TF 16 (Tactical Force 16)

So I was roaming Bass Pro's when I saw the Tf16 this looking at me and asking me to buy it...

Upon arriving home I opened this Hybrid of a clearsoft and an Airsoft and got down to testing it.

The results and impressions:

The Cons and sort-of-cons,

-the main body is clear and not made from the type of plastic that for example the TM g36c is, however, it holds up if you don’t abuse and bang the gun on walls or ground when during play.

- the quad rails and the fore grip are plastic. They are pretty solid though, a word of advise is if you get the TF16 switch the positions of the top of the fore grip with the bottom. What that does is completely eliminate any movement and makes it a solid piece.
- The flashider is red, nothing that good old paint can wont cover up…
- The Crane stock, although very well made and solid, does have some back and forth movement (around 2mm) when locked into any of the 3 positions (3 position stock).
- The batteries aren’t bad if you are using them as an emergency power supply in case you are screwed during a game, otherwise I don’t recommend using it. I’m going to buy intellect ones soon and update the performance difference it has on the gun.

Pros

- The gearbox is a V2, or at least a very very good clone of it, it is from the looks of it compatible with TM and CA parts. I had no problem replacing swapping with a CA spring guide and pump. I wouldn’t recommend replacing anything though ( I only did it to see if its compatible) because the gearbox is actually in my opinion better than a stock CA M15A4.
- The box advertises 380 fps, I ran it through a chrony and got 378+ with 12 grams, and 363-368 with 20grams. Either way shoots harder than stock TM or CA gearboxes.
- I didn’t feel comfortable taking the hop-up out but its working well so far, the backspin is very good and after about 500 bb’s had very little impact on readjusting the hop up. (the little plastic gears to adjust the hop up do not move mach and are actually very solid and take some effort to move them).
- The rail on the top receiver is metal, good stuff, it also acts as a brace to hold the top receiver together, very smart on the manufacturers part.
- The plat that holds the motor the grip is also metal.
- The barrel looks like a brass one, and has an aluminum tube holding it in place.
- When you cock the cocking leaver ejection port opens, cock it a second time, and the hop up adjustment gets exposed, pretty neat.
- Splits in half like the real thing.
-gun comes with a vertical grip, which I don’t recommend using since the rails are plastic, a nice hard pull and something is bound to break. So how is the vertical grip a pro? You can use it on your primary shooters, since it will hold up good.

Overall impressions.

For 130 bucks after tax, Im impressed.

This thing can definitely serve as a backup and even a primary if you are doing some CQB all day. It is pretty solid and will make you happy you spent only 130 on it since you get quiet a bit for the money.

Viewing from another angle….A compatible V2 which does a nice 363-368fps can be used on one of your TM’s or a CA series, so if this one breaks, you have a solid mechbox to use, even for a project if youd like.

If the body cracks, or breaks, looks at what you have,
- V2 mechbox
- Metal rail,
- Crane stock
- Vertical grip
- A plastic mag
- And a barrel,
All these things would cost you more to buy than the gun itself, so definitely worth it.

Conclusively, a good backup gun, even a project/parts gun, can also be used for primary play (if you want to tag a friend along and let them use it).

performance 8.5/10
body 5/10
insides 8.5/10
price 10/10
fps 10/10 (comparined to other stock tm and ca airsoft guns.

Il post a video up on you tube hopefully soon, along with pictures.

Im getting a CA m15 soon ( I had two last year and were great shooters), Il run a full compatibility test on those and update the page.

Good to see youre still alive and kickin' mate ;)

FYI TM guns fire around 280 out of the box for most regular AEGs, so yours fires below that.

Also - pictures please!

Cheers,
Alex

BORDENSNIPER June 9th, 2008 12:05

CORRECTION

CORRECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!

it fires 363-368fps

The Saint June 9th, 2008 12:07

The corrected number makes a lot more sense. Price?

BORDENSNIPER June 9th, 2008 12:10

130

good price

Skladfin June 15th, 2008 17:14

nice review, Im considering one of those ...

please tell us of any more updates!

paramedic June 15th, 2008 22:59

where did you grab this gun for 130 plus tax?

EDIT: stupid question, no idea how I passed the ontario literacy test

BORDENSNIPER June 16th, 2008 20:52

ok, so the battery is shit confirmed since it kept jamming the gun (spring wouldnt release),

so i used the crackens battery also shit but works for now to test the upgrades.

i bought a large crane stock batt (thanks to Huang), and shoved it in, that thing isnt coming out lol so il be charging it inside the stocl lolz.

I upgraded the nozzle so far, to a double inner o-ring accuracy improved greatly.

plans:

-ball bearings
-polycarbonare piston
-ball bearing spring guide

updates will follow.

ancorp June 16th, 2008 21:15

Just get metal bushings, not bearings. I hear they don't last.

Now (8:52am) I placed the battery in the gun, put it on full-auto, held the trigger but.. it doesn't seem to work ;\ Is it a broken fuse ? Please help me :) It's my first airsoft rifle.

You might want to post this in the doctor's corner instead of muddling up a review thread with it.

BORDENSNIPER June 17th, 2008 20:24

not awsome yet....

just swap some parts and itll equal to alittle better than stock TM.

-metal bushings
-bearing spring guide
-polycarbonate piston w/h piston head (bearing)
-ca hop up unit or a pro win.
-nozzle

and obviously a brand new battery and charger.

paint it...

LeetG June 17th, 2008 20:50

Does your gun double feed when it's on Semi-Auto ?
Oh btw, I got a full black one :)
It's pretty sweet.

BORDENSNIPER June 17th, 2008 20:57

no.

it shouldnt.

BORDENSNIPER June 17th, 2008 23:03

grab it by the tip of the barrel, and hit it against the ground like a rockstart would toa guitar. It will reveal the tactical insides lolz.

DONT DO THAT!

but for real, heres wat u do:

1 there are 2 pins located on the almost middle of the gun body, push them out.

then grab on to the top recievers rails, and pull up HARD. the top reciever should come off.

from there do whatever u want.

How do you know when you wind it too much ?
I put it on semi and it sometimes shoots 2 bb's -.- and the second one flies out of the way from where I'm pointing at.
It's annoying >.<

You can't overwind a magazine. And that actually doesn't sound like a magazine problem. It sounds more like an alignment problem with the hop-up.

BORDENSNIPER June 18th, 2008 22:02

well today I was gonna plug n play my new batt, and fucking fried the fuse....now i need to go search for a fuse, and longer wires since a 9.6 v 2000 mah just barely fits into the crane stock....grrrr...frustrating

Oh okay, sorry, I didn't know ;\
Can I get some more help on this then ?
It would be nice, thanks.

Aww damn, that sucks..
Oh btw, do I need to wait till the battery is dead to charge it or can I just charge it like that ? Just wondering because I've seen a few reviews on Youtube and some batteries don't require 'dead mode' to charge.

BORDENSNIPER June 22nd, 2008 00:36

Just to update...

-finished rewiring...took out the fuse.

-tried my firefix 8.4 1500 mah large batt that illl be useing for the AK and it worked perfect on the m4.

-just waiting to go and buy more female connectors so that i can get the wall charger to charge the crane 9.6v 2000mah.

-so far, gun shoots great, since theres no fuse, im gonna keep it running mostly on semi and very very short bursts of auto.

-most probably im getting bushings, poly carb bearing piston head and ball bearinf spring guide...or instead of those ill just add on to some money and buy a metal body for the m4...

BORDENSNIPER June 22nd, 2008 01:56

so far very happy with the gun,

but, by the end of the next 2 weeks, the money i put into it will equal to a JG, stock gun, so unless u like messing around and customizing a gun dont buy it, but if you want to learn and make a custom sleeper, then go ahead boys and girls.

BORDENSNIPER June 23rd, 2008 20:03

dropping in bushings tommorow, piston head. Metal body soon.

so far performing very well.

Skladfin June 23rd, 2008 23:24

which brand of metal body?

interested in the fitment

BORDENSNIPER June 24th, 2008 17:29

no clue yet, whateve Huang's gonna have thats wat im getting.

under 150$ hopefully

MillerBRo June 24th, 2008 21:05

very cool review. I am also one of those twisted fans of taking crappy clear stuff and seeing how far I can tweak them into being the best AEG they can be and I was curious about this gun- good to know there is another project if I get bored of my current ones :D

BORDENSNIPER June 25th, 2008 08:59

lol, in the end,,,the onl thing remaining will be the mechbox....from the original gun....oh and the crane stock...

TF16

Hey I tried buying 2 TF-16's online from the states, but they cancelled my order cause they aren't allowed to sell black guns to canada?
Can you get the TF-16 in clear? Where?
ARG This is so frustrating I want this gun!!!

airborneboi69 June 26th, 2008 13:29

get user verified and access the buy sell section thats the best thing to do

I know, I was reposting it

Kingsix July 2nd, 2008 01:35

I just got A TF-16 compared to the kraken it sucks. Not as sturdy as a kraken but it'll make a better CQB gun due to size. Kraken has more metal content than TF-16 but if you are puny person than TF-16 is more suited to you because of weight and size.

BORDENSNIPER July 2nd, 2008 08:57

very true, its very light.

the gun is mainly for cqb, parts, renting, or backup.

im gonna test it in a game at FR this coming sat if i go

Kingsix July 2nd, 2008 23:08

Well I fired my TF-16 finally. It's accuracy is alot worse than I expected, even my crapsoft springer pistol shoots straighter. The plastic body is really really really bad had a crack right out of the box. As for a loner weapon you have to really really hate the guy you are loaning it too because of it's inaccuracy and if you rent it god bless the guy that is renting it. Every once and a it misfires and bb's rolls out of the barrel. For you Newbies out there DO NOT BUY the TF-16 unless you want to really upgrade it. It does not shoot fine out of the box the accuracy well make the guys at the local field laugh until there is no tomorrow. When the fire selector is set to semi automatic it does not fire until you move it almost halfway from semi automatic to full automatic. The metal is low grade I belive zinc. The kraken actually has steel parts and not zinc <potmetal> The kraken is a better buy than the TF-16 as a starting weapon! Time to mod it!

So after all the labour, frustration and cash spent
on internal/external parts and better batteries—

I would say you'd be better off buying a gun like
the KWA M4 and others on that level that Mopic
has for around $400–550, and save yourself the
time. Or if you like a challenge, then just buy a
JG mechbox, and build your own custom M4 from
quality parts. What do you think?

Hehe, he just bought a KWA not too long ago. Good way to go. One awesome gun, and one project gun to learn on, nothing wrong with it.

safx July 3rd, 2008 11:45

Yep, I noticed he had a KWA in his sig,
so I wanted to know his thoughts on
whether he regrets the experience or not.

I've built plenty of M4's over the past
couple years and I still find it cheaper
to get exactly what you want that way.

Damn that KWA sounds tempting though...

BORDENSNIPER July 3rd, 2008 12:14

lol the TF i mainly bought because well, it was on the shelf and had a v2.

I dont regret buying it since it works fine after the upgrades and is good to bash around or have it as a secondary.

Im mainly gonna use it as a secondary and or for parts,

motor is good, gearbox is good, barrel is good, cranestock is good, highcap is also good. all those would cost u more than the 119 i paid for it.

my main guns are the KWA and the Kraken.

I bought one from the local army surplus store and all I had to do was tweek the hop-up slightly and it shoots perfect with .2g bbs. Mine is accurate from 100ft. + so maybe its just yours

Kittylover1234 August 8th, 2008 12:58

ive been looking around and i cant find spare magazines for the TF16 and i was wondering if there is a place to get them? if so where?

LeetG August 8th, 2008 13:03

Contact UmarexUSA on their site.
Edit : They're $16.95 + S&H $9.95. Lawl.. shitty mags tho the feeding is so crappy. Trying to find out what mag can fit on it.

theguy August 8th, 2008 13:07

I thought i heard that if you switch out the hop up, you can use standard mags...

TForce16 August 8th, 2008 21:11

I have a Tf16 and whenever I put it on full auto, it only shoots like 2 or 3 bbs, then just stops shooting. Is this because the gun is faulty, or is there sumtin I can fix?

Kingsix August 10th, 2008 02:28

TF-16 stock parts are pretty shaddy. The hopup on mine was more like plastic than rubber. Could be just jamming.

TForce16 August 10th, 2008 12:39

what do I need to fix, and how do I do it?

sniperonspeed September 28th, 2008 03:19

can you buy a full metal conversion kit for this gun? I have it and the plastic body broke, So if you could help me, it would be greatley appreciated!

Muffin September 28th, 2008 12:44

It would be a horrible waste of money seeing as you'd need to replace EVERYTHING. If your 18+ look into getting age verified so you'll have access to the B&S section, where real airsoft is sold.

Combine September 29th, 2008 19:55

Watch the stock on that thing, its going to break.

I had basically the same thing but spring version (it looks IDENTICAL) but had a normal m4 stock.

It broke off quite easily, I dont know maybe this one is of better materials.

Kusco September 29th, 2008 22:53

well, I am going to be using this gun as my loaner for my buddy (just ordered me a KWA km4s from mopics). This gun feels like a pos, but reading your thread made me somewhat optimistic about this gun.

I was advised to to upgrade the hop-up and get better batteries, just wondering what would be the best battery to get for this and what hop-up unit i will go good into this and where to order these items from?

on a side note. I would have no idea how to upgrade it though. i am assuming I can find some information on mechbox.com ?

MADDOG September 30th, 2008 00:45

Does this have a one piece metal outer barrel front end?

BORDENSNIPER September 30th, 2008 01:23

USE IT AS A LONER GUN

DONT TOUCH IT leave it the way it is...

I ended up useing the gearbox and the stock for my project gun....

this gun is good as a rental and a backup.

if u want replace the things stated other than that dont do external mods...

what would be the best hopup unit to use for this gun?

BORDENSNIPER September 30th, 2008 11:01

u can use G&G...it will take minor mods to fit it in though..mostly filing. maybe get longer screws that hold the tip of the muzzle under the handgrip so that they hold the barrel tight.

best advice: leave the gun stock. use a diferent battery and thats it, the internal upgrades that should be done are nozzle, bb spring guide and bushings. other than that leave it stock.

dont use or play with it too much, only in games use it it should last u a while.

it lasted me a few months until a took it apart..and thats with constant gaming and loaning.

Kusco September 30th, 2008 13:33

thing keeps jamming though once in awhile. What batteries are best recommended?

BORDENSNIPER September 30th, 2008 14:00

it james cause the stock mag is POS...just deal with it...use it for bursts and such....unless u find a compatible mag.

best batteries are anything other than the stock one. i.e. Firefox..Sanyo..tenergy

Christo November 7th, 2008 23:41

Bolt

I bought the clear version of the gun at www.airgunsource.com for 130$ around. I pretty happy with it, but there's a couple of things that piss me off. The two bolts located in the middle of the gun, to remove the half of the gun, keeps on getting loose and falls of,, Is this a company error or did i just screw it up?? Another thing is the stock sucks, its really loose. It jams all the time. It just doesnt look sturdy.

TF-16 shooting high

Hi,

I bought a TF-16 to have some fun indoors. I got a crossman electronic target which detect the impact of the BB and mark points according. Anyway my problem is that no matter how I tweak the elevation control the gun will shoot high. I check hop up and it's all the way counter clockwise so no hop up. The problem happen at any distance and the farther I go the hgher it hits the target.

any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

LocoGatillo

Strelok December 11th, 2009 18:55

Sounds like the gun is cranked up high for hopup.

Well, thats what you should expect from cheap guns. The hopup is probably damaged from the sound of it, if its anything like a marui, should be as easy as just popping the front and back pins out, remove the upper receiver, and slide the hopup and barrel out.

After you do that, look down the barrel and check if you can see a little lump poking out near the back and move the wheel. If the little bump doesnt move, its either jammed or broken.

Use heavier BB's. You should be using at least 0.20 weight, for outdoors though 0.25 or 0.28

Benfidel March 15th, 2010 12:28

ok i also own one of these...i am wondering how do i get to gearbox..and what is length of barrel for barrel upgrade.....and with .25 outta box this thing is great..just want to boost it alittle..

Hey, I am relatively new to airsoft. I bought a Tactical Force TF16 from a buddy, and it worked great. But I have kinda the same problem. The clip seems to have been overwound, and it just happened with my aftermath AK47 also, kinda at the same game. Do I just go get new clips? And if so, does anyone know of some good places, cause I can't seem to find any that sell TF16 mags....

Feel free to email me at Hitman960@Hotmail.com.

Feel free to email me at Hitman960@Hotmail.com.

First, its a magazine, not a clip. And no, this isn't arguing semantics -a clip and a magazine are not the same device.

Second, hi-caps are designed so you can't overwind them. More likely it just broke because of poor quality. Any m4 mag should work in the tf-16 (i think) and any AK mag should work in the AK. Make note though that these guns aren't built to the tolerances of more expensive airsoft guns, so you may have fitment issues with the magazines.

Well, I can tell you right now STAR magazines won't work in the Kraken, way too loose.

Okay, I have an SR16 that takes roughly the same size of MAGAZINE, but it doesn't fit. I know its lower end, I was just hoping maybe someone knew of a canadian website that would have them. I am taking too long getting this done, and wasting good playing time.

I've bought two in the past year and they all have had teh same problem. After a while they just stop firing, no noise nothing when you pull the trigger. The first time it happened during warranty so I took it back to Bass Pro, but this time it was out of warranty.

Anybody with any ideas as to what could be wrong...I am assuming it's the motor but was wondering if anybody has any suggestions.

thanks

Just so you all know, and i know its been 2 years since the last comment. I got one of the last TF 16 from BassPro that were on clearance. They stopped producing these, well at least thats what BassPro told me, they said they won't be carrying these AEGs anymore. I've had 2 for the past year. My first one had a huge crack in the plastic body, and then i returned it. I got a new one and its been running for a year. What surprised me is that when I went to go play at UA (limit of 350 FPS), my TF 16 was shooting at 400 FPS ... So I ended up playing with a rental. The gearbox seems to be V2, so thats a pro. The battery and charger are crap, so replace those. Crane stock wobbles a lot. And if you shoot on semi, the gun would jam every 20-30 bbs. But for the price (I think it was $120 or $110?) its worth it as a back up gun or even as a rental to your friends. I honestly am new to airsoft and waiting on my AV status, but I think a good way to learn internals for me would be to open this M4 up.

Overall Score (comparing to stock G&G M4) : 6.5/10
