Custom Kraken build (work log and of course pictures)

So I have decied to veture out side of my knomal set of gun's (armalights) and start to build up an amoury with diffrent types of gun's. so here's my first of hopefully many coustom builds done by myself.

For starter's i have bought my self a kraken ak47. and will compleatly(well allmost) gut it. Im planing on keeping the gears, thats about it. Unless some one can state outher wise why i should ditch the stock gear set and get a new one.. pitures will follow. please leave comments and feedback and if you have any pointers please tell me what worked for you this is my first ak and havent had that much exprence working on them so any imput is helpfull.

Here's the list of what im putting into it and on it.
EXTERNAL
Cyma ak47 metal body and front end 90 dollors
Dark wood kit (undeced of brand)
element AK74 Flash Hider-12.50
total 103 shipped cad.

INTERNALS

GRAND TOTAL SO FAR 355.56

This should be in the modifications section. IMO I wouldn't waste money on a cylinder set nor the AR latch, nor the Sorbo. If you plan to go 450fps+ then a Sorbo is nice, but otherwise I don't really see the point much. Be careful with the Prowin. Some users report fitting/airseal issues. I'd stick to the KA unit instead.

Which brand steel rear sight, outer barrel set, and front sight do you plan to get, and why? Why replace something that ain't broken? Just curious.

jesster202 August 24th, 2008 22:12

lol metal i have a thing for metal and i havent decied on the brand for the metal front sight i dont know who makes them. im going to ka then i still havent finlized my parts. as for the ar latch its 10 bucks and sorbo pad though it made stuff quieter what do you suggest for the cyclender head then modfiy systema.

Dusti69 August 24th, 2008 22:15

ehobby has a nice looking cylinder head with two air seal rings on it made by guarder i think

pawscal August 24th, 2008 22:26

I would recomend the modify ARL I usualy put one on everything I own, its great.

Amos August 24th, 2008 22:44

Get a modify full tune kit.

Easiest thing you can do -- + all the parts are made to work with each other so it reduces the risk of tolerance errors.

jesster202 August 24th, 2008 22:53

UPDATE didnt think this needed a bump so i just edited my post all the mechbox parts arived good orderd thanks jugglez for hookin a brother up so fast only 2 days to ship awesome. now still waitting on the metal body and the gun. oh yeah i whent to crappy tire and picked up some silcone gel thanks colt for the information. now all i have to do is get the rest in and pimp it out.

From what people have told me this is the cheepest way to make shure your gun will work with out a problem and im using all modify parts expect the gears which i will keep stock. So in all this will be a gun first dive in to the v3 mech for me here comes mechbox.com for me!!!

cloves August 28th, 2008 12:46

a friend of mine tried to drop a new modify cylinder into a Kraken mechbox and couldn't get it to fit. I'm guessing he's gonna have to "modify" to install the modify.....har!

byblos August 28th, 2008 13:11

its true, the doc couldnt get the spring to sit in the piston, couldnt get the cylinder head to fit in the poles of each shell. i got the cylinder set for the V3 mechbox AK. nothing worked

Amos August 28th, 2008 13:14

Looks like Krakens have reduced their production quality! Whooo

byblos August 28th, 2008 13:23

im thinking if i make the hole bigger on the cyl. head or make the poles smaller on the mechbox i can fit the cyl head... and maybe shaving down the teeth in the cylinder will allow the spring to reach the end (its getting stuck like 3/4 way in)

jesster202 August 30th, 2008 11:26

im buying an older one off the sales thread. it shouldnt have this problem as its allredy been opened and had some preventaive mantince im only opning it up and going to moddd the shit out of it to make it kick ass lol. im just uploading pictures of the sick metal body and front end i just got 2 days ago and all the parts now just waitting on the ak and to drag my sorry ass to crappy tire to ger lube.

What amazes me is how you guys get metal parts into Canada. I mean aren't metal bodies illegal?

Most metal parts aren't illegal, only receivers.

And usually they aren't bringing metal receivers into Canada, they're buying some that were already here.

i mean i dont live up there but if you guys can get aeg's in canada when theyre next to illegal then it doesnt take much thinking to figure out that the metal bodies are sold in country too

I'm so confused...

Airsoft and other restricted parts can be brought into canada if you have the proper business licensing and importation licenses.

I concur with Pascal, the Modify AR latch is terrific. However, I'd advise that you use the Modify gear set as well. Not only are they good gears, but it makes putting your mechbox back together much easier.

A Prowin hop-up is nice to have, but fiddily. I finally got mine to fit an AEG after having it lay around for a year or so. Definatly stick with a KA unit.
