PTW: Troy Industries Special Purpose Carbine - 14.5"
This will quite possibly the laziest photoshoot and gun post I will ever create for one of my pieces, but I'm tired and I just want to get this out of the way so that I can build the REAL project behind this one...

Holy crap, Brian. I'm not going to ask you how much you sunk into it (I sort of just did), but that's a hot build.
That's the Prime lower too, isn't it? Who do I have to kill to get a few of those? |
hmm... I'd actually rather not know for myself (because I might cry), but I have a rough idea... and considering how I don't have to upgrade any of the internals, this is one of my "cheaper" builds on top of an OEM product. :P
It was mostly time that was put in to this project. |
You can always buy the Kanzen upgrade bearings. That should set you back about $30.
Who did you get that flip-to-side mount from? The Huang twist mount isn't doing it for me. |
Looks great! I'm curious what the real project behind this was.
Isn't that a little long for a CQB rifle (not taking anything away from your build)? And a 3x magnifier indoors? |
currently land arms makes a good replica of the side mount.
|
Brian, you're a freak. That is one sexy rifle.
I want those sights. |
wow, very unified looking rifle there man, good job, needs a flashlight though hehe

This build is more of a multi-purpose type build, good for close/medium/long range. The flip-to-side mount allows that level of maneuverability and the quick detach rebar cutter could hint at a door kicker role as well. The original offspring of this project is my "CQB" build - this 13.5" project was just an afterthought as the Troy rails are relatively inexpensive. For what you pay, you get a lot. I thought it might be fun to fiddle with something like this. |
That's one sick looking gun dude. Looks awesome. And yeah, I don't even want to know how much you put into it. It would probably bring a tear to my eye as well.
I don't know what it is about those Troy flash hiders, but I love them. I love that 'meat tenderizer' look. I have one (slightly different model) on my HK416 and I think that small addition makes the look of the gun. I look at pics of before and after, and it's amazing how something something so small and almost trivial can have such an impact on the overall look. But once again, incredible job on that gun dude. As they say, "You da man". |
The rail system itself is very well priced at just $285USD.
|
yet another Illusion masterpiece added to the spankbank.
|
Caution SPANKING IN PROGRESS!!!!!!
Awesome rifle Brian |
Alright I'm finished.........
Edit: If you can get a line on some of those FTS mounts I would be really interested! |
Holy shit, that's really nice!!! I can't beleive I missed this for the past 18 hours.
|
Very nice. I love the front-end and the mussle break.
|
I've had several guys ask me about the FTS mount, and each one of them shied away as soon as they heard the price. Just so I don't get more inquiries that don't go anywhere, the price is just a bit shy of $100 - it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Huang's twist mount may have been cheap, but you get what you pay for. The old adage is true: "buy cheap, buy twice."
As much as I would've liked to bring more in to sell, the price point isn't great and I wouldn't want to be stuck with several ~$100 mounts. |
I LOVE the meat-tenderizer flash-hider!
|
Urgh... I need that flip mount.
Great rifle! |
When I was in Vegas in April, I went to Citadel Gun and Safe (off the srtip behind Caesar's Palace) and they had the Larue flip mount for $150 U.S. (to go along with the 3x at $449 U.S.).
And basically you'd have to order one from the U.S. anyways, plus all the crap that goes along with that. I don't see $100 for a quality one to be an issue. If you had more of them, you'd have gotten a PM from me by now. Back to my original question though, who do I have to kill for some Prime lowers? And it's still a nice gun. :D :D :D |
Nice build Brian! :D
I know you're probably regretting showing us that FTS mount by now as it's painfully obvious that there's a rather large contigent of folks eagerly wanting precisely the same thing, mostly due to the fit/tolerance issues of the twist-off mounts commonly bundled with the replica AP 3x. Luckily mine is pretty solid for the most part but now that we know a decent quality FTS mount is out there, well, I will add my voice to the growing din of people clamoring for such a mount. And for about $100 USD, that's not too much providing the quality and durability are there of course. Brian, do you know if Bomber themselves or any dealers are selling these internationally, or must we jump on the next AC flight to HK? Having trouble finding their website for info... On another note, do you have any opinions as to which 3x mag appears to be better both in terms of optics quality, eye relief, and alignment behind and use with an EO5xx series HWS? I currently have a replica AP 3x which is quite satisfactory, all things considered, but seems to be slightly below the vertical centre of the EO551 when mounted on the twist-off adapter. So I was wondering if the replica EO 3x you have is any better in eye relief, quality or alignment when mouted on the FTS, and have you tried an AP 3x using the same? Cheers! 'Fly |

Specifically, I am using Huang's (www.dragonredairsoft.com) 3x EOTech magnifier. I previously had the replica AP 3x mag that I got from elsewhere in Hong Kong, simply branded as "China made Aimpoint magnifier" and the build quality, features and twist mount were exactly the same as Huang's. The sighting height of both units were exactly the same, and the sizes of both are essentially the same, so switching to the EOTech unit will do nothing to raise your sight level. I only switched to the EOTech replica because... well... I'm using EOTechs. If you still like your twist mount and would like to raise your sight level, you don't have to spend $100 to get the FTS - there are replica A.R.M.S. #17DR quick release (throw lever) mounts that raise your sight to the perfect height (better than the flip mount, in my opinion.) They're also about 1/3rd of the price of the flip mount. If you get age verified, you can access some in my sales thread. Anyways, the FTS does raise the sight to a good height, but despite my EOTech being zeroed, it appears on the bottom-left quadrant of the magnifier. |
Any opinions on painting the upper receiver tan to match? :D
|
1) You are a GOD.
2) I wouldn't paint it, I think its fine just the way it is. |
Quote:
Don't paint! |
Dude! That looks badass!!
|
|
thats a cool optic.....what is it?
|
Elcan SpecterDR. A far cry from their usual fugly (in the eyes of most) C79/M145's eh?
|
Is that the genuine Spectre-DR someone was advertising (can't remember if it was here or on CGN) a little while ago? Supposedly in perfect condition save the normal wear-n-tear from use in the sandbox, but oh so very über-expensive?? If it is then I am insanely envious of you...again! :D
'Fly |
I love how it looks so mechanical and steam-punk like....lol
BTW, good place to ask, how close is the color of the Magpul ladder rail cover to the FDE of their parts? |
Wow, just cost of the optics alone.....
|
So, Brian, you need to get to work with that beauty now.

It has a multitude of functions that make it quite possibly one of the most bad ass optics that I've ever used. In less than 1 second, a quick flip of a lever will change the view from 1x to 4x (time to toss out those flip to side mounts... hey, anybody want to buy a replica Eotech 3x magnifier? lol). Carl Zeiss glass is part of what makes this optic worth it, having quite possibly the clearest, brightest and sharpest picture quality I've ever used on firearm optics, real or replica. This glass literally puts to shame ALL airsoft replicas I've ever used. You really have to see this to believe it. The entire crosshair reticle can be electronically lit up, or a single 1.5MOA dot can be activated for RDS mode where the crosshair reticle is not useful. If caught in 4x mode and you have an immediate need to engage at close range, the mounted Doctersight can provide a fast response, or if all else fails, iron sights are also mounted. These iron sights can be adjusted to three different positions, 11:00, 12:00 or 1:00 positions. 12:00 (center) is the standard position, while 1:00 and 11:00 are reserved for shooters using a MRD (Mini Red Dot / Doctor Sight). Combat Modes: CQB: 1X with Red Dot "Both-Eyes-Opn" Long Range: 4X with ballistic drop reticle Machine Gun: 4X with Red Dot and ranging mount Iron Sight: (Heavy Rain and Emergency Defence) |
Damn brian how much was that optic?

This one is his own personal unit. It's banged up from use in the sandbox. A unique marking that stands out is the laser etched "FP" on the side, which was for the group the seller was tasked to: "Force Protection." |

Wow.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Lucky you. |
any pics of the reticle?
|
The Elcan DR is amazing...and with a doc sight to boot?! Would you mind stating the price ILLusion?
|
If I'm not wrong, it's about 2 K since there is one on sale like a few week ago. Maybe it's one that it's on sale.

The Doctersight I purchased a couple of years ago and had been using it mostly on my pistols. It cost about $480 with Weaver mount base at the time - but if you can even find them nowadays, it would easily cost over $650 without a mount base. I heard Germany had stopped export to the US for some reason or another. |
that is one versatile combat sight. i like it!
|
I wonder what it was look like with an FDE UBR. :D
|
Wow. You've made a sexy rifle an even more sexy rifle :p
