Swapping Grip on an Armalite

Just wondering if anyone has step by step instructions (preferably pictures, no video since Im on dialup) on how to swap the pistol grip on an armalite for another.

I did do a quick search but this site is huge.....

Simple matter of:

1- Remove Grip plate
2- Remove motor
3- Unscrew grip from mechbox
4- Replace old with new
5- Repeat 1 - 3 in Reverse.
6 adjust new motor plate screw

Dont forget about the little metal disc!

This what your looking for?

Drache June 10th, 2008 16:30

pretty much although pictures would help lol! What little metal disc? :-P

Dusti69 June 10th, 2008 16:32

the metal disc at the bottom of the motor where you adjust the motors height i think.
i just found that out a few days ago from amos. i was amazed

Its painless man, nothing to it. Just take it appart, and put it back, wires, disc, ect exactly how you took em out. The little disc goes between the motor adjust screw and the bottom of the motor itself.

It's always a good idea to take pictures while you are removing things so you have a reference as to how it goes back in. Make sure the wires go in the exact same way or you might end up pinching the wires or not being able to adjust the motor properly later.

Well I got the old one off, went to put the new one on and the f'in thing doesn't fit! Whomever told me a G27 grip fits a JG416 perfectly was lying!

I just put one on my buddies gun.. Works perfect. G27's are a bit tough to get on and require a bit of force, but it should work just fine.

Yeah I got it on but not the problem lies in trying to hook the motor up....

Drache June 10th, 2008 17:13

well just my luck I broke one of the ends of the wires that attaches to the motor so the gun will have to be sent off to some gun doc if I can find one.

Should go back the exact same way as u took it out, as long as u put the wires in the correct hole, the red circles around the motor shaft hole, and up the back, reattach the leads, disc, and put the grip plate back on.

If you read the post above yours the damn plug (that attaches to the motor) ripped out of the wire. So I need to send it off to a gun doc if I can find one in BC.

I don't think that requires a doc. You could do the make-shift fix and tape it, or solder the peices back together. Or, simply just buy another barcket and attach it to your wire.

EDIT: if its only been pulled out of the clip then just solder or tape it back on.

My bad, I missed that post. if you wanna save yourself that headache, ive had that happen before, Canadian Tire has small crimp on clips to replace it with, just a matter of stripping the wire, pushing the ew plug on, crimping it tight with plyers. I recomend taking off thr plastic casing on the clip, getting some small heat shrink, and covering the whole thing with that for insulation and strength.

Not much to it, would save your gun a trip to a gun doc and money.. But up to u if ur up for it.

You guys seem to forget that its a 3.5-4 hour return trip just to go to town for me to get the clip. AKA $50 worth of gas....

Actually I didnt know that ;) haha, wow that sucks.. hmm only think I can figure for u is to try and repair it urself, if the lead just pulled off, u might be able to twist the wires tight, and slip it back on, use plyers to crimp it and tape.. Make best of it if u can. Ive fixed em countless times, only time I resorted to getting a new one is when there was nothing left of the clip itself lol.

The clip was busted in half inside the black plastic/tape covering. The easiest way is to just find a gun doc to repair it, reshim it, and maybe install a tightbore barrel into the damn thing.

Here's an almost done picture of it except it's missing the silencer that wont arrive until next week.

True, I guess it would be best for u to get it all done at once. Hope u can find someone local so u dont get raped on shipping it too far. Id volonteer to do the work for u reasonable, but thats a bit far, your best to find someone alot closer.

Good luck man

Drache June 10th, 2008 17:54

If my "luck" decides to return from the strip club it must have gone to, I should be able to ship it 4 hours north to a friend in Prince George.

Drache June 10th, 2008 23:00

Ok my luck took a dive... the only gun doc in my area isn't available to fix my gun....

Im about ready to start giving up on this bloody sport!

If you've got the know-how to solder, that would be the quickest fix. Not necessarily soldering the wire to the motor, but the tab to the wire, and hooking it up like normal. If the tab is still mostly intact.

Like I said in one of the earlier posts, the tab is broken not just pulled out. To buy a new tab/connector requires a 4 hour drive and $50 worth of gas just to go to town.

The Saint June 10th, 2008 23:17

Why not buy a set online? Or ask someone not in the middle of nowhere you buy you a set and mail it to you?

Styrak June 10th, 2008 23:17

If it's broken off you can still solder it back on. If it's completely mangled then no.

without anything to solder with it would be pretty hard. My solder gun bit the dust a couple months back....

Ronan June 10th, 2008 23:33

I'm sure someone likely has a solder in Likely:D

Nova316 June 10th, 2008 23:43

I can mail you a wire with a connector on it if u want, so u just need to remove yours, twist and tape it on then it'd work for the time being haha

Drache June 10th, 2008 23:53

Ive got someone who is shipping me two connectors, solder, and soldering gun! Im glad there is still good people in this world!

I swear to get this damn thing going again!

Drache June 13th, 2008 16:40

Took some work but thanks to a fellow member sending me the parts I need I now have it back up and shooting fine (although it sounds louder to me)

I swear working on real guns is never this hard lol!

MasterGoa June 13th, 2008 21:15

Hey, I hear you... Next time I have to open the mech box, a total rewire will be needed...

Regular guns are fine, just watch for cracks ;)

Drache June 13th, 2008 21:21

yeah I still refuse to even open my mechbox lol, wiring is bad enough but springs and gears dont like me....

MasterGoa June 13th, 2008 21:30

It is not that bad...

If you guns and engines, mechboxes are easy to understand.

The funny thing is there is only 3 wires..

Motor ground to battery ground, mottor to trigger and trigger
to battery.

I actually hard wired my motor cause the connectors broke just like you..

I guess you have to adapt!

Cheers!

MG

Drache June 13th, 2008 21:37

well lets just say last time I opened a mechbox it didn't go so well lol.
