting up insurance for something like that and they refered me to a small handful of companies that specialise in insurance for things like airsoft, but well more specifically paintball. We reviewed policeys and coverage and the recommended liability was suggested to be 5 million at minimum. Total cost for a year was over 3000 dollars. Sure you can skip over insurance, but you never know what can happen. The guys you play with may seem like a good bunch that would never sue you for anything but all that can change when someone loses a testicle...or a spleen.

the kill tower you speak of was in abbotsford b.c. due to safety issues and some health issues the games at this location were quickly abandoned. this was over two years ago. after the kill tower there was the ferryboat here in mission b.c. it is the decommisioned "queen of sidney" that ran for the better part of a year and a half. there are still sporadic battles at this location but nothing like it used to be. here are two of my videos from the most recent games i ran at the ferryboat. day game: http://files.filefront.com/rainbowsi.../fileinfo.html night game: http://files.filefront.com/fear+of+t.../fileinfo.html the ferryboat has its fair share of health issues. sadly due to black mold, mildew, and general dry rot this is the only way i can be on the ferryboat for any length of time. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e258/six4/mask.jpg like i said ,games are still held here but they are few and far between. as far as i know there are no other cqb areas in my region. |

You bring up a good point. The major obstacle is liability and insurance. A lot of people would not volunteer their property for people to risk injury, without insurance. But $3000 a year doesn't sound terrible. I'm curious to know if the owner of 'the mill' has insurance of some sort? And what fees are charged to the players, if any? |
Another hump was approval for insurance as well, just because an application was submitted does not mean it would be approved.

It's an expensive outing since the field fee+gas money usually puts you at at least $50 if you're one of the folks coming from Ontario...however it's absolutely worth it. I can't imagine there being a better place than the Mill for CQB inside of Canada. The UK has a castle I think, hence why I just said Canada ;) |

Last summer a group of us headed up 2 hours north of Pickle Lake to play at an abandoned community called Stirland Lake. With loads of abandoned homes, office building and gymnasium, we had plenty of variation. This year it's going to be just as fun. We've been given permission to play at an abandoned radar base in Sioux Lookout. Too bad there isn't a larger group of people playing airsoft up here or we'd really have a party.

in my basement ... i wish
|
Most people in Toronto play CQB games at TTAC3 at the Fighting Arts Collective.
|
Winnipeg has an indoor arena called Xtreme Tactics. Its a pretty good setup with a nice range of rental gear and a SICK! showroom. I try to go once per month and it costs between 25-50 dollars for rentals
|
I live in Winnipeg but I'm sick of xtreme tactics super close quarters maze combat. Used to be good but recently it's been a mandatory pistol range so I stopped going a few months ago. Now the only place I play CQB is in MELVILLE!! cause it ROCKS! and its actual CQB in a building, not tag in a tight budget maze.

I think ASC needs a field trip to Combat South over in the UK: http://www.combatsouth.co.uk/csu/ Bloody nice set up they have there (the woodland site is nice too). |
Try playing in a bathroom. Wait til someone's pinching a loaf then throw in some goggles and start shooting. They can either wipe fast or run dirty.
This is reason #744 for locking the bathroom door. |
Another set of pictures from the Mill in Beauharnois, QC.
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...039#post744039 There is also the "basement" part, with little or no lights in some spots, dripping water, "the woyks". Awesome place to play. 4 stories, so you get a good variation of settings. |
Do the property owners of The Mill allow under 18 airsofters to play and if so what is the scedule like for games?
Cheers, Drew |

I realize this is a very old thread, but since it's been woken up again, I'll say to the players out west that you will all have another large indoor CQB venue to play in very shortly. Details will be out after my Operation Mason Relic II event in May.

Start learning to use the forums. There is an Events section. But, for your own benefit, go read the FAQs. Be patient young padawan, watch and learn. Tough, depending on your age and the way you behave, you "MIGHT", with an adult parent attending, be allowed to take pictures during games. And then, that is if the organiser says it's ok. |

There is a roller skating arena that let's us rent, before that was an old elementary school gym that belonged to the kinsmen. Rent is usually around $130 per night 7pm till whenever we leave. They let us store our ply wood walls there between games.
|
OFS plays here www.battlefrontpaintball.com and we hosted an event in a school in 2008. Since then a few old prisons have become available. One was the place they filmed shawshank redemption in.. but my favorite is Operation Irene at zussman training facility in ft knox :fro:

The rent was too high to keep both fields, so they closed the indoor field. I know this because I worked there. As for the outdoor field closing, I didn't hear anything about that.
|
Nobody said anything about the outdoor field closing.
Heard the building was sold for condo development. |
